There's yer answer, beebee. Spend a relaxing afternoon in the pub!

Must admit, I'm glad it's off for a number of reasons:
  • It would have fucked the pitch up for Sunday/rest of season
  • It is vile out there (think 'Trawlermen' on Dave) and no fun for the fans

  • We'd have lost

need to invest in some better covers

Like these?

I think the technical term is "piss wet through"

The pic i put is villa it covers the whole pitch surely that must work, don't find many prem games off

Villa is a Desso pitch (hybrid, so the standard turf is woven with artificial) which has been investigated previously for the Lane... The problems being cost and having to re-lay the pitch.

That's true, but there are other considerations. When it's snowing/icy, it doesn't matter what the pitch is like, if the surrounding pavements are lethal. And when the weather is totally shit like today, a lot of people will think 'sod this' and stay at home.

The PL is different because they are awash with money, can afford effective pitch protection and are so in TVs pocket, they daren't call off a game if it's due on telly.

Nowt new in games being called off. It would have been a shambles tonight (think Fulham at home x 5). Surprisingly, I haven't heard the usual cuckoo-calls for a winter break yet!

Looking at the weather forecast for tonight (very strong winds) I fear for the safety for those going to watch the Premiership games. Glad our match is off

I wouldn't call for a complete winter break... but I would look at how the season is arranged at our level.

I'd extend the season by a week which would open up Mayday bank holiday as a potential matchday as well as an extra weekend. I'd make the fixtures people try and factor in as many midweeks in August, September and April as they need to.... possibly leaving some weekends free in February/March to fit in bad weather ties.

I'd bin off the Johnstone's paint... or at least have the first round before the FL season starts to treat it as a bit of a pre-season.

And as for play-offs... sack them off completely.

Agreed about fixturing in extra matchdays midweek during early months of season. There is always a problem this time of year and then a rush of fixtures at the end. Makes no sense to have 'fallow' weeks early on when could move some midweek fixtures from this time of year back to then.

I'm sure the arguments are that "people are on holiday" but it's a bit tough. I'd rather be sitting in BDTBL in an August evening than a February one!

The ones I feel sorriest for are the poor buggers in Somerset - not because they're up to their arse in water, it's just that since the Thames flooded yesterday, suddenly it's a disaster

Walthy Alert
When you see the idyllic site next to the river where these houses nay villas are situated you just think thats Karma.
