can we off load those bloody waste of space so called footy clubs we have on our books????

Haven't we known about this rule for a couple of seasons?
This isn't a surprise, all new rule we weren't expecting.

we must have a bit of give and take considering this rule is only 2 years old. As per the post from Foxy we can see all big earners will be gone by 2013 but mostly there is nothing we can do to get rid of them until then?

Can anyone answer this question regards turnover? It's purely hyperthetical:

The question revolves around how a club might increase it's turnover and therefore be able to increase it's player wage bill pro-rata

What is to stop a rich club chairman for example, through one of his own companies, from coming to a sponsorship agreement with the club that far exceeds the boundaries of normality/reasonability?

An example of this, maybe that a private sponsorship deal between one of said chairmans companies and the club, which should amount to say £200k, is actually struck which pays the club £3m, effectively increasing it's income/turnover, resulting in the club being able to have a higher wage bill and ultimately a back door way of seeking an advantage over other clubs

Is this a loophole? Illegal? or am I just being plain ignorant to the fact that the process is open abuse?

I asked this on BladesMad and someone replied to look no further than ManCity and the owners sponsorship of the ground renaming it Ethihad Stadium.

What did the deal come to? Was it £200m thrown into the clubs koffers?

Cheers

Well as we all know, modern football is bent not what it was. I'm sure there are all sorts of creative shenanigans being conceived by football chairmen up and down the land as we speak.......

McCabe could slap "Scarborough International Group" on all the Training Kits and call it a Sponsorship deal worth £9,000,000 a season.

Thus paying the wage bill again and pissing off the Football League at the same time.

I'm not sure how the rules work, but you would think the Football League will have thought of this and put measures in to stop this sort of thing wouldn't you?

This is just like the third party ownership thing....Tevez....murky waters.

If my Company could afford a £200M/year sponsorship deal with the The Blades how could the FA, EUFA or FIFA stop it?

Exactly my point!

Would it be illegal?

Is it allowed?

Is it a loophole?

There are so many rich chairman out there that could front a sponsorship deal with their own clubs and pump millions into it with an over inflated deal to increase turnover

On the way into the Stevenage play off game there was some bloke from Sheffield Hallam Uni on about UEFA FFP, and he was saying that Etihad had paid £400m up front for naming rights and shirt sponsorship for, I forget how many seasons. He also made the point that basically it protects the big clubs who have already had their rich owners pump in the cash and basically prevents anybody coming through the divisions.

As soon as man city did that platini said they were going to look out for teams finding other ways of pumping money in and bending the rules
If real Madrid sell their training ground to the local council for £100m who then give it them back as a gift this doesn't. Concern Monsieur platini but anything involving English clubs is obviously a different matter

Leeds, who recently brought in a manager whose admiration for Monty is second only to Frank Lampard?

We have said that everytime Warnock goes to a new club.

Funny how he would rather sign Derry everytime and I reckon Derry will end up at L**ds again.

We will still have the largest turnover in this division yes we will have to cut but we still will be able to spend more than a lot of other clubs.
Do you really think most other clubs have wage structures in line with the fair play rules already ?

Totally agree on this... However, we're still paying too much on individual wages as opposed to having a Decent sized squad. Ched, willo, Quinn, monty, macca, Cresswell, BT will all be earning too much, perhaps meaning that we could get 3 players for one of each of them.

We have to be sensible, bulk the squad out and get competition for places so that when we lose a ched or a macca for weeks, we have a competent replacement and avoid a monty for macca or o'halloran for ched scenario.

The problem we had with ched and Cresswell being so good was that BT, porter, o'halloran, Hoskins all had to warm the bench and couldn't get the match time, so when the superstars get injured, we have nobody ready to step in. I'm not saying that we need to drop inform players or have a billy sharp/ ched scenario where they get 1 game to score and then someone else comes in. However, we need a balance. Danny Wilson has immense faith in his starting 11, rarely changes things too much which breeds a tight unit. But it means that players on the bench get stale and the whole team then takes time to adapt to changes.

Is it better to have a striker who scores 36 or 3 that score 12 each...

How many of them are up on rape charges?

If anyone thinks we're certs for automatics next season, they're going to be in for a surprise. These UEFA fair play rules aren't good news, and coupled with wage budget reduction, it's going to leave us no doubt with a weaker squad.
these fair play rules will only apply untill spammers are down there, then tricky trev will get his mates to change the rules.

I have had a brainwave......

Assuming our average gates our say, 18,000 next year, if we all put £1 in a bucket each home game we would make £36,000 each month and could give this to the club by way of a donation.

S24SU members could be charged with collecting buckets.

Members could also have some say in what money was spent on. Which players were signed wages, perhaps even make some suggestions. A monthly meeting with DW.

I would be the chief executive and charge a modest £6,000 a month, net of course.

Who's up for this idea?

Would this be some form of 3rd party ownership, are we getting some profit on our squids?

Hmmm, I don't think that is allowed in the rules, thinking back to the Tevez affair.

theres going to be some major cooking of the books at some clubs I think. Would much prefer a system like the premier league say 25 players and then under 21's maybe have two or three windows that you can swap players about

The thing is 99% of league clubs will need to trim the budgets who's to say we can get rid of the high earners they may well end up having to take pays cuts ( boo hoo welcome to the real world I'm sure you won't starve ). I think there may be more players on the market than takers over the summer until wages come down to a sensible level.
Best thing UEFA has ever done as far as I'm concerned

The cynical side of me suggests that not all clubs will abide by the new financial restictions.

Maybe, but what an opportunity to get back to grass roots level and look to unearth some talent rather than sign a load of well paid has beens. Time for the so called football experts among the club scouts to earn their corn for a change, is there another Brian Deane out there anyone?
