Mcburnie

How can he not be a progressive signing if he improves the squad?
Because it would, in theory, be going backwards. But just a poorly chosen word anyway. Not a long term signing is kind of what I meant. McBurnie would suit this system (good player)... But unfortunately he was injured so much and divided the fanbase in multiple ways.

The more I think about it, I was really quite surprised when he left and I'll be genuinely pleased if he comes back. As long as we're not on too tight a wage budget for numerous other incomings.

not for me either a step backwards imo like cannon but think awoyonmi from forest is very interesting if we could get him

More chance of shitting gold than getting Taiwo Awoniyi
This...100% plus Florist wouldn't entertain any interest from us anyway!

Given Wilders history for signing "journeymen" strikers to see us through, (Hanson, Madine, Hogan) I personally couldn't think of anyone better than McBurnie who is a) available and b) affordable.

Who is a step forward? I keep hearing of players we shouldn’t go for, but who is the realistic alternative who offers the same ability but is younger/cheaper/fitter/more long term?

He’s a billion times better than Moore so in no way is it a step backwards. Moore needs binning off this January. See if Hull still wants him would be my first step

Taiwo's injuries and games missed in the last couple of years. Looks as injury prone as Oli.

If his Mrs and kid went with him to the Canary Islands, I'd be very surprised to see them move back to Sheffield during the winter! Surely the lifestyle (and 22c sunny weather) is preferable right now?!

I know there's a lot more factors involved here but I know where I'd rather be!

Anyone who wouldn't want McBurnie back must be crackers in my view. He'd add a lot to this team in both boxes not to mention the atmosphere created with him back. Also would we rather he join are rivals instead?!
Get what you are saying but I was hoping we would change our style, by maybe signing a athletic pacy forward like most other modern sides have rather than just lumping it forward for someone to hold it up.
But I realise it's Sheffield United and we'll probably get there 10 years behind everyone else.

We already have Moore for that role but we play some really nice possession based football these days and remember Mcburnie was at his best playing for Swansea who are hardly kick and rush.

I totally agree a pacey string type would be great but maybe there's not as many of them around that are available and we can afford?

Yep. McBurnie's best performances for us were when he had someone to link up with (Ndiaye, Mcatee).
In his Swansea days they played with out and out wingers which meant he ended up with lots more chances, resulting in a better goal to game ratio.

He's a lot better with the ball than most gave him credit for.
Certainly a shit load better at link up play than our current number 9.

Unfortunately the majority of Ol's career with us were either spent not fully fit or used as a born again Jon Parkin type lump up front, isolated.

I'd prefer us to go in a different direction (someone more mobile and pacey), but if Ol comes back I'll still be pretty satisfied.
Mainly just because it'll hopefully see Moore drift into the background.

Moore + McBurnie= No pace. We lack proper pace all over the pitch The other night highlighted that.
If we sign Mcburnie it's not certain he'd play alongside Moore but possibly instead of Moore. We're also been linked with various wingers which is where the pace will most likely be alongside Brooks and JRS.

McBurnie's Winter Appearances.
Nov to March

19/20 - 9 out of 19
20/21- 7 out of 22
21/22 - 3 out of 19
22/23 - 7 out of 19
23/24 - 4 out of 18

The guy has winter off every year and would be a terrible January signing.

At first I thought they were goals and wondered what you were moaning for 🤣

If the new owners have serious ambitions of making us into an established Premier League club, such aspirations must surely demand, pacey, athletic, hungry, young strikers with long term potential and a sell on value?

If McBurnie is even on their radar, I would be very disappointed. As I also would if they’re not looking to shift out Keiffer Moore this month.

Not for me.

He was always injured or suspended, and when he actually played his goal per game ratio was very poor.

I don't want him back.

For those saying we should get him back, removing your ex Bladey Bladeness for a minute

Would you want this striker to solve your lack of goals?

Least he’s cut out the cards

this would be like bringing Grbic back cos Coopers let a few in recently 😂
