Dont think its a replacement for norwood its back up for the midfield 3!

My interpretation, which I think is the same as others have seen it..

A goalkeeper signing looks the Number 1 priority. We have cover in Verrips & Moore.

George Baldock will start at RWB again, but we are targeting cover for him (circle underneath - cover, circle above - upgrade).

Targetting a new player for RCB, with Chris Basham becoming cover for that position, RWB & DCM (see arrows coming from his initials).

John Egan will be first choice central defender again, oddly there is no cover underneath him.

Jack O'Connell will start at LCD again. It looks like we're targeting cover for him.

Enda Stevens will start at LWB with Ben Osborn as cover.

An upgrade on Ollie Norwood is being targeted. Ollie Norwood will become cover for his position.

John Lundstram will start at RCM. We are targeting a cover player for him that can also cover the McGoldrick role (see arrows).

John Fleck will start at LCM with Luke Freeman covering.

No new strikers are being targeted. Mousset, Robinson, McBurnie & McGoldrick feature.

Notable absentees: K Freeman, P Jagielka, R Stearman, R Morrison, B Sharp, L Clarke.

The writing on the board is Wilder's. Its the same writing as seen in the transfer deadline day video he appeared in. Interesting.

We're dangerously low in midfield when you see that. An injury, or two could really derail our season. That is where we need to spend in January in my opinion.

I hope the meeting started by saying -

1) The first item on the agenda , Chris how much salary do you want ?

We could look on this optimistically......there are currently no plans to cash in on any of our “best players”🤔

Think his list gives us 22 players? Probably keep 3 on - or bring 3 more in. Looks like it's a Summer wish-list so maybe cover for JE will come this January window?

Perhaps there's a wealth of information on that chart that's hidden by Chris's head 😂

Really dumb posting that picture up. The first thing I did was zoom in on that whiteboard, same with others. Can see it doing more harm, than good.
I'd be astounded if the players concerned weren't already aware. Norwood, Lundstram, Baldock and the back three will know there's no real competition in the current squad so they should expect to be challenged for their place over the next 18 months. What Wilder will expect, however, is that any new signings earn their place.

As I posted earlier, the players whose initials don't appear shouldn't be a huge surprise:
  • Kieron Freeman, Jagielka, Morrison, Clarke, Stearman: contracts expire in June, won't be offered an extension
  • Bryan: can't get near the first team, we'll be trying to move him out even if it's on loan
  • Sharp: will be 5th choice at best: Wilder operates a 2-to-each-position system.

10 months is a very long time in football. Today’s flip chart plans are august’s chip papers.
Cant see them giving away any trade secrets probably a planned exercise .
Wont do players any harm to know they could be replaced , probably aware anyway.
Wilder has said more than once : He is not sentimental :.
It has to be that way as we would stagnate and go backwoods otherwise.

So does SB and the 2 other players fit into this flip chart? 🤔

Everyone's saying that, but I see it more as Fleck, Berge, Besic/Lunny. Can't see why Berge would play on the right.... Correct me if I'm wrong?

He looks predominantly right-footed on the YouTube video that’s doing the rounds (although comfortable using his left foot too).

Lundstram hasn’t maintained his outstanding early season form.
Besic has looked better than Lundstram recently but still one of the weaker links (could have been sent off for a clumsy challenge against Man City, nearly hauled off v Millwall before his goal).

Right-midfield is the most obvious position where we can upgrade massively without disrupting the settled team that has got us to 8th.
That’s the way I see it.
I guess we will find out what Wilder thinks soon enough.
(Berge will probably start as a sub on Saturday and what an incentive for Besic and Norwood to perform)

The insistence he’ll be right of the midfield three reminds me of when Egan signed and plenty suggested he’d be replacing Basham rather than Stearman. From what I’ve seen of him on all the clips this week, and read about him from reports looking at his strengths, he seems most suited to Norwood’s deeper role, and regardless of where he starts I suspect this is where he will ultimately settle for us. Look back on the board and this is what seems to be Wilder’s thinking for next season too – Bash & Norwood to become back-up to new players in their positions. In contrast, for the right Wilder has marked backup for Lundstram rather than someone for Lundstram to be backup to.

This could be old information though. But I think Wilder has been on the lookout for someone special to take on the Norwood position given how well Norwood has done, and we’ve now possibly just signed that person.

You could be right and Norwood’s might be Berge’s position in the future. It is such an important position the way he covers the centre backs, I’m not sure it’s a position to change at the moment. I think he’ll play right mid at the moment and see how it goes.

Berge won't be on the bench. Wilder will play him alongside Fleck and Norwood especially as since Lundstram has been acting Billy big bollocks with his contract demands. And who would you drop out of Norwood and Lundstrom? Definitely not Norwood. Berge and Lunny won't play in the same team.

I really can't see Berge as a direct replacement for Norwood unless we are changing our 'overlapping centre back' strategy, which is heavily reliant on a deep lying midfielder sitting in, rather than striding forward.

Think it would be more of a tweak than a big change tbh. He seems to have done the tempo-setting deep-lying role already before. But where Norwood attempting to move with the ball (generally losing possession as a result), Berge could do both.

I shared this on the Berge thread, but worth a read:https://link.medium.com/dfnC9RNkC3

“He often sat deep in deeper buildup between the centre backs and dictated play from there, as the ball progressed up the pitch so did he as he would join the midfield and was constantly involved in play.”

Also, I’d argue to play either Lundstram or Fleck’s positions you have to be good at pressing or intercepting, which doesn’t seem to be Berge’s game (though these stats may be reflective of how he’s been asked to play rather than how he is capable of playing)

Personally I believe that Berge is so good that the rest of the team will have to adapt to him, rather than the other way round. We have to make the most of him, because I really don't see him being here for more than a couple of seasons.

Isn't CW just creating a another team, mostly and currently regarded as "back-up" but most of the so called "back-up squad" are young and improving players, all of these will be pushing for first team places next season as the first team squad begin to age ie Basham, or just prove not good enough for the journey Wilder is taking us on.

Manchester United always adopted this policy of having a young back-up squad ready to step into the first team at any given moment
In Fergies latter years they failed in this regard, that is why they are where they are now, having to start from scratch, whether they just didn't have the quality or it was just shortsightedness from the management team ? it would now appear so.

Back on topic! I think we are now copying that blueprint of having a back-up squad ready to step up at any given moment and giving momentum for future years of having players that know each other and have played together albeit as back-up.
