Some interesting news floating around about Mr Verrips.

Looks like he's ruffled some feathers at KV Mechelen after he terminated his contract due to match fixing allegations against the club. Dutch media claiming that any club that employ him could see him being suspended and a future transfer ban imposed against them, as his termination of contract isn't valid (in the club's eyes).

Potentially messy, or just a club making noise

Couple of short articles (in Dutch, if on Chrome, just hit the dots in the top right hand corner and press translate)

He could probably just train with us whilst all this gets sorted and I assume we’d be ok to sign him as a free agent even after the window has closed?

Only problem is we’d obviously be running the risk that he can’t terminate his contract and we’re a keeper short until January.

Fingers like this fella.

Get him to shave his nut on zero, and get kicked in the gob a couple of times in training to re-arrange his teeth, and we have a seriously good plan at scaring the shit out of the PL forwards next seaaon.

What a pointless signing when we have a very good back up keeper anyway.
Use the wages for this guy to bump up mcburnie moneh.

Pointless ? We need at least 3 keepers (injury and ManUtd game cover). He’s 22, but has top flight experience. He’s a free transfer and will be on low wages. Don’t see the issue.
We have a very good goalie in the reserves.

Didn't realise he was at Oakwell on Saturday.

BLADES MONITORING VERRIPS BATTLE
Sheffield United
are continuing to monitor a legal battle in Belgium before making any potential move for Mechelen goalkeeper Michael Verrips.
The Belgian cup winner is in the UK and sat in the stands at Oakwell on Saturday as United beat Barnsley 4-1 in their penultimate pre-season friendly.
Lawyers acting on behalf of the Dutch-born keeper, believe his contract is now null and void after Mechelen club directors were found guilty of match-fixing.
In a statement last week, Verrips confirmed he believed he was now a free agent: “Under Belgian law I am now a player who is free to join any club.”
With just ten days of the summer window remaining, manager Chris Wilder will be keen to strengthen competition for the No 1 jersey following the return on loan of Dean Henderson.
However, Mechelen believe the player remains theirs – and that any club signing him risks a future transfer ban.

Don't like the sound of this risking a transfer ban lark

We have a very good goalie in the reserves.

I think Moore is a decent mid Championship 'keeper, I feel a bit sorry for him that we have outgrown him, but I just don't think he is Premier League quality. More importantly, CWAK think that as well. We need three 'keepers, especially as our number one is not actually ours, & Moore in my view is not going to be in goal in the two MU games so any 'keeper coming in will be on the basis he could by next season take over the number one spot.

Don't see how the match fixing sees his contract voided.
I guess it’s just like a player having his contract voided if is found guilty of an illegal act or bringing the club into disrepute. In this case the clubs actions have brought the player into disrepute (allegedly). A bit like Jose Baxter but in reverse.

I feel sorry for the guy, quitting becaise his old team rigged matches, seems like a guy with some integrity. Now, he's maybe losing the chance to play in the prem and a guaranteed match vs Man Utd.
