Osula and Jebbison

Ahhhh I see we are judging players off 20 minutes when they have just come back off an injury again

His job for the last 15 minutes was to run his socks off, gain possession whenever he could, win free kicks and generally make a nuisance of himself.
He failed in all these things.
Not in the match I have just watched. Admittedly he was not outstanding, but he did what he had to do in the context of that match, pretty well

A thread slagging RND off last season.
The same poster started one slagging McAtee off.
It seems that our scapegoats are getting even younger.

I thought he started really well. Then we went down 10 and was the lone striker, he started that role ok. But was constantly getting manhandled by defenders and got nothing from referee. Then his head went down.

Don't think we can take much from this performance either way because of the red card

Which game were you at today, obviously not the one at Bramall Lane

Indeed I was. I said he wasn’t great but he did some good stuff often against two or three defenders.
What were you expecting him to do on his first match back with balls fired at him from panicking defenders ?

Did as much as could have been expected of him really, might have looked after the ball a bit better when he won it a couple of times but he’s not Ndiaye so I won’t judge him by his world class standards 🤣

It’s called an opinion, expressed on a forum…
And I’m 45, and haven’t chipped in on Jebbo, yet. He wasn’t great though, was he?

I’ve also commented favourably, when merited on RND & McAtee, because… it’s a forum.

What is your obsession / peculiar thin skin on being unable to absorb any form of criticism aimed at younger players?

Maybe Jebbo will make the grade, maybe he won’t. Touch wood he does. But you can’t seriously take issue with anyone suggesting he was gash when he came on today.

At 19 Brian Deane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin hadn't done much more than scoring a few third division goals. It is far too soon to write strikers off at that age.

I think it was the right decision to put him on today. We need to know if he can be an option if McBurnie is going to be out injured for a while. The sending off ruined things and it wasn't a good game to assess him in.

In the summer he showed that he could struggle in one match, then look really good in the next. I hope we'll see a bit more of him in the next couple of weeks.

Ive no doubt he is going to be a top player hes just not what we need now

He'd benefit from heading back on loan. That's not writing him off but there are some good points raised above.

He did almost seem to skip the U23 learning curve and go straight into the first team.

He is coming back from injury and I'm not sure little cameos are really going to bring him on, though you could argue that is how McAtee started and he's started to show more confidence and his ability come through.

Brewster's injury was a real poor timing for him. A full season at Burton under Hasselbank and possibly notching 20 goals would have been a real confidence booster.

Hecky has shown an ability to bring on young players and each player is different but I'd like to see him build up his experience and I'm not sure 10 mins here or there will allow that.

Yesterday was difficult. When we went down to 10 men his remit completely changed. The ball didn't really stick to him. He's 6'5" but hasn't quite the strength to go with his frame yet. Once he fills out a bit he'll be a different proposition.

He could with being out on loan for the whole season. The same with Osula. Maybe next season too. United need to bring a senior forward in during the January window. I'd keep him for the Millwall Cup game then let him out providing the club find the money for the loan striker. His performance yesterday is to be expected: rusty, getting used to the speed and physicality of the game. Ask me to reassess when he's played five or six on the bounce (won't happen this season). Despite his size he's still a baby at this level.

Jebbo - At the stage now we're 10 minutes here and there won't really help. He needs regular starts in order to develop. He's unlikely to get those minutes here unless we get an injury. If we don't bring in a striker in loan then he will stay. I would look to bring in an experienced striker on loan and let Jebbo go out on loan (Burton again?)

Osula - strange one with Derby. He was never going to be getting regular minutes there for a team going for promotion. Unless the purpose of the loan was to expose him to those kind of pressures. I would recall him in Jan and then look to place him with a team that will give him minutes.

I thought Jebbison looked poor and all at sea yesterday but I’m not unduly worried. Shortly after he came on we down to 10 and effectively he was tasked with winning the ball and holding it up which isn’t part of his game.

He’s still young, coming back from a long term injury and very very raw. I also think he is one of those players who is a lot better than he look as he looks tall and gangly and gives off the impression he isn’t particularly skilful, a trait shared with Brian Deane

He won’t be the first up and coming youngster to have a disappointing 15 cameo when we are two goals up and he won’t be the last. It’s obvious Hecky has seen a genuine player in there and is managing his development

due to most of the balls being played up the touchline and going out, or being played to somewhere in the next postcode to where he was. he tried to make a nuisance of himself but being double teamed didn't help him. Go a bit easy on the lad he's got to get game time.

If we're serious about promotion, funds must be found for a decent loan striker.

Who would you suggest, too bigger risk to take a prem fringe striker as we need them to bang the goals in from day one, not find their feet for 6-8 weeks??

I'm sorry, but slagging Jebbo at this stage is just fucking stupid, he's a young lad trying to make his way in football.
OK, I think he needs a season long loan in league one, but we don't currently have the option of that, but, he is training with the likes of Billy and Mcburnie and that can only be good for the lad can't it!?
When we sold DCL, he had hardly done anything in a Blades shirt, and he took to the prem like a duck to water!, give Jebbison a chance, ok he's not a starter, but keep building up his cameos and let's she how he does.
And on the plus side, Osula seems to be having a decent season at Derby, learning from Mcgoldrick. What we need to be doing now, is looking for a prem quality striker, not to buy now, unless we get a takeover sorted and get funds, but, so we have targets come the end of the season, if we do go up that is!!🤞

I thought Jebbo did ok yesterday in a difficult game to come into. He ran about and made things harder for the defenders, but like others have said I expected him to get hold of the ball… just a little bit. He was better without the ball as he never really got the ball and kept it… so can’t judge him on that yesterday

I’ve never seen anything in a Blades shirt to suggest he’s good enough for this level. At Burton, maybe that was his level

He’s not kicked on and should’ve stayed at Burton instead of being recalled.

Get him out on loan again if we can and recall Osula

I don't think that "supporters" slagging off our teenage prospects is beneficial.
He really is in need of another loan which I think he will get In the window.
Osula will be back a straight swop! Can't see him going to Derby though he's very nieve and doesn't know how to use his height pace and power he needs game time and he wont get much with us if we are going to kick on and finish the job.

Same match as me, where Jebbo did what he had to do as a young one man band up front.
A good outlet to ease the pressure for a bit, often tyimg a couple of their players up.

What do sme of our fans want and expect??

We don't know what Osula would do in that situation either though.

They both need experience of men football week in week out. It’s just a question or patience, and that’s fans, managers and players.
For me they’re both at least a full season away from what we want in the first team if not 2, so as long as they’re not of the opinion that they should be starting, get them playing at a level where they can thrive. If that means L2 then so be it. Keep them on longer term contracts and go out and score lots of goals and enjoy yourselves. They’re still very much kids in mens football and both have so much to learn, but they have loads of time, if they have the patience.
