New Manager ?

If they sack Wilder, I hope they have a truly outstanding manager lined up, otherwise they will sorely regret listening to the very small number of very loud voices on here that want Wilder to go.

Let's hope the grass is actually greener.
I think on one of the Polls on this site after the Sunderland defeat, it was over 60% wanted him to be moved on

I doubt very much that they listen to S24su. They can make up their own minds, based on what they've seen since they took over. It's all there.

“the signings will be foreign based young players from leagues like Bulgaria. Great”

Do you actually believe this?
They actually believe we’re only gonna sign “AI players”
The ones signed aren’t even for the first team yet this is their narrative for Wilder potentially leaving. Not the dreadful football or the petulance

I just want a bit of entertaining , exciting football. 90 (92) points and can count on one hand (maybe a mutant 6 finger hand) the number of games we truly bossed. It was a much better season on paper than from the stands.

Wilder knows how to win at this level, no doubt.. but given the strength and cost of our squad, I'd like to see "the beautiful game" at BDTBL for a bit. It would make the grim reality of a season in the Prem far more bearable.

The key stat for me from last year was "10th in the league for Big Chances created".

Totally agree! Great post

The ironic thing is that had we had finished 8ish without ever challenging for automatics, his job would have been safer. A creditable top half finish after the previous seasons chaos and the massive rebuilding.

It's the massive two level disappointment of missing out on automatics and play off final failure that may do for him.

No chance. Despite the rebuild we were operating with a top-3 budget last season, behind only Burnley and Leeds. Anything less than what we got would have been a failure.

Sausage Rohl for me.

I don't rate him at all, but talk about lighting the blue touchpaper and standing back. NKT would go into uber meltdown.
Absolutely not.

Not even thinking about Rohl's ability as a manager (FWIW I think Wilder is better than him), but just on the principle I wouldn't want us to be their escape route for catching up with their unpaid wages.

Ditto. What's the point of success if it's boring to watch

He’s entirely to blame for the worst bottle job I’ve ever seen, mere games to go sat top of the league and we shit the bed, leading in the play off final with 20 mins to go and we shit the bed. He deserves to be sacked.

Last season was solid, not great, though given where we were at the end of last season it has been really promising. I've supported and watched us for over 50 years and if you think that was bad...
Me too - hence the name on here. I know we've seen far worse, but that 4th Div season was among the most enjoyable of my life. Not that I'm at all suggesting it again any time soon

Well I nailed my colours to the mast at this time last year - I was firmly behind Wilder. The main reason for this was because he's got a proven track record with next to fuck all to spend and obviously we had a major rebuild with the old ownership still running the show.

Things are different now. If the new owners plan to splash the cash to not only get us over the line but look to build on that in the medium term, then, for me, Wilder is not the man. As his track record shows he is shit with real money. He rarely touches the foreign market and sticks to what he knows and believes.

Don't get me wrong I have a lot of time for Wilder and his management methods - what he's done over the 9 years (with obvious departure) has been fantastic and for that he will always be held in the highest regard by me. He's up there will the best managers we've had in my 60 odd years life time and truly deserves this recognition for the rest of his days. He should be welcomed back to the Lane till the day he dies. BUT, as I said, things change in football and I now think the time is right for a change of manager and methods.

Perhaps, but I certainly expected us to finish mid table and wouldn't have been surprised to see a relegation fight. I could be wrong, but I think that was a common view at the start of the season.

On the flipside I can't think of anything funnier than Wilder managing Wednesday. Just to see their faces and his face.

The idea that the owners play the blindest bit of attention to what people are posting on here is absolutely wild.

There's not a hope in hell either of those sides even answer the phone to him
Rotherham will be his next job, or Donny maybe Plymouth? - but he won’t go that far as he won’t hear his mates in boozer telling him how great he is

Big Sam did a better job (got in Europe ) with a smaller club, but rightly so he’s now yesterdays man - think CWs time is up in the top 2 divisions

Good luck to him iIf he does go, but I don't think his antics have helped his situation tbh, maybe he'll get a reprieve till Xmas, but if he exits I hope he takes his staff with him and we have a clear out for the new man to bring his own men in, Knilly, Prestridge and Lester have done ok, but need moving on now, we're not fit, have no recognised system and can't score for toffee half the time, thank you for your service, but it's hopefully, onwards and upwards now blades

Well as two of them are young and come from Bulgaria, the other from Peru, what do you expect me to think? If the signings were for experienced internationals then fair enough. We need 3/4 quality additions ready to go straight into the team. So far the signings from AI are not convincing me that these are ready now to go in. Maybe the fact Wilder never played Cecares has gone against him also. He's 23 in September but never played for Peru who are not a good side I might add.

More the evidence around all PL clubs and around 70% of Champ clubs using the DoF>Manager structure. Nothing specific about United.

I've been posting the same information for some time now and alot of people are just not interested in "the real world", I think it's called "in denial". Just like only 4 British managers/coaches in the Premier League.

I think there's every chance he goes imminently tbh. I don't think the owners will be overly happy with the way last season ended up going. I imagine Chris isn't overly happy about how transfers will go either with the data driven approach, and the owners will be less inclined to let him have his own way after the binfire of January. And let's be honest, new owners aren't famed for their patience.

The contract extension was a massive mistake considering the compensation that will be due, but given how much we had to pay in fines last season due in part to Wilder not having control and pouring petrol on the fire of PASHUN, I think they'll view severance pay as money well spent.

I'm mixed on it. If he stays, I'll not mind, but worry we'll be somewhat stale. If he goes, and depending on his replacement, I'll be happy to see a new direction for the club.
Any shred of evidence other than it’s what you think

🤔

We also signed Cannon, Clarke, Hamza, BBD & Holding in Jan...

I think as a good poster you could see beyond the Wilder situation and think that top signings are unlikely to be made until the managerial situation is sorted one way or another. Suggesting we’re only going to sign unproven young players isn’t a defence of CW, it’s just a dig at the board who may be getting rid. Based on next to nothing as of now.

Our signings since the new owners:

Tom Cannon
BBD
Harry Clarke
Hamza Choudhury
Rob Holding

Jeff Caceres
Utaki
Nwachukwu

Seems there was a mixture of looking at players that will/should improve the first team, and some punts from foreign leagues that hopefully will improve.

Not sure I'd agree we are now AI first because our most recent signing was a foreign punt.
