Spotted clues in the picture and I am sure the photo was taken in August 1956

What a cracking photo that is!. There are a couple of things which it reminds me of:
Firstly visiting Belle Vue zoo as a little lad and a ride on the elephant there.
Secondly, is that poster referring to THE Playhouse as was on Townhead Street? If so, I seem to remember going there in the sixties at least 🤔. So maybe it was just temporarily closing then. It's still a fabulous photo Silent. Thanks for sharing.

Yes. The Playhouse was open until well into the 1960s, if not the very early 1970s. It was temporarily closed in 1954 for a full refurbishment so this could tie in with the dates of the football matches in the posters (1956 as Silent says)

God!!! I was 14 and three months.
Memories. Travelled past there Mon. to Fri going home from school, 25, Beighton bus, so will have seen this scene minus the Morris Oxford, sure it is, think the Isis was two tone colouring, and the folk, presumably returning from holiday.
Recon the photo was taken on a Saturday afternoon, familiar sight in holiday season.
Wondering where the folk are walking to? They have gone past Harmer Lane for the bus station so are they going to Commercial St/Fitzalan Sq. for trams to East, West and North of the city.
Park Hill before demolition and the erection of the flats. Think I prefer it this way scenically, but realise it had come to an end in terms of sanitary human habitation.
Posters.
Belle Vue Zoo.
BELLE VUE ZOO - 1950's.jpgRemember these buggers, 1950's, two in, round, walled pool, with the skull of a third on view telling the story how one of the two live ones killed the skull one. They had been male, female and offspring, which was almost fully grown, until the homicide, who if memory serves was the adult male
Speedway, later, in the evening, Jack Parker and Belle Vue V Ukn. Eye opener, exciting, much closer to the riders than Owlerton, had to be carful on the bends as we found out at our peril, much to the amusement of the locals. We had allowed some but not enough and first heat, immediately retreated brushing shale off ourselves.Parker, Jack.jpg
Playhouse Theatre,
Wonderful Christmas season children's plays in the 50's.
First went through junior school, later years, family outings. We also saw the Empire pantos but I preferred the Playhouse ones. First one seen was based on "Wind in the Willows", no songs etc. and written for a family audiences and superbly acted, giving kids an appetite for the theatre as against the cinema.
Playhouse had a leading lady, Armine Sandford, fell in love with her, like you do, thought she was the bee's knees. Must have been an astute lady,Armine Sandford - actress Sheffield Playhouse 1950's.jpgmoved into TV announcing though she did act in the occasional TV play.
Always enjoyed going to the Playhouse nice theatre. It's origin I have no idea of.
Gunstones Bread, also advertised on the Trams and buses when SCTD decided to have adverts on the sides of their vehicles.
Hand painted they were, none of your stick on stuff like other cities had.
Fitzalan Sq - c1930.jpgBeforeFlat St 1950's.jpgAfter, and busHarmer Lane.jpgwhich brings us back to almost the same scene.

The Dandy Gunman of Idaho City, laid to rest next to barber who's shop he was in when he took the fateful shot.

Is this your 'epholump', This is either Mary or Phil apparently, hope that's not your mum up there.
Is the keeper being over familiar, would he be up for sexual harassment and child molestation to-day?

He ended up elsewhere next season... some of the older Blades might be able to tell us where ;)

What's happening here? Why is Trevor unhappy?
It was when we won 1-0 at Everton in August 1971. It looks like we were awarded a free kick and Trevor was in disagreement probably with a loudmouth opponent (could be Alan Ball of course!). I was on a family holiday that week and I was watching Ayr v Celtic match on that Saturday afternoon.

I don't suppose Ayr won? 😁

whenever I see a pic of Stan I always remember his mum. She worked on one of the news stand concessions on the old Pond Street when I used to have to switch buses at some god forsaken time of the day to get to work. I would go to her platform to buy my paper even though it wasn't the one I used for either bus. Was always happy to chat about what had happened the previous game and was a genuinely nice woman that didn't have a bad word about anyone except Don Goodman. I don't remember the incident but he must have either done Stan or someone else and she was not at all pleased; she told me he was part of the Black Power organisation and that he was renown in the game for being a nasty piece of work. Ever since then when I hear him on TV as a pundit I am waiting for some of this inner evil to show itself....... never does just always seems like a non entity of a pundit
Goodman divides opinion. A few see him as a weirdly anti Blades prick. I wonder what occurred with Stan the Man?

Reminds me of the saying associated with the Scotland fans.
Jesus saves but Dalglish nets the rebound.
Was wee Jemmy playing for Celtic yet?
Swear older Blades used to say "Jesus saves but Currie scores from the rebound". Think I remember hearing there was even graffiti to that effect on Shoreham Street!

Speaking of Celtic, if this went ahead The Troubles would still be going! 😱:
