Questionable source (to say the least) but they claim to be Man United ITK. That aside would you take him? I don't think he's good enough but could be decent cover for RCB however i'd expect his wage demands to be daft.

Objectively he's a top talent, who achieved a whole lot more than e.g. Ravel in his career. He's looked ropey and injury prone for Man Utd for some time, but with strong spells now and then. Personally think he could be made into an incredible RCB option by Wilder and Knill. Could also play CB or DM in our system. However... I can't imagine he's going to take a £100k (or more) paycut anyway.

If he wants 1st team football he will have to take a big cut in his wages.
Cant see many premiership clubs paying him anything like that .
His fitness issues have dogged him for sometime ,if we take a punt on him he will have to fall in line with our pay structure.
Made millions without giving that much back
We have a Sunderland cast off who was in a similar position! ! He's finding it difficult to get going again.
I would take him if he proved his fitness and his wages wernt a burden.

Jones is a strange one. He gets pretty much ridiculed by all which I can't help but feel is in part down to the various facial memes of him flying around.

There's definitely a player in there somewhere. No one plays so many times for Man U and England under a succession of different managers without being a decent player but is he too far past his best to be worth the risk?

I'm not sure.

Gutted. I actually do think he’s shite - I just fancied being an edgy maverick.
Sorry, I wasn’t suggesting that you were trying to be, although I can see that’s how it comes across. I just meant that some common wisdom is clearly wrong - no matter how many albums they’ve sold, Coldplay are still shite - but sometimes a lot of people think the same thing because it’s objectively true. Viz Phil Jones being fucking gash.

I’d be quite pleased with him on a free.
In a back 3, I think he’d look good IF he can stay fit.

It sounds like what you’re trying to say is all your opinions are facts.

These type of signings always get tagged with the "he's shite" and I don't know why. There is a clear difference between playing for Manchester United and Sheffield United. Manchester United are expected to win titles, cups, etc.. we're not.

Danny Ings, total flop at Liverpool, moved to Southampton, 2nd top scorer this season.

Phil Jones would probably be a great signing for us at this moment in time.

Danny Ings wasn't a total flop at Liverpool, he was a total crock. Cruciate injury and then knee surgery and the slow recovery ruled him out for most of his time there.

Everyone knows he's good though, he's shown it.

Phil Jones gets shown up constantly, the expectations may be different, but the teams are the same. It's not like he just gets shown up against your Barcelona's of the world, it's also the teams we'll be playing against too.

I don't see how a different bit of polyester to wear significantly affects the likelihood of shitting the bed against fellow Premier League teams.

I trust Wilder/Knoll/Mitchell in terms of their judgement.

But even that has it's limits. It can't be based on blind faith.

If Chris swapped out our squad for Wednesday's I wouldn't be sat there saying "in Wilder we trust" and "I'm sure he knows what he's doing"

I just don't see this on Monday levels - wages, injury record, current actual ability.

If he leaves Man U, it's the sort of move that has West Ham written all over it. Even more so with Moyes as manager.

Ings wasn't a flop at Liverpool, a serious injury was the problem.

He’s your classic squad utility player, the problem for him is when he is used it normally to cover a world class one. A no from me in terms of first team starter but him being used for cover wouldn’t be too bad.

Feels to me like a Wilder kind of signing. A younger Jags/Stearman/Cranie type.

Our back three is superb and what we need is very good cover. A young up and coming player ro develop and an experienced one to slot in so maybe he'd be cover for Egan and Jags transitions more into a coaching role.

Also remember he played as a defensive midfielder for a period too and might be useful there.

On the right kind of contract I wouldn't be against this and if CWAK work their magic we could have a very decent player on our hands.

If he wasn't in the spotlight of playing for Man U and England then half of us on here probably wouldn't know enough about him to form much of an opinion on him. He's clearly not shite, not being good enough for Man U doesn't make you shite.

To me he just needs a move to get his career going in the right direction again, which probably won't be us due to his wages being too high.
