Get those 16 points I mentioned and we'll be 20 points clear of Norwich and Watford at this rate

F*cking incredible

Might be switching focus to Boro and WBA very soon

We’ll win all of them. (I hope)

Talking about other teams stats and data, people are forgetting how we are 11 points clear and how we dominate almost every footballing metric, this is for a reason.

Yeah we’ve lost to Stoke, QPR, Rotherham but having half of your squad out injured or coming back from injury had a huge impact on what return we got. Reading got smashed, Hull were beaten in second gear, and Swansea was the typical poor performance that we always seem to fish out there, totally different playing the ball across the back at bramall lane take last year as a reference.

I’ll say it again, we’re double digits clear of 3rd before the new year, and we’ve done that with one of the biggest injury lists in recent history. Besides I’d rather have those fixtures in comparison to what Burnley have coming up…

Swansea
Coventry
West Brom
Millwall
Norwich
Preston
Watford
Luton
I am a bit more bullish like you.

I’d even go insofar as suggesting the chasing pack will not get beyond the 70s.

It’s all so tight that the chasing pack could be classed as 10 or 11 clubs but in all likelihood you’re considering Blackburn, Watford, Norwich, Sunderland, Boro and West Brom. That’s not discounting Luton, Preston, QPR, Millwall or Coventry either but I doubt they have the resources to ‘kick on’ significantly towards closing such a sizeable gap. If anything I can see Coventry, a few people’s Dark Horse tips, being weaker at the end of the window - O’Hare is out for the season and Gyokeres will be seen as a saviour for many a struggling PL team. Can they resist?

Blackburn are so hit and miss. It’s not just a question of turning draws into wins, they’ve had no draws, it’s a far bigger ask turning reverses into positive results. I just don’t see anything happening to change that trend.

Watford, minus Joao Pedro now for 6-8 weeks are more likely to go through a period of worse form than better form in the near future especially when you look at the thrashing at middling Swansea and the impact that may have on morale. Plus maybe finally, post World Cup, someone does put Sarr out of his misery.

Norwich also fell further behind and there is insecurity at some of the potential management options available such as Bruce. Just don’t see them getting their act together. Their transfer policy seems to have finally unravelled and they are not a club who solves problems through splashing the cash.

Sunderland is an interesting one. They have put together a play off run despite being deprived of Stewart and Simms for lengthy periods. They have a wealthy owner too, have Diallo hitting some form, so if they need a nudge to help them remain there, you can imagine he would provide funding. Do they have the all-round depth though? Not easy to upgrade a whole squad.

West Brom are on an excellent run with Corberon and that run of 7 wins is impressive but nonetheless a little misleading. Aside from Sunderland who were without Stewart, those wins come against exclusively bottom half teams. It’s a good run but they are favourable fixtures.

Boro will be delighted with Carrick’s impact. We are, ourselves, aware of Akporn’s danger when on form. I’m not sure they have the depth to go on an absolute stellar run that would catapult them up to top two reckoning and they may not have additional gears to slide into in terms of capability. Doubt they will spend much being a non-parachute team.

Looking at all of these teams, they only threaten if the top two collapse. Burnley continuing to win is probably a good thing in a sense. It removes complacency and keeps a pacesetter there to drive us on. Looking at the fixtures, Hecky is right to push the team to keep the hammer down. Before we enter a spate of fixtures against play offs teams at the end of Feb and in March, there are some games where we would be clear favourites. Do the job and the lead by the start of March could be unassailable.

Long thread but that’s all my thoughts on our rivals and us in one shot!

I honestly can't see us losing any of those matches, even though we aren't playing brilliantly at the moment we are doing enough to get the wins. Hang on to most of our squad, (maybe the odd loan out and Khadra returned to sender) and a couple of good additions and we will get stronger.

Blackpool (A) - WON
QPR (A) - WIN, QPR are in an awful rut
Stoke (H) - WIN - Home form should be strong enough to see off an inconsistent Stoke
Hull (H) - WIN - although this is typically one we would screw up!
Reading (A) - DRAW - always a tough place to go
Rotherham (A) - WIN - inconsistent like Stoke, in a rut like QPR
Swansea (H) - DRAW - they will be up for it after we robbed them at their place

That would put us on 64 points after 31 games....
Bit optermistic T.
QPR lose (statistics makes it nailed on home win)
Stoke Draw (bossed Burnley last night)
Hull win (improving, drawn 3 then won last night)
Reading Win (held Norwich last night, Carol scoring again)
Rotherham Win (nailed on lose but got to call a win)
Swansea draw (hammered Watford last night)

61 points

I'm going to predict that we will win all of the next 6. We probably won't but then again we will be the favourite in each of those fixtures and there is nothing there to worry us provided we are professional, cut out any silly mistakes and keep out players fit n firing.

The other teams all have their strengths and weaknesses and wont lay down for us but flip it and you can bet they are all thinking 'fuck, we have Sheff Utd to play soon'. Just concentrate on getting as many points in the bag now and if we slip up, make sure we bounce back next game. An excellent run now and we could virtually jog over the finishing line in April.

I want to be sat with the feet up, beer in hand, smug grin on face, and watching the end of season play offs with the Utd lads all on their holidays. Make it happen Utd.

Ellis Sims recalled by Everton, making Sunderland drop a 7 goal forward.

Buckley's sending off for Blackburn has been upheld and he'll now miss the next three matches.

Dele-Bashura added tl Watford's dwindling numbers after Joao Pedro was rules out, coming off through injury against Swansea.

3 dollops of bad news for teams chasing promotion.

If we keep up the good form we will be ok.
I don,t think any player will be sold no need to. might be a couple of loan players coming in.
Enjoy the ride fellow Blade fans.

Another interesting one on who I probably have seen as our biggest rivals for top two:

.... is the time to seal it

Between now and 11th Feb we have:

Blackpool (A)
QPR (A)
Stoke (H)
Hull (H)
Reading (A)
Rotherham (A)
Swansea (H)

At least 5 favourable games there, and at a time when more of the squad are becoming available again

Norwich and Watford both look to have less favourable games in this period

So a good return for us, say 16 points, would put us on 63 from 31 games and probably out of sight

Obviously its easy to play the 'on paper' game like this but this really is a period we need to capitalise on. A good transfer window should be part of that as well

Didn’t we do this back in the day when we didn’t win in 6. Can we stick to the cliche of one game at a time!

Yep, stick to the one at a time thing..... but I think the players and staff would also be daft not to be looking at this period for the crazy unexpected decisive opportunity that it is

we have 13 home games left, win all those & we are up with 89 points,
any away points are a bonus

it's in our own hands

I'm confident

I think 88 points is where we need to be, id be over the moon with 90, and that must put us up??
One game and 3 points at a time, but, we only need to be 1 point above 3rd come May, let's just hope we don't screw up, and the lads get us over the line🤞

This seems to work out to me. 78-82 will likely be enough unless one of the sides below basically win every match

Its funny how this has just sort of snook up on us before the break i was just looking at us keeping within touching distance then through the christmas period weve come out with such a big gap that we now have some breathing space to approach games in a way that will suit us ,not having to chase three points

We dont seem to be feeling the pressure but my main worry after reading a lot of the posts on this forum is that a defeat or two would see the crowd turn on the team who to be fair have got in this position in front of some pretty apathetic crowds
