I think it’s likely but as Wilder mentioned in one of his interviews ( I think on Friday) - clubs will be negotiating a hard deal - hence the noise in the press supposedly from Las Palmas saying not for sale at the moment. However, make no mistake they will want to cash in with a good cash deal or loan to buy deal & possibly get a replacement in first. If McBurnie is not getting in their squad - the writing is on the wall- but also McBurnie’s agent will also be driving a hard bargain. January is a shit time to be doing deals….but we have no choice.

To have offered him a contract, it gets turned down, he leaves, and then United buy him back from another club 6 months after he left.... seems like a total waste of money. I liked McBurnie more so than a lot on here did, and I can still see his merits, but I think we need to forget about this one now unless it's a 'bargain' to bring him back. There are others players out there who will do a decent job for us if we look hard enough. I'm sure we have other targets.

Yep. There's no way Wilder won't have watched what they did at times in the PL and thought 'if only I could get these 2 together again next season'. He won't give up on the possibility easily this window

I would only take him back on a loan basis. I think that he would increase our chances of automatic promotion markedly. The same can be said for BBD, who will carry on where he left off with us.

At the moment, unless an absolute bargain/once in a decade opportunity presents itself, acquiring players on a short term basis for as little as possible, to gain promotion should be our only consideration.

The story I was told was that McB had a wage calculation in his contract renewal clause that was initiated before the start of last season that meant that he was one of the highest players at the club. It meant a more than doubling of his wage, and was based upon the number of goals he scored & us getting promotion. He did very well out of it, and probably pushed him to a wage that certain people at the club thought was above his market value.

His Agent's starting point for the negotiation on his new deal was a continuation of the PL wage, but in the championship, with the same increase mechanism if we got promoted and he scored a certain number of goals.

Worst case, we couldn't afford/weren't prepared to pay that as an ongoing wage in the championship and best case, it presented a level of wage that if we got promoted we felt could get a better level of player for.

I suspect his view was that this was a new deal & any wage/signing on fee was in the absence of a full transfer fee, where as we probably took the view that we'd overpaid/paid full value for him already during his time with us.

Why? How many goals do you think he would have compared to Moore? How many shit penalties would he have taken and free headers would he miss, like Moore has. I agree. I also think that the club was also doing what it needed to do in trying to cut its cloth after relegation and knowing it needed a huge turnover in players.

If McBurnie was on £20k a week (I believe that was pretty much confirmed as being his basic before he left), the club offering him £12k a week having gone back into the Championship with a promotion charge very much not on the cards this season, was i think, a perfectly acceptable offer bearing in mind the time he hasn't been available to us for various reasons. Of course, he was well within his rights to look about, but unless we have offered and then withdrawn a contract offer then I don't see where the 'club mucking him about' thing comes from. We made him an offer, he thought he could get more elsewhere. That's it really.

I’m sure the offer was based on what the club thought it could afford versus what they thought he was worth.

He got what he thought was a better offer - can’t blame him for taking it.

I didn’t say the club had mucked him about at all. I said we reportedly offered him a new deal on 40% less than he was before. He looked around as he was perfectly entitled to do and found a deal that at the time suited himself and his family better. What I do not understand is people slagging off McBurnie for not signing the contract. If my work turned round and said you can stay but on 40% less I’d be having a look round as well. He didn’t do anything wrong where as there’s plenty of people on the forums / social media slagging him off for leaving.
