Adkins had meeting with individual players and the group on the Wednesday after the Burton game. There was a dressing room rows, post match, as you would expect. He has given the players (at the club) he's unhappy with another chance until the end of the season after the meetings (he really doesn't have a choice). I'm not really into putting players names in the public, as there might be a shift in attitude, and the player in question is contracted next season. Some of the others who are often "not available for selection" etc are all out of contract so will be jettisoned (they have reappeared of late too). Others are on loan, and I don't think they'll be back if we can find takers for them.

Sorry don't buy it just another excuse for NA poor performance so far. CB was a major priority at the end of last season and NA didn't address it and it is a major reason for our position. I don't get the disruptive allegations against Collins he has played 30+games, if he wasn't being picked it might have more credibility, and he certainly isn't being disruptive because he was unhappy at NC being booted, as I said another excuse for Adkins failings

I had heard from a friend who knows someone that works in an important role at the academy said that Collins was a bad influence, along with Doyle (I was told this last year). Can anyone shed any light on exactly what he's been doing that negatively influences the team? Just curious?
Also, who is this other bad influence that needs to go, if he can be named? If not, no worries.

well, you see him on the pitch laying into other players and blaming everyone but himself. I'm sure that carries on away from match days.

It is hard to fathom. Especially when you've got Kennedy on Twitter telling fans he's been fit most of this season. If Collins was that disruptive, surely Adkins would have given Kennedy or McGahey more of a go.

I'm under no illusion that Kennedy is the saviour either, but if Collins is such a bad influence you'd imagine the manager would avoid playing him at all costs, much like Clough did, I suppose.

I think the issue with Kennedy is fitness. He can play a few games then injured again. McGahey might be an ability issue!

Yet NA has chosen to play him 33 times why would any manager do that, if that statement has any truth in it, just another excuse for NA IMO

Morgs (for one) would surely have been party to Nigel Clough's reasons for freezing Collins out? So if he really is a disruptive influence, why was this not made clear to Adkins at the start of the season? If Adkins has only just figured it out after 9 months in charge then I have severe doubts about his abilities as a manager.

I think Adkins was genuinely wanting to give everyone a fresh start – just because a player and past manager couldn't work together, doesn't mean that they can't get a second chance.

You can see a load of posts on the board praising Warnock's transformation at Rotherham. What he didn't do on day one was say to Greg Halford "the last two managers froze you out for a reason, and you'll be no part of my team, you lazy disruptive bastard".

I never understood people who wanted Collins near the first team. He was a terrible signing by Adams and helped to seal our relegation. When he played with Harry his short comings were masked. Did anyone ever see him bollock Harry? He is a bully who is even worse than when we signed him. He was so poor that he was farmed out to the likes of Port Vale but still managed to somehow stay when NC lost his job.

Good ridance in my view.

It makes you wonder now, did Collins,( if true) advise Harry to leave for hull, for his own preservation, or was it, as we thought at the time, because you don't get many chances to join a club at that level. I'm now beginning to think the former.

I note with interest that 2 managers have now fallen out with him and both have done it after a game where we have been trailing and he’s ended up up front for the last few minutes as we chase an equaliser. I strongly suspect this is the subject of the row. It seems that either he’s decided to up front against the manager’s instructions to try to nick an equaliser or, the manager has put him up front and he’s kicked off about it. I have a feeling it might be the latter given Adkins’ comments about ego and the desire he would have had to put one over Clough with a last minute equaliser.

Clough actually stated it was because he played deeper than instructed and Adkins said that his initial tactics were undermined by one player - not the last 5 minutes. We were also comically deep against Burton. Collins obviously has no pace and is only comfortable playing with the game in front of him, I guess that he hangs back in order that he doesn't look bad and is in his comfort zone - even if that screws over the rest of the team.

You could be right mate. I don't recall Clough saying that but do remember some forum posters saying it.

I strongly suspect it’s not as simple as that. I don’t think the “bad influence” thing is a continuing thing that’s been going on all season. I suspect there has been some difference of opinion between them with Collins not towing the line and following instructions. I suspect he did similar under Clough. It only takes one occurrence of defiance. I’m sure Adkins won’t have felt that way about him all season. After all, wasn’t he part of the six player committee that had meetings with the manager etc?

It might be isolated incidents and one-off bust ups where the player has over-stepped the mark or defied the manager. Clough froze Collins out around September/October 2014. That’s 10 or 11 months after he was appointed. Adkins has done it after 9 months. Maybe that makes him a better manager than Clough?
