Just what is the exact point of the transfer window for permanent signings closing earlier than the loan window, where you're allowed to agree to buy the player in the next window?

Lots have been asking the question but I haven't actually seen a proper answer regarding it yet so I am posting a new thread about it in the hope that someone knows.

It's fucking bonkers. Why not just keep the permanent transfer window open until the end of August, like normal or just end the window altogether?

The deadline is basically for PL clubs only, cant believe they voted for it this year. Bizarre.

I think the theory was to bring the PL and Football League deadlines into sync.

They then added a loan to buy window which immediately put them out of sync again.

So, English clubs are still allowed to sell their players to foreign teams - prem teams aren't allowed to sign anyone, EFL clubs are allowed to loan players to buy them next window

What the hell is going on????????

I wonder how many of the dickhead managers who voted for this change are regretting it now?

Couldn't be having to manage the team AND deal with transfers for 3 weeks could they? Bless them.

Well, look what's happened. Every one of them is still going to be busy in the market until the end of August anyway.

I think the jist is, yesterday was not - and never was - a transfer deadline day in any sense of the definition unless your motive is to:

a) sell players for more than they're worth
b) sell papers or drive traffic to your websites
c) moan that your club hasn't signed anyone

In reality, yesterday is better defined to us as the opening of the premier league reserve player window.

There is no discernible difference and I don't let it get me roled. If anything, it's a blessing. It means we get Jim White's yellow tie day over and done with, what a farce that's become and the little scrotes with their dildos outside the training ground can fuck off back inside.

As for the clubs, try before you buy in Jan. Bob on.

No need for a deadline at all, but there should be a limit on the number of players a club can have on their books.

Yesterdays deadline was just for PL clubs.
For EFL teams it’s not really a deadline, as loans to buy are allowed until the end of the month.

If a club can afford it then there’s no limit amount of players on the books.
However if a club is overspending, the EFL put that club under an embargo.

If a club is under an embargo then there’s is a limit to the amount of players they can have.
That explains why Birmingham have been given permission to bring in 5 loanees due to their squad being so small.

Whereas Wednesday are under an embargo but have a large squad, so aren’t even allowed to bring in loanees.
