Took my wife tonight as she doesn't get to many games these days. She spent the whole game with a tissue over her nose complaining about the smell of unwashed sweat. I just complained about how shit we were!

30 years on I've still not seen her again.

The did for the game against fener a few years ago. Was a great atmosphere with the south stand and kop full (until the Turks tried to burn the bramall lane stand down)

I will not sit on the John Street Stand unless I absolutely have to (or if I take my daughter). And even then it would be kicking and screaming. The South is better, but I'm a kop man. I bought tickets for last night but chose not to go. Wanted the points.

Ricky is right, closing the kop makes it seem like less of a competitive game. I don't think Man U close sections off when they play early cup games.

The only way to deal properly with this issue is to have an olfaction steward on each South Stand turnstile, with responsibility for sniffing each blade entering the ground.

If they gag, you are sent to the kop. Simple as that. Let’s get rid of this scourge and pack the kop for cup games with the great unwashed. Win-win.

I agree too, open the kop for the early cup games so people can sit in their usual seats and have a beer in their usual spot at half time. People on the kop wouldn't have been blinded by the floodlights either. Even with the BLLT and Westfield closed, it would have felt more like a competitive game with the kop open, and the additional cost of doing so isn't going to bankrupt us.

I remember back in the 80's we were, like many similar sized clubs getting crowds of not much more than 10k but the kop was never closed to save money despite us being skint back then.

Its not only about costs. The kop can improve the atmosphere and with it the team's performance. Imagine if we had been attacking an empty kop end on Saturday.

I know tickets were cheap, but we could have made them even cheaper (say a tenner) and offered deals to schools and the two unis that would have gone a long way to filling the ground.

In this high-tech age it is very easy to canvass supporters' opinions. We must have many tens of thousands of email addeesses on the database. Not difficult to sound out opinion from the fans in situations like this

Slightly cheaper tickets on the Kop would inevitably bring in additional attendees for a start.

There's the 'open it and they will come' principle too. It would send a more positive message and invite and oblige more to attend.

I also wonder if there are some South Stand gentlemen who refuse to attend these games on the basis of Kop creatures invading their territory.

As I said, it certainly wouldn't bring a lower attendance would it. Only a bigger one.

Imagine if we had been attacking an empty kop end on Saturday.

Those who think there's no difference don't understand the basics, despite presumably football supporting for years.
