New Manager ?

Chose him as a manager on my FIFA career mode to get FC Saarbrücken back to the Bundesliga . I thought he had done really well this season with Bodø/Glimt.
100%, i definitely wouldn't complain if we took him on, it's rather Chris stay though.

Chris Wilder’s future as Sheffield United manager is in doubt after the club’s failure to seal a return to the Premier League.

Wilder could be sacked later on Thursday by United’s new owners, just under three weeks since the Championship play-off final defeat by Sunderland at Wembley.

The 57-year-old’s team were in contention for promotion for the majority of last season, despite a two-point deduction, but he is expected to pay the price after falling short in the promotion bid. Senior officials are believed to be preparing for a recruitment meeting on Thursday.

It will be the second time Wilder has been sacked by his boyhood club, following his previous dismissal in March 2021. He returned to the club in December 2023 and signed a new contract last season which would have run to 2028.

United’s new owners, American-based consortium COH Sports, are keen to make a new appointment before pre-season. The consortium, led by businessmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, completed their takeover at Bramall Lane in December last year, when the team were top of the Championship.

After the defeat by Sunderland last month, Wilder said: “We’ve had the taste of Premier League, we know what a great experience it is and the experience that they’ll have next season.

“It’s going to take quite a while to get over this and we’re going to have to suffer and go through the pain.”

United are the latest Championship club to start searching for a new manager, joining Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers.
Deserves to go for the complete bottle job this season and for signing Brewster and to compound matters offering him a new contract. Much better managers out there.

The question is could someone have done better with the budget maybe yes ?
92 points a 100 plus total was the very and expected ( by us on here) achievable target with 3 weeks to go.
We lost the play off final because we sat in for the whole second half due to our management of the game ...again. The Lane will be like a morgue next season if we deploy the same turgid slow tactics
Possible that the owners feel that rather than taking that chance and having to get a new man in in November then now is the best time to start a new project
Three words there : Could. Maybe. Possible.I

All imponderables.

You don't think going fully AI only is a little ott?

Pardon I clearly didn't interview every single blade but most people in football supporting groups are still not totally against a little bit of old school scouting 🙄
I think you are maybe, once again, choosing to interpret comments to suit an agenda. I took “full AI”, taken in conjunction with other comments, to mean that recruitment will now be AI led. As with other clubs who have successfully adopted that model, eyes on scouting will be included as a part of the overall process. That makes far more sense to me than continuing with just the “old school scouting” which massively shrinks our potential pool and would lead to our inevitable decline as a club.

But don’t let that get in the way of hunting down something to criticise the club for.

Just been reported on talksport, saying a board meeting is taking place and they’ll update shortly as soon as they know, sounds like he’s done to me. simon Jordan says it would be harsh on him.

i hope this isnt correct. after the disaster of PL. that was our best 2nd tier league season weve never achieved 92pts & 28 wins. just unlucky we were in a season where 100pts didnt win you the title. wilder is the best manager in clubs recent history

anyone is to be blamed for failure of last season its keifer moore forgetting to open his eyes when passing the ball towards his own net

Jordan can do one. Clickbaiting shyster. Constantly dipping his d1ck in the most controversial pies.

The potential pool which has got us to 90+ points when for the first half of the season we had a half built squad?

To change methods now the only way it could be a success is to guarantee promotion ( and survival after or at least a real fight to stay up) and there's nothing in football that can guarantee that.

Can't we just address the failing of the season gone and put measures in place to restrict them happening again?

Whether Wilder agrees to that or not is another question.

At the very least I would like some form of a director of football in place so if managers come and go we have a baseline model to continue with regardless. Ideally one which ensures the players we sign have resale values, not the £100m pissed away on recruitment when a PL side in 2019-2021.

I think it would be a huge gamble at this stage. They know roughly what to expect from Wilder, what are the chances of finding someone to pick up a new team who will smash 90-100 points in their first season? All so we can integrate Nigerian wingers from Plovdiv? I mean it might work...

I seriously hope this isn’t true. Devastating news. Hope all the bitter blades are buzzing
It looks like it's true, sadly. The writing was on the wall as soon as the COH sports statement came out after the play offs and didn't even mention Wilder. That to me was a sign to the fans that they were going to consider his position.

If Sean Dyche was coming I'd be ok with that but it's never going to be him, too similar to Wilder; i.e he'll want to make his own signings.

So it will probably be a young and/or foreign coach.

In conclusion, whoever comes in looks likely that they'll not be in control of signings and the signings will be foreign based young players from leagues like Bulgaria. Great.

If any of our fans think this is good news then I'd strongly disagree! The silver lining is that we have some very good players in this squad irrespective and if the new manager is decent then I'd still be confident of promotion next season. But it's the last bit that worries me, i.e Steven Gerrard coming in, or some other name but little experience. We've got one season left of decent parachute payments and if we blow this then we could be the next Stoke City.

Do you actually believe this?

An extremely short termist view. As I have said previously, none of us have a clue whether promotion next season is critical to the new owners. Perhaps they consider it more important to be commencing the building of something that is fit to move the club forward in a progressive manner and could maybe eventually establish us in the EPL.

I guess we’ll see. Hopefully they’ll ignore the noise from those who are stuck in the past and terrified of change. I know I would if I was them.

If they sack Wilder, I hope they have a truly outstanding manager lined up, otherwise they will sorely regret listening to the very small number of very loud voices on here that want Wilder to go.

Let's hope the grass is actually greener.

I just want a bit of entertaining , exciting football. 90 (92) points and can count on one hand (maybe a mutant 6 finger hand) the number of games we truly bossed. It was a much better season on paper than from the stands.

Wilder knows how to win at this level, no doubt.. but given the strength and cost of our squad, I'd like to see "the beautiful game" at BDTBL for a bit. It would make the grim reality of a season in the Prem far more bearable.
