Nice to see Ched silencing the doubters

Can't just be happy that he's got a good 40 minutes under his belt in a competitive game. It's got to be a binary between "he's made it" and "it counts for nothing".

For those who could not be bothered to go tonight, I really can't understand how you can form an opinion.
For what its worth, I thought Ched did well tonight against League 1 opposition, and showed glimpses that he's not that far off the first 11.

Agree "glimpses" being the key word.

For anyone that didn't go tonight, Ched wasn't brilliant tonight and not yet at the level of Sharp or Clarke but Ched did show little touches and glimpses that he's still got it and could be a big asset and that was my main question about him.

Similar with young Brooks, overall he wasn't great tonight, some poor free kicks and poor decision making but Brooks shows glimpses of real talent way above league 1 level. He sometimes goes pass players as though they aren't there and shows some wonderful flicks and quick passing. A long way from the finished article but Brooks is clearly extremely talented.

This is like the owlstalk frenzy over how Carlos is the best manager on earth because they beat Chessy. I'm a big fan of Ched, but he's a long way to go. I wish him luck.

Like many things it's the context.

Playing well against a poor Walsall side is nothing to get excited about, it's not a big deal

But some experts on here insisted that Ched was finished. They said he struggled at a relegated league 1 side last season and could never regain his 2012 form after not playing football for 4 years. Many said Wilder had blundered because it could take years for Ched to find any form and even then he would be past it.

Well based on tonight's performance the above view would appear to be inaccurate or scaremongering to serve an agenda.
Walsall play in league 1 and Ched showed glimpses tonight he's he's a class above Walsall level (remember they played a full strength team tonight).

It's early days and could be a one off but the BIG NEWS for the doubters (which I was one) is it looks like Ched might still have it.

You're a silly man.

Its just one of the very many things I find more interesting to debate than Ched Evans. Other examples include: the best way to peel a banana? Why is a tomato a fruit? How long does bread have to be in a toaster before it can reasonably be considered toast? And what is wrong with people who prefer ketchup to Brown sauce?

Abroad at minute mate but glad to hear that. Like I've said, hope it works out for him and us obviously.

Do you hold the same opinion vis a vis any other of his teamates?

After many years of watching this most wonderful of sports, I still find it gob-smackingly amazing that so many football fans don't have a clue, and so many seem to want certain of their own players to fail in order to prove to others what they believe themselves - that they are in fact experts.

Some of us remain of the view Evans shouldn't be playing in a United shirt and that won't change whether he scores 35 or 5 goals this season.
Hopefully we aren't about to become defined by a player instead of the team we once again became last season.

New to Blades forums then?

The world would be a much better place without haters. I blame the 'trial by Facebook' culture.
There's loads of footballers that have arguably done worse things at higher profile clubs but they've been forgiven.
It's admirable to have morals regards football but in many ways the whole industry is to some degree immoral.
Its hard where to draw the line without being potentially hypocritical.
Agree though that no player should define any club and I doubt that will be the case here, the fans and the club are always bigger.

No; debates around the rest of our current squad tend to focus on abilities and tactics. Which like most fans I really enjoy (hence the hours spent every week on here)
With Ched however history and mortality tend to take over. People's preconceptions don't really change and arguments tend to get petty. I just feel the arguments have all been done to death and one substitute appearance doesn't give much further insight.

Then why not do as I and most others have and comment on his football and nothing else.
It's morality by the way. Like all of us,he is mortal and will die.

Ahh apologies, late night typo. I just feel you only have to look at the title of the thread to highlight the issue. It as if fans are divided into 'haters ' and 'fan boys'. When the silent majority will do doubt disagree with his previous behaviour and understand the damage done but will judge the situation on merit. I.e. contribution on the field. He needs treat as a new signing, no big love in based upon previous performances but not having an axe to grind either.

Those views have no weight or merit on a football forum now. Take them elsewhere, please.

I have 2 daughters, and if either one of them acted like the slag Ched went with I'd disown them and top myself for failing them so miserably.
He was innocent of any crime! Fuck morals,we've all shagged a bird we shouldn't have

Lol

Give the lad a break and stop this Salem witch hunt. Some people just love to put players on a pedestal and then knock them down. Ched has paid dearly for his mistake and every time he pulls on the red and white shirt a posse of haters revile him. There's scum bags in the football world who have done far worse and get less publicity.

As a Sheffield United player the only thing that matters to me is that he plays well, and helps the team to win games.
He also kissed the badge so that proves his sincerity

So Ched can score 35 goals and you will still think he shouldn't be playing for United, that tells me you are not a supporter of Sheffield United and just a Ched tourist

An extra two penneth on this.

WHEN Ched gets his swagger, his confidence, his arrogance back, get ready.

His demeanour has been understandably dented with what he has been through. He is quite visibly withdrawn, almost shy, being overly careful not to show cockiness outwardly for fear of further negative coverage and reprisals from the agenda driven "mob". You / they know who you / they are !

This is, IMHO, the biggest challenge in front of Evans and the management team.

Overcome this, and £500k will most probably be the best £500k the club has ever spent.

Again, well played last neet.

Ever thought you might, just possibly, be on the wrong web-site?

I really don't want to go through the whole Ched discussions again, but a fan can surely believe he we shouldn't have resigned him because of his previous unprofessional actions which brought the club significant negative publicity? Add to that the amount of money he took out of the club for a single season return, a season which were torpedoed largely through his own actions.
You don't have to agree with those points, but it's a valid footballing opinion which can be freely aired for discussion, and I personally can see why some fans don't want him back and wish we'd gone for another option without necessarily agreeing.

If you don't want him at our club because he's a rapist, then that is something entirely different.
