I never heard Punton referred to as the ‘Flying Pig’ but it was used for Paddy Buckley .

Top banter with Ron Barton in the Horns who was a Wendy.
His son Ron Barton Jnr has still got a season ticket in the Jolly Farmer.
Thanks for the Ron Barton, was trying to think of the name when someone mentioned The Horns. What a great bloke despite his footballing affiliation.
My connection was through an uncle who had been mates with Ron, RAF, during the war. Forgotten the details but their connection must have been, Lossiemouth or North Africa, maybe even both by the way they reacted when together.
Remember the Sunday after Everton beat Wendy in '66 FACF. Walked into the Horns and Ron had tied a black velvet ribbon on a circular post horn, which I think was above the fireplace. Nice touch from a nice bloke.

Gil Reece was probably the first signing I can recall we ever made. We never were a signing club so to me it was big news. We seemed to rely on the constant stream of youngsters unearthed by Archie Clark.

A few years later things changed - Hemsley, Hope, Flynn, Powell, Colquhoun, Hockey, Dearden all arrived to form that promotion winning team.

Pubs in the Dronfield area - used to cross over the border from last orders in the Jordanthorpe to take the last orders in the Chequers.

Many a night in the Hearts of Oak with the proper landlord / landlady company of Fred and Joan. Horns Inn, Miners, Green Dragon, Blue Stoops, Talbot.

A misspent youth.
Not misspent mate, sounds like you had a good time!

Anyone remember when or who where the 3 signings we made on the same day, think David Ford was one? cannot think of other 2 possibly Trevor Hockey? . Remember think at the time; United don't do 3 signings; ever.

I think it was David Ford and John Hope came from Newc. and John Tudor went up there. part ex. and we got Hockey from B'ham.? 1970-71 season

No, I was too young to attend midweek matches (I was 6 then). Started going regularly from January 1970. I remember years later my dad telling me about the Fulham match. We were 2 up with half hour later left. Wendy fans in BLUT cheering for Fulham
