Badger clearing from the right across field to Currie on the left who literally knocked the ball sixty yards right on to the right foot of Woody who left two defenders in his slipstream then he would either lift the perfect cross onto players like Tudor or Addisons head or pull back where Salmons or TC would bury it. Saw many games like this and many times TC and Woody would rip Man Ur's and the like defences to shreds. When we arrived at Away grounds first things opponents fans would say is Currie and Woodward playing. Awesome partnership and great people as well

Never had the pleasure being a bit before my time. Nice memories there originaltrueblade , but I ask you, if we were that good, how come we still never won anything? I mean the high points really were an unbeaten run in 71/72, when we were top of the league and then fell away after that famous game at Old Trafford and then in 74/75 when we missed out on European Qualification by something like one point. In between, there were mid-table finishes and a frankly awful record in the cups.

Simple no real reserves to bring in if anyone got injured

I clearly remember Currie being a thoroughly miserable bastard at an Open Day in 1999 as I went to get my shirt signed.

TC sold to pay for South Stand he didn't even know he was being sold. I've always found Tony to be a down to earth lad from Watford. Never seen a better player. It's not just me I can hear the Kop singing Tony Tony Currie still with everyone on the Kop raising their arms in unison with the obligatory scarf tied to the wrist of course. He wasn't a good player he was one of the greatest players that ever kicked a football even the supporters from S6 admired him

wherever i go in the country.. if i get talking to people of a similar age the conversation goes..
who do you support?..sheffield united.. fucking hell.. Tony Currie.. what a player
actually Woody was my favourite.. he went grey earlier than his years and wore these weird boots that had achilles protectors on them (Eddie C. had them as well) ..he looked like an old bloke (he was late 20's by then). i was once on the Lane end (someone thought it would be a good idea to get a different view of the ground!) and we played Newcastle. their fans were scoffing at Woody in the warm up.. 'who is the old bloke'.. after about fifteen minutes they were checking their programs for the line up. 'who's that number 7?? he's fookin' brilliant man' :D

mickey speight testamonial tc passed the ball 40 yds to alex sabella who trapped it in one movement slid it thru on a plate to duggie brown who smashed it into row z of bramall lane stand .tc and alex just looked at each other shook their heads.shear class/:)

I was brought up a lad in arms on stories such as these!

I remember spending weekends sat on my grandad's lap with my head in a newspaper that he was reading....No matter what match or player we read about, it always ended up back at Sheffield United and the legends who had worn the shirt!

"That bloke could land a football on a golf tee, from one end of the pitch to the other"

And the infamous corner kicks as well....

Shouldn`t mention them in the same sentence. Beckham - no left foot , no real pace, couldn`t tackle, couldn`t head it, lucky to have exceptional players around him. TC - talisman, carried the team, made others look good, wonderful natural talent, I`m lucky to have seen his career. Beckham might have been a poor man`s someone, but not comparable in any way to TC.

I wonder if we'll be fondly remembering Deane's goals or Bradders giving 'psycho' Pearce nightmares in the same way, in a few years time.

i always thought David Beckham , was a poor mans Tony Currie .

Not being funny, or exaggerating but Beckham wasn't fit to stand in Curries shadow. Beckham could hit a decent free kick, can't remember him being a world beater at much else. Steady player, great ambassador for the game as he got older, but nowt special. Currie changed many matches for us with his controlling of the game. He could control a football, shimmy past a player and hit passes with tremendous accuracy, ride a tackle, hit a decent shot, tackle when he needed to etc. etc....

I might sound bias but I saw it with my own eyes. The man will always be a football legend to me. I thought he was a marvelous footballer.

TC is a cunt. Wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire. Likes to knock his lass about and bully kids.
Gave it the "do you know who I am" line to me once. He's Blue to thank that I didn't knock him out on the spot.
Cretin of the highest order.
Not fit to wipe Keith's boots.

^ Not fit to wipe Keith's boots on is spot on!

TC really is the epitome of never meet your heroes, a miserable fuck of the highest order! As a footballer he was second to none but as a person my experience in his presence was less than stellar, left me really fucking torn over him! Now that I read that he knocks women around and bullies kids he can go fucking do one! I know this is a forum and talk is cheap but if this is true it boils my blood.....I hate bullies with a passion
I deal with fucksticks like this on a regular basis in my job and if any of them make the mistake of thinking I have tits and a vagina and ave a pop they get the old fucking one, two for their troubles....next time I'm just gonna Imagine TC's face and enjoy it just a little bit more.

Blokes that hit women and are bullies are just cunts of the highest order and if you know one you owe it to them to set em straight!

TC is a backstage turd at the lane these days and needs to fuck right off......I sincerely aplogise for my language!

Its well documented.
Read the police reports.
Grade A coward that I've wiped from my clubs history.

we missed out in Europe by one point?

Don't understand, are you asking me or telling me?
Anyway my response was that even before we'd sold Currie or decided to financially ruin ourselves by building the SS, in other words, pre-1973, we still hadn't won anything, well at least since 1925. (unless you want to count 'League North Champions' in 1945)

I'm all for reminiscing about our former great players and characters but let's not kid ourselves they were world-beaters. I always hear the phrase 'on their day' in relation to the Blades team of the 60's and 70's. All that tells me is that they were very inconsistent and often played below par.

Was listening to Dallaglio and Hastings reminiscing on the rugby yesterday. Dallaglio laughed as he said "yeah, the older we get, the better we were". Tudor, Addison & Salmons combined scored about as many as Billy has in the past two seasons. Salmons in particular scored next to fuck all.

Not trying to put a dampener on the OP, they were good times but lets not get carried away lads!

I don't like to speak ill of the Blades favourite son, however my dad is a fair judge of people and he did some decorating at TC's house in the early 70's and said he was an arrogant c*nt.

yeah well obviously they were never up with Liverpool but they were better than anything i've seen in my lifetime.. i can only go on that
they were and still are the best team we've had since 1925

or Arsenal, Leeds, Derby, Man City.....

I know what you're saying though, the football that team played (on it's day) was far better than Blades side since.

Beg to differ. The early Harris team of Hodgkinson, Coldwell, G Shaw, Richardson etc etc was a class above. If Currie had been around 10 years earlier we would have won the league with that lot.
