Planning permission for the south stand

That would be an incredibly well read and eloquent bag lady with a sky-high intelligence quotient and an unequalled vocabulary, wouldn't it? I'd like to meet her. Her shouts are probably well worth some attention.

She certainly won't be working as a boat repairer (worthy labour though it is), I trust.

Bless. 'Boat repairer'. If only you knew. Mind you, just cognitive understanding is a vast struggle for you, isn't it chuck?

Most bag ladies yelling at traffic are prone to non-sequitur outpourings of rage, bile and abuse, usually at passing drivers, safe in their vehicles with the stereo on. You can see their lips moving, but you can't hear the sounds.

See the alignment here?

Off you trot. Again. No mention of your 'figures' to reinforce your unbelievable bladeyness, huh?

pommpey

Whereas you are the doyen of rationality, at all times. I mean, you provide proof with each bizarre outburst representing your odd stream of consciousness. You're the forum's equivalent of a bag lady who shouts at traffic.

I honestly don't think that's true. The amount of money in the Premier means that one good player costs the same as a shiny new stand. The trick is to maintain the focus of a club that is attempting to grow its infrastructure and improve its playing performance at the same time. If Spurs manage to hold onto the Champions League places whilst rebuilding their stadium they'll have achieved something pretty special.
A little bit Arsenalesque in my humble opinion.

interesting little article on the OS

So it's not actually happening, but what they've done is got their builder lads to draw a pretty picture and then they've written a vague article about it.

About right?

Also, doubling the size of the superstore? Is that really necessary?

I don't think the posts are going anywhere soon. That's just confirmation that we still have permission to renovate the kop and add extra seats if it's a good idea to do so.

Not keen on the idea of altering the facade of the South Stand. Kind of like the crummy, brutalist look it's got at the moment.

It on the back burner until we've finished paying for the Desso. So ten, fifteen years away....

What's actually happened is that their architects have produced a CGI as part of the planning application they've just submitted.

"Bramall Lane / Cherry Street Residential - WCEC is appraising the viability for an eight-storey residential development in two blocks on the Bramall Lane / Cherry Street corner adjacent to the Copthorne Hotel."

Hasn't someone already appraised the viability of that and built them??

The Superstore is to become a Hypa, Mega, Superstore in preparation for when we hit the Prem :)

PS Superstore...............meh! Been in once in about 12 months for a Bobble hat and the fkers had sold out :(

Sounds like the south stand extension plans have been scrapped with this announcement then. Kop still on though

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Imagine being back in the Prem and selling out every week (I know, I know......) there'd be plenty of people asking why we didn't invest in the off-field infrastructure when we had the opportunity. This seems like sensible forward planning to me.

Last bit of the article:

"South Stand - Clean and improve the façade, creating a matching look with the hotel and a clearer identity to the component parts of the stand."

Says to me the club won't be extending the South Stand but its getting a new front to match the hotel. Just when brutalist concrete angles were coming back into fashion...

Reminds me of watching alepo on the news

Did you buy your half and half scarf though?

Our lass has just heard me mention extension and got really excited.:)

Yeah and with this development I doubt there would be the space required for a future expansion to Bramall Lane. Let's hope we never get success and fill out 36k every week or we'll be off to a soulless bowl in Handsworth

Who knew John Street was a conservation area?

That Kop corner is a mess so providing it doesn't starve any football funds it will enhance commercial opportunities.

Doubt it's coming any time soon.

All sounds pretty positive to me

Boundary Corner - a four storey largely residential building which will feature an impressive ground floor new Club retail outlet.

<< Apartments + Superstore >>

Chaucer's Yard (Countess Road) - formerly a cutlery casting workshop and is Grade II listed in part. The site is located immediately off John Street and Countess Road and is situated within the John Street Conservation Area. Pre-application discussions have begun with the local authority, assessing the feasibility of new residential and commercial space alongside a refurbished Chaucer Yard development.

<< Apartments + Shops >>

Bramall Lane / Cherry Street Residential - WCEC is appraising the viability for an eight-storey residential development in two blocks on the Bramall Lane / Cherry Street corner adjacent to the Copthorne Hotel.

<< Apartments >>

Kop Extension / Business Centre (Kop to South Stand Corner) - Planning permission has been retained for a 3,200-seat extension at the back of the existing Kop, including a new roof and over trusses to allow the four existing roof support columns to be removed and the introduction of a new concourse with improved facilities.

<< More Seats + Better View + Improved Facilities >>

As part of this scheme permission was also granted for a new Business Enterprise Centre on stilts in the Kop/South Stand corner, allowing entry/exit routes to/from the Kop and South Stand to remain.

<< Business Centre>>

John Street / Shoreham Street residential - Planning permission has been retained and obtained for a three and four storey residential development consisting of 52 apartments on the corner of John Street / Shoreham Street.

<< Apartments >>

John Street Corner Stand Executive Boxes - Assessments are ongoing for a concept proposal to create additional executive boxes at high level at the back of the corner stand. Detailed costings will determine if the project is viable.

<< Executive Boxes >>

South Stand - Clean and improve the façade, creating a matching look with the hotel and a clearer identity to the component parts of the stand.

<< Improved Façade >>

The only development that will benefit most fans in any way is the Kop Extension and improvements.
As a fan, I can't really get excited about the prospect of Apartments and Shops and Business Centres being built on every spare scrap of land owned by the Club.
How will this effect any future developments of the actual "Football Stadium"?
Nobody's suggesting we need to or should expand the stadium yet but you would hope that any long-term plans might include an increase in capacity of more than 3200.
