The main thing a manager should do should decide how you are going to play ,play your best players in their best positions ,get rid of the others and get good players in to replace them. Simple , and its what all the best teams have done ,then have your 2nd and 3rd teams playing the same way so you have players to come in. After almost a season our genius hasn't even decided how we should play ,therefore no symmetry between the 2nd and 3rd teams ,played our best players out of position ,got rid of the better players and hasn't got nobody better to replace them apart from Sharp. Sorry but he is weak as piss.

We are going nowhere with Adkins.

On Sunday Supplement it was said " a team reflects its manager." Well we are totally inconsistent and we are worse than last year. We will almost certainly finish lower in the League than last year, that's going backwards. Don't just say he has had Clough's players. Ranieri had largely a team of relegation battlers and look what's happened there. He messes about with the team, formations etc. Tinkerman? Blinkerman more like.

I've just been reading a recent Harry Redknapp book, where he offers a lot of incites. perhaps Adkins should have read it. Some of the advice is basic stuff. I don't think United have some of those basics at the moment. A manager's job is to motivate and maximise the impact of the resources at his disposal. NA hasn't done that.

I think McCabe et al will continue with him and I think next year we'll be back to Weir standard......with no Clough to come to the rescue.

Its funny that i've become the Adkins apologist, but i honestly think the last two months have really been a big change for him. He's struggled all season and he's struggled with characters, but he's wielded the axe recently and its refreshing.

The result and performance yesterday was complete shite, but lets not get clouded by things as minor as games of football.

I've long since written off this season, 8 months of fannying about by adkins and the board has seen that we are not challenging the top two. But we should also forget any dreams of play offs (the manager, players and board, not fans, our dreams have gone) and get the young lads playing.

You genuinely think football management is this simplistic?

Does Redknapp's book discuss his utterly reckless spending that near bankrupted some of his ex clubs?
Redknapp didn't spend the money ,the chairmen did ,they can say no and often did. He actually turned massive profits on players at most clubs. The book is a very good read by the way ,he has had one interesting life.

Stick with the manager we have, build steadily. Sacking yet another manager will not guarantee success, but adkins will make the progress needed
I'm not for sacking managers, but we have gone backwards under NA and his signings have been terrible, I wouldn't trust him with recruitment in the summer, and mark my words quite a few of our out of contract players will get new deals next season and this forum will explode with discontent!

Agree with you on the first bit not on the second. Getting a team like Rotherham out of a relegation fight is utterly different to getting a club like us into a play off position. Don't think enough of the players care enough so no matter how much you motivate them makes no difference.

We need to get rid of this shower of shit and start again.
I dont think so , this league is shit and tighten up at the back and nick the ofd goal from set pieces and you will go on enough of a run to go up

Adkins is too soft

You only have to look at Millwall v Sheff Utd.
Under Warnock we had Morgan and Kenny battling on and off the pitch against Muscat and a 2 nd div Millwall with much better players than now and yet we still win with a Del Geary goal not to be forgotten.
Under Adkins we play a shocking 3rd div Millwall ,by their own recognition concede a pathetic 2nd minute goal ,show zero fight on or off the pitch and meekly surrender to yet another goal we cant respond to in a game which will be forgotten because it is so similar to virtually every other fucking game this season.
And yet still favour Adkins to Warnock ,its beyond me.

Did a great PR job for the club with referees.
Thats going to take years to rectify.
Like the six years to get us up and one year to take us down.......Classic

Which part of what I said isn't true? It's all relative. He started with an average to poor second tier team that played against other second tier teams. It took him six years to put a promotion team together. Here he would start with an average to poor third tier team playing against other third tier teams. Why do you think he'd find a successful formula so much easier than last time, especially when considering each of his last three jobs are supposed to have been the "one last challenge" he had in him?

The job here is too big an ask for him now.

In three of our L1 seasons we finished in the play offs. Couldn't have been that shit. But we've now got shittier.

Its all hypothetical anyway but the people who dont want him back and selectively remember his failings as our most successful post war manager will surely be fucking ecstatic when we are two divisions and 100's of millions behind the truffle hunters he had put us two divisions and millions of pounds above as well as thousands of fans

Just remember all those fans lobbying for Warnock . He comes with Blackwell ( another sacking cock up after the QPR game at home ). Warnock would be DOF and Blackwell coach / manager .

May well be 100 times better than what we have got at the moment ,but if it is , we have big serious problems on the management front with Adkins . Let's see were we Finnish up at the end of the season , what tactics we play and who he picks .

Adkins has a more Reading feel about him at the moment which grows stronger . Southampton , Scunthorpe seems like it was a different Adkins , although different time , different league , different circumstances.

UTB

Id rather keep adkins personally as the wheels are in motion for him to start with a clean slate next year
All those who slate warnock should remember that we are about to go full circle from being the laughing stock behind leeds and the pigs to being head and shoulders above them to being where we are now and If the pigs do go up the damage done will be irreversible

As one of the intelligentsia on here your posts are hugely enjoyable, but looking ahead I feel that what the club are doing with Adkins is completely knocking everything down and starting again. I don't think it was necessary, but there again I'm not McCabe or the manager.

All we were lacking two seasons ago was a goal scorer to replace a certain man who without a fee being paid had been transferred to 'Liverpool', and later a centre half the previous incumbent hadn't replaced who had left for Hull. I don't quite see why the whole team has suddenly become 'shite'.

It has and so the re-building has started. At this rate expect League 1 football possibly until 2020.

I fear it will be Judgey, I fear it will. A guess is that it will be a Hull v Pigs POF and the scumbags will win.

The Blades have now become a 'Notts County' type of club. I just hope we don't complete the transformation to a Bradford PA club.

But SUFC in the third should be top two.

NUFC will expect the same next season in div2 if they go down.

What IF Neil was offered the chance to return until the end of this season, with the possibility of another twelve month contract, but he turned it down to take over Rotherham United instead?

Quite a lot of support for Warnock here, a bit surprising actually. And many of those against it would probably come round once we started to pick up.

And if we didn't? Sack him too? Get Bassett in?

I can just imagine in this age of the interwebz the first time old Warnock goes through a sticky spell.

It would be exactly the same as every other manager.

Same vocal minority, same arguments, same conclusions.

Do I want Warnock back? No but a better question would be; if he came back would he be given the time to produce something solid from the base up? If the answer is still as I suspect no then why bother?

It would be worse. As soon as it went slightly wrong all the Warnock haters would be apoplectic with their 'told you so' posts. Unless he hit the ground running and we pissed the league first time, never out of the top two, he'd be more divisive than either Clough, Wilson or Adkins.

Love the sentiment Swiss but there isn't a lot of evidence to back that up.

Real quandary for me and I think he's probably survived so far due to the 'fuck ups' in the past. All in all, that's not a reason to keep hold of anybody - football manager or otherwise.

That said, I believe McC will stay with him - for the medium term at least. Just hope your confidence in his ability is well justified otherwise the club could finish up an even bigger train crash than it already is.
