Millwall fans

Anyone would think we're talking about people with kids unwittingly walking through the middle of a big ruck on Bramall Lane.

The worst trouble my son has witnessed first hand was about 7 years ago when I had to drag him behind a van whilst following police advice to take the long way around. Barely a copper in sight as 20 or 30 away fans launched anything they could their hands on at ordinary fans. No prizes for guessing who.

I've been to football all over but one thing that I'll never tolerate is ordinary fans minding their own business being subjected to violence.

If I goad or confront someone and get a clip it's purely my own fault. If I get bottled in the head or struck in the eye because I happen to be minding my own business 50 yards away from where the coward brigade happen to be, that's not a failure to be grown up.

I doubt anyone on here will deny we have more than our fair share of dickheads. The self styled hoolies today are probably bigger cowardly cockends than at any point in my time.

10 stone wet through in 80s casuals gear, chucking flares and bottles rather than punches.

If you want to act the tough guy at football, do it by fronting up those of a similar approach face to face. Not by risking serious injury to some poor sod minding their own business.

Port Vale has been mentioned but Millwall, Leeds, and in years gone by, Brum, have been the worst at this in my experience.

This.

Most football violence these days is simply anti-social behaviour by moronic millennials, who our nans would have had for breakfast!

Its been said before SYP have their reasons for doing what they do but they do appear to be inept. From the numbers they employ on match day the netting off of the front rows upper and lower btw (proved ineffective again)the blocking off on BL exiting left the barriers holding back, using neighbouring forces etc etc. No accountability for any decisions or actions they take we are after all the lowlife that attends football and despite success in real life will always be considered thus.
Appear to be inept?? Sweeping statement...can’t do right for doing wrong it seems....

So Millwall, like Leeds, have a disproportionate amount of 'fans' who are determined to live up to their reputation as thuggish cunts. The vast majority of United fans just wanted to attend an important match, stick with their normal routine and get home safely. It was well-documented that this could be a 'high risk' game - hence the early kick-off. A large crowd and the importance of the game clearly indicated that some trouble could occur. So what went wrong? As ever, police 'intelligence' (now there's an oxymoron) decided that parading huge numbers (like outside The Bessemer on Leopold Street at 11.45 - a well-known route from Midland Station to Bramall Lane ), their latest bits of kit - hate walls, helicopters etc. - was more important that protecting the law-abiding majority. Protecting the public is their job (yes, I'm sure I've read that somewhere). So we had numerous incidents such as the Bramall Lane Spar getting stripped of booze while the coppers turned a blind eye, the (deliberate?) re-routing of the Millwall fans past The Sentinel, allowing Millwall fans straight onto Bramall Lane, the 'hate wall' on Bramall Lane which ensured that the Millwall fans would be coerced towards town, the St. Mary's underpass etc., bottle-throwing, injuries etc.
Either the coppers are fucking stupid or they encourage this behaviour to ensure future overtime.

I know which I go along with.

I was pretty close to the away end and from what I could make out a lot of Millwall had sore throats and were asking if we wouldn’t mind taking a walk with them to direct them to the nearest pharmacy?

Cannot believe this thread is still going I looked down from the box most of Millwall were OAPs and the rest looked like the cast from Shameless.

Likewise my view from the Westfield. These guys looked like they'd never seen a gym yet we're supposed to believe how "hard" they are.
Surely it wouldn't have been that difficult just once in the last 40 years if some Millwall fans who genuinely wanted to fight had managed to find their way onto London Road.
Much easier to put their caps at a jaunty angle and walk out of the station singing about no-one liking them (nobody caring to be more accurate), then bingo, a police escort for the rest of the day and a chance to act Billy Big B0llocks.

That’s true enough - they rivalled the dingles for the scruffiest, most desperate looking characters I’ve seen at the Lane. However, I can’t recall seeing so many missiles being thrown at Blades fans making their way home via St Mary’s Gate. The Millwall fans were protected by dozens of SYP who did fuck all to stop them throwing missiles.

Broke a window in the Sentinel.

One or two Blades in the car park made a profit from the coins they threw but wtf were the police doing bringing em all down Shoreham Street?

In fairness, I was sat outside the sentinel when they came past. Apart from some shouting they showed little interest until the 7 or 8 blade fans appeared from Mary St and took the standard arms out while gurning stance which triggered the response. When they'd gone past I had a word with the 20 something overweight leader of our boys to see if he was happy that they'd triggered a response resulting in a broken window, only to be told "Yeah, funny wonnit". Needless to say they then moved off without buying a drink. Tossers.

I did point this out to you lot in that thread where you lot were worrying about trouble.

Our allocation was 1,600 and all the tickets only made season ticket holders. I said that hardly any actual Millwall hooligans would make it; as demand for tickets was too high and not many came up for touting.

Plus, many would be keeping a low profile & not bothering with travelling up ticketless; as there was an actual meet with Bristol City in Bermondsey last week & someone in some flats filmed it & posted it on social media. Just being near a football ground with no ticket, but with previous re football violence, is a serious offence.

I used to live in Sheffield around 16 years ago; and I'm surprised, like you, at the amount of whinging going on about Millwall fans on here. I lived near Bramall Lane and drunk on London Road, and your lot were at it every home game pretty much back then. I was there that Tuesday night game when it all went off between Wall & BBC. And I hear that the BBC are still very active, in fact they've made an appearance actually in New Cross and Surrey Docks in recent years.

I could understand if you lot were Norwich City fans; but you are not. You support one of the worst clubs in the country for aggro. All this outrage at a non-event seems a bit odd to me.

I can also sense a bit of bravado underneath your digs. Used to see a lot of that when living Oooop north. Yorkshiremen are proper tough lads etc. etc. Zzzz. Your lot know, the OB know and anyone involved in FV knows that an actual turn out of Millwall would steam roller the BBC and OCS put together!

Who's serving who bravado fella? :D

Yes there's been some whinging but this is a general football forum, not a 'terrace culture' bum fest where everyone spouts off like your last paragraph.

I've been following this thread and your previous posts made some sense to the point where I was almost agreeing with you. Then you come out with a load of bollocks like this. Fuck knows who you're trying to impress, you're no different to the rest of that scummy mob when it comes down to it.

I just think it's all a load of nonsense.

Football violence is pretty much dead. It's mainly anti-social crap nowadays by idiots.

Look, it's just having lived in Sheffield I did find the whole northern bravado thing a bit boring after a while, I think it was once again on display here. I loved living in Sheffield, the city was great and the people nice and genuine. Great place. But, some did have a chip on their shoulder about this north v south divide. They went on and on about it. And I just think that some northerners cannot help bring it up - it was the same when I was in the RAF. All this northerners are 'working-class', tough, honest, etc. etc. And southerners are 'middle-class', soft, shandy drinking etc.

It miffed me especially, as my dad's family is from Kent and my mum's from London. My dad's side worked for the Kent Coalfield Company - the miners that didn't become scabs, unlike up in Barnsley (Kent miners went up to picket up there). And my mum's family worked on the Surrey Commercial Docks. Yet, northerners had in their head this weird north / south divide idea.

Anyways, I think we've reached a Cul-De-Sac now. You lot are bored of me no doubt; and I've got nothing else to say. Good luck for rest of the season & give the Leadmill a hello from me - if it's still going!

At least you've got it all off your chest now.

Good luck for the rest of the season.,

Not boring in the slightest, a perfect mic drop exit for a hard as nails 'Wall ;)

Having lived in various places in the South, trust me, Yorkshire accents get their fair share of 'thick int 'ead' stereotyping. Geordies take the piss as they don't even recognise Sheffield as Northern ..... we're English - parochialism is our thing.

Like I've maintained, should the unlikely not happen, i'd be hoping Millwall progress through PO's. Now grab a coffee, relax, and talk to Joyce in accounts about how Wall can wipe the floor with both Brizzle clubs boy's put together :D

The facade of a reasonable Millwall fan has crumbled.

You just can’t help yourself. It’s all about who is harder than who.
Fucking pathetic pal.

Mate, you've written some good stuff on here but that last paragraph, well you're better than that surely.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Don't think anyone is doubting that mate.

Some clubs just have more scum pro rata than others.

Proving what I already knew. Conforming to type like many do.

No goodwill from me. Fuck your poxy tinpot club full of sarf Landun scrubbers :)

No more pathetic sight in football than someone's Grandad wearing Stone Island giving it large amongst the group, when on his own he'd be complaining about his arthritis.
You can wear Stone Island they make quality gear but dont display the badge.
