John Docherty, Ronnie Simpson and Doc Pace.

John took Allchurch's position early in the season but in October he was replaced by Woodward who went on to play more than 550 1st team games for us.

Ronnie played only two more league matches for us before moving to Carlisle.

Doc played only 3 more league matches for us before an abdomen injury ruled him out for months and Alan Birchenall took his place. When Doc was fit again to play he was transferred to Notts County

I struggled to give you a ‘like’ for that. The photos of Coldwell and Joe Shaw bring back great memories, but showing Des Thompson in action is cruel. He had been a decent reserve keeper over the years, but to bring him back from non-league football to replace Hodgy when we were top of the League and just might have been on the road to achieving something special, that was the stuff of nightmares. It cured me of ever believing that United will win a major trophy. Which in the long run, has probably been good for my sanity!

I think I've actually got one right 😁
(I only remember because I was at Oxford game when Hope and Ford made their debuts

In January 1971, Newcastle United swapped John and forward David Ford for Sheffield United's John Tudor.

In the 1960s the board did try to persuade Harris to sign more players but Harris preferred to rely on the youth policy. Some criticised his policy at the 1965 shareholders meeting
