Gold Label was a fifties product created by Tennants before they sold out to Whitbread. Other barley wines existed but were dark in colour.

Both Bass and Whitbread brewed bottled Guinness under licence. Like Whitbread and Stones bitter, they had a different taste. Bass Guinness was slightly more bitter, and was the choice in our family as Sunday dinner time sessions started with a bottle or two. The label designs, tops etc were the same, the only difference being the brewery address at the bottom.

These foresaken days, Guinness West Indies Porter is the mainstay for me.
I really like the Dublin Porter but haven’t seen it for a while - was a mainstay in T’Asdoh and the local offy.

Like this picture, it shows a split second in a game, nothing particular happening, but about too. Balls loose with any number of options available. If you've played football at any level, I'm sure you'll recognise the feeling.
I have no information on the photo except,'63 'ish and what's seen, sure members will fill in much info. all I can see is Forest V Wolves or could it forest-v-wolves-63ish-3-copy.jpgbe Wolves V Forest?

I’d say the City Ground, Ron Flowers the Wolves player, (not number 5)

Wolves number 5 is David Woodfield. Think the Forest player on the right might be Colin Addison?

Yes he was but moved to Newcastle during the 1963-64 season so I think the above photo was in Sept 1963 so it is likely he played in the match. His debut for Newcastle was in Nov 1963
Given the photos show Wolves defenders could one of the Forest forwards be the unfortunately named Dick Le Flem !!

During the '50's my grandfather, my Blades mentor from birth, holidayed in Boscombe end of August time, often missing seasons starts at Lane.
So as to get his football fix would go to watch B&B Athletic. He always told me of these trips so I have a soft spot for B&B Athletic.
Sadly Boscombe is now well known as the place to get drugs or your leg over. There are attempts to clean the place up but it will take some time I fear.

Had to google to find out what he looked like. You think it might be Le Flem not Addison on the right?
It could well be, judging by the goalposts in the distance, play looks to be central in the Wolves "D" I believe he was a left winger, and originated from the Channel Isles

I think it’s Johnny Quigley on the left
Quigley played this match, which I recon was 1963-64 due to Wolves kit, with Forests falling in the same time bracket.
Wonder if he was any relation to Eddie Quigley ex Owls and PNE, photo to follow below. Thought he had a cap or two but no, but was sold to PNE for a British record fee of £26500, bloody Eric Taylor certainly made the till bell ring in those times.
Interesting point whilst researching the kits was that between 1883 and 1891, being founded1877, Wolves played in Red/White stripes, black knickers.

Mi grandad had his pipe and Condor rough cut plus his holiday supply of Three Castles so selling him drugs would be a waist of time. ;)
As for the girls of the night mi grandma would'a rolled her sleeves up and sorted them out one way or another. She didn't work in Norfolk & Castle Markets for nowt. ☺️
Seriously, what a shame, holidayed there also, was'54ish, stayed across road from Queens Park Golf Course. I found it boring at that age, Bournemouth just 'pits' full of old folk, just like me now.😱
We beached at Sandbanks daily, great beach in view of Pool harbour ferry, trips round Brownsea, bit private those times, no one allowed on, then have a look at the Sunderland's which were still stationed there at that time.
Remember grandparents saying they saw the demise of the red squirrels from the Chines as they were pushed out by the greys over a period, post war to early '60's

Amazing what you find when you dig around in old pre-digital photo albums!

Recognise anybody, other than a younger me, from this Christmas time shot taken in the living room that Mrs BoSS the First and I had in a small 12-bed hotel we owned in Leeds in the early 80s?

No insults please, this is family ;)

A tech-savvy bloke could stitch these two images together. Hence why there are two photos. I remember at the time some nutter cock- up theorists claiming that the gap in the track bed was due to a measuring error or something similar.

Never seen these before, thanks.

The gap would be to allow expansion and contraction in hot or cold weather - surely they could work it out for themselves?

It was a made in leeds Tetley list. I’m surprised to see Jubilee stout on there, I used to like a bottle of that in the days when they made it.

Gold Label was Tennants, Sheffield.

Bert is correct as is I should coco

I worked in Lady's Bridge Brewery one summer in 1969 prior to heading for Leeds. Whitbread had recently taken over Tennants and there was much resentment amongst the staff.

Not only did they make Gold Label there, they also made Jubilee and Mackeson.

I had 3 wonderful months there and I'll never forget! ;)

RH side 100% Mark McGhee.
Absolutely no doubt at all. Reason for him being in a small hotel, in the early 80's, at Christmas, in Leeds while (probably) still being at Aberdeen are that obvious I feel I'd be insulting you all to point them out.

Im reading a book called Women of Steel ,about women factory workers during the war in Sheffield. Just wondering where the Sheffield Empire was ,am I right that its the building that Sexy Rexy was in ?

Sitwell, the Empire theatre was on the corner of Charles Street and Union Street.
One of my early memories, in fact my first ever visit to see a live performance, was at the Empire. Is was the Aladdin pantomime with, I think, Jimmy Clitheroe.
It was also the first time I'd ever seen and heard live music. Oddly, one thing I've never forgotten is hearing the sound of the live cymbal for the first time. It's strange the snippets you remember the most.Screenshot_20210223-185450_Samsung Internet.jpg

Was that where that indoor alleyway was from Pinstone St to Union St ? I think Sweeneys were in there but cant remember what it was called. What year did it go ,obviously not in the blitz if you went :)
