Oh god I know of course you do. You're so much better than people who posts on internet football forums aren't you. Enjoy your Sunday. Don't forget to go around with your hilariously misplaced sense of superiority will you.
Not at all. You might have noticed that I’m a person who posts on football forums.

You don’t know me and I don’t know you so we can only go by the persona that each of us chooses to present on here. All I ever see from you is an unhealthy obsession with a man you probably don’t even know in real life to the extent that you dive straight into anyone who even dares to hint that he might be less than perfect in every way. In a very short space of time you’ve gained a reputation for it, and that’s perfectly valid for a bit of piss taking as far as I’m concerned. If you don’t like that, maybe this isn’t the place for you.

But the thing is you have replied to me and it was a post telling people to try not to get down about football.

My response back to you was very reasonable not looking for an argument at all. And then you come out with this irrelevant stuff about how we shouldn't teach our grandkids to idolise football managers. I wasnt at all suggesting that and you are so obviously looking for an argument replying with it.

The Wilder stuff isnt I'm obsessed with him it's that I find the level of dislike and the insane takes on him quite unbelievable after what he's done. He's the best manager in my lifetime so I really like him.

Genuinely try to respond to your posts to me in good faith. I really dont think you can say the same. If you keep doing it I'll keep replying with my observations on you.

Go for it! Water of a duck’s back to me. It’s not as if a football forum has anything to do with real life. What you say or think about me doesn’t matter one jot.

But if you think that you your kids and grandkids choose as role models is irrelevant, you clearly aren’t a parent. Maybe too young?

I’d not realised it was a 1230 kick off and booked to play padel and have some beers after with some mates, but to be honest this summer has put me off football a bit this season. Season was written off before the season got started and just can’t get excited with how poorly these owners are taking decisions which have led to us being in the current position.

It probably hasn’t helped that I can’t get to so many home games with work and other things as well as how the fixtures have landed as well.

I think and hope we’ll stay up and perhaps later this or even next season we might get some better feeling back in the club.

Such a strange feeling at the moment to not really care

Oooh bit patronising again there chief.

Obviously I am saying kids role models is irrelevant to a conversation about feeling more emotion when its Wilder managing United.

And this is my issue. You cannot seriously for one second have thought I was saying kids role models are irrelevant. There’s no way you could actually think that. So totally disingenuous again and looking for an argument.

Either engage genuinely or just leave me alone.

I know what you mean. I’ll keep going as it’s such a long standing ritual (rather than a routine or a habit, which are slightly different), but the actual match is becoming increasingly incidental to the wider experience. The games themselves are very meh aren’t they, have been for a while. Maybe that’s also football in general? I don’t see many exciting games in the English leagues any more.

Your saying that conversations can’t evolve and must remain entirely one dimensional? OK.

You can't do it can you. You cant admit I may have a point here.

Did this conversation evolve to talking about role models? Not at all. You from nowhere in response to me saying I find it more emotional with Wilder in charge was to say football managers aren't role models for kids.

I said that's irrelevant. You then claim i'm saying who kids have as role models is irrelevant.

Like I said there is absolutely no way you could think thats what I meant so it's just looking for an argument again.

Yes, I evolved the conversation into talking about role models. 😂 Many youngsters, sadly, look to football for those. In my opinion, Wilder is a very long way from being a suitable one for anybody (I’m allowed an opinion on that, yes?) so I struggle to see how anyone could form such a deep emotional attachment to him. All perfectly valid and relevant as far as I’m concerned. I don’t see why you’ve got yourself so upset over the opinions of someone you don’t know and are never likely to meet on a football forum.

You didnt evolve the conversation you just decided to say Wilder shouldn't be a role model for kids out of nowhere. Never claimed he should be. Totally irrelevant.

Then you insult me by suggesting this means I cant have kids and pretend im saying that who kids have as role models is irrelevant.

Maybe it was genuine and you're actually that stupid that you honestly think that was the point I was making. Probably best all round to use ignore now isn't it. Tried to be reasonable but you're too annoying.

I’m taking that as a compliment 😂

Yes I'd fully expect you to once again totally misunderstand the point being made 👍

Glad you found this interaction so funny. You should go show your grandkids how you've won another internet argument.

You haven’t found it funny? Maybe lighten up and do something you enjoy, you let things upset you far too easily. Now off you go and stick me on ignore, you’ll be much happier for it 😁

No I've found it incredibly tedious. I was genuinely trying to get a bit of a truce by replying properly to you. We've highjacked a perfectly good thread for it as well. But small price to pay for everyone to see you win an argument I guess.

It used to be my life 80s (Edwards & Morris)
Standing on kop & john street ....as a teenager i never missed, its all that mattered to me .
90s Same ....
Naughties dropped off a bit but still went home & away regularly....Used to love going away getting in boozer nice & early and having a laugh with my mates & everyone else ....
Been twice this season .....it just doesn't pull me in like it used to ...
Im not sure if that's just the way life is or because football has changed beyond all recognition.
Its just not the same , and that's the real shame 😔
I am however a bit of a dinosaur 🦕....
Or as I like to call it old skool

Crikey, it doesn’t take much to wind you up, does it 😂
I used to idolise Edwards he was my fucking hero .
He was my escape from a otherwise dull childhood
I was only 14 and when he scored i was i dreamland ....
Im 54 now and I agree with you, no way would I want my kids looking up to any of these pampered tossers ( that's all football players by the way )

I think that’s football in general, it’s changed so much from being a simple game to now being seemingly more complex and boring.

But as you say, keep going as it’s part of the ritual. I think as well that I never really get too excited about games in the warmer months, although I do enjoy a sunny day for a few beers

When Edwards, Kenworthy, Ludlam and Hamson were breaking into the team they were only slightly older than me and it was so easy to identify with them in a way that I couldn’t with the likes of Currie and Woodward in quite the same way. They were kids of my generation that were living a lifestyle that I could only dream of. So I suppose I idolised them a bit.

Then you get a bit older and start going out in town…… 😂

It didn’t take long to realise that people in football are just as flawed as the rest of us (and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be) but carried with them a sense of entitlement and, usually, protection from the consequences of their behaviour that wasn’t available to the rest of us. As I said, I don’t look up to people in football, I’ve seen and heard far too much over the years, but I like to be entertained by them.
