It is going to be very difficult to leave him out after that. I'm old-school enough to love seeing a big, dominant CF bullying defenders but what's interesting was to compare that performance with eg Darius Henderson: the general intelligence of his link-up play (that lovely lay-off for the first), the fact that he isn't constantly giving away niggling fouls. I'm struggling to think of a better 'big CF' display since the days of Deane and Fjortoft.

You can't tell much from how players are with each other when you are spanking opponents 4-0 but he does look genuinely popular with the other players as well. All in all, you would have to say he's turning out to be a superb signing.

If ever there was a player you would never, ever expect to roll up at BDTBL it was Gary Madine, "Pantomime Villain" doesn't even begin to describe his reputation with our fans, and as Chris Wilder rightly said, it took some big balls for him to come here.

For some reason, he always liked Sheffield United, even as a pig player, he used to come and watch us play, The Sheffield Star even did a piece about that (from memory), where I think he said he was always looking to learn how to be a better footballer and wanted to see why Ched was on fire, how did he play, what was behind the great run of goals. He also turned up at a couple of under 23's games I attended,

There was a strong rumour, towards the end of his time at the Pigs, that he wanted to join us, and his agent made overtures to the club, seeing if a move could happen. I heard that from one lad who was fairly ITK and gave me other info that came to fruition.

He doesn't have pace (we have Hogan for that), but everything else about his total game yesterday was outstanding. Not just the goals but his team play, you could see he desperately wanted Hogan to score as well, continually looking to put him through on goal.

Finally, he got a hug from Billy, CW and AK, and that is good enough from me.

Tin hat on here, but it's going to take more than a couple of goals and a few cameo appearances to win me over. I'm not so fickle as to forget that he's shown a genuine dislike and disdain for our club and our captain in the past, even if he has scored a couple today.

The lads may be starting to accept him and that's good, I wouldn't want anyone upsetting our rhythm, I've nowt against them starting to accept him.

But for me, unpopular opinion or not, the jury's still out and it'll take a bit more than a bit of decent hold up play to forget he broke one of our fan's jaws. Without him we still win 2-0.

Didn't know that about him coming to watch us. Very interesting and ties in with his comments about us when he signed. I wonder if wanted to come to watch Billy as well. He's a bit like a Gladiator stepping into the arena with the crowd and the leader pleased or displeased, he lives of dies. Wilder definitely wants him to live.

Analogy aside, putting in a performance like that yesterday shows what he's got about him. He's played alongside Billy, McG and Hogan now and he looks to be able to create chances for Billy and Hogan with his play, his movement and his physicality.

Its no wonder he got a standing ovation yesterday. His attitude on the pitch in a red and white shirt has been absolutely spot on. You know as well that he'll step up when the pressure is on. He won't hide.

One thing my piggy mate asked, "do you think he's grown up?" Time will tell at the End of season/ promotion party i guess, but he looks a mature player on the pitch. Just gets on with the game, particularly in the game against Villa he was getting into some right tussles and didn't react

I’ve never questioned your right to opinions Pinchy mate just the fact you’re slightly intolerant of anyone who disagrees. It’s perfectly possible for two people to watch or see the same thing and draw different conclusions. In their own mind both can believe they’re right. That’s why we have debate to rationally discuss and test our theories without slipping into name calling and abuse to anyone who disagrees.


The issue on here is the “rationally” bit and I guess most of us fall into that trap at times.

I got asked a question on FB by a piggy mate (i have lots of banter with him, but he's been very impressed with us recently and is also a big fan of Wilder) when i posted a comment congratulating Madine on his first goal. He said, "I thought you hated him"

My reply was simple, I did. But with Madine, its entirely understandable that he's not liked as a person more than a player. He's had a career littered with issues and he was, for want of a better word, a twat in the eyes of those that don't know him. The courts pretty much called him this when he had a drink.

On the pitch and off it whilst he was at the Pigs and then when we had our brief League 1 battle with Bolton, he hadn't changed, said and did things which pissed us off....

Yet he went to Cardiff and worked with a manager that puts high demands on players for hard work.

I've wanted him since he ran us ragged vs Bolton. Not seen a single player in a poor side dominate a game like he did that day. Reproduced it yesterday only in a good side. Won everything in the air, cleared the 6 yard box twice in defence, assisted in 1, started the first move and scored 2. Sorry Kozzy_is_my_Dad its not a given we would have scored 2 without him. We might have scored 4 if Billy had been on. I'm just glad we've got him for run in, just hope he's not injured himself when he stretched for that tackle. Was just in front of us and he looked in some discomfort.

My only concern is he does a KMc on us.

The irony is that its not games against Reading where we will need him, . Reading were poor yesterday, like Bolton, i think we'd have got a good win against them with our 33 goal partnership on the field.

However, but its games against Reading where he also shows his worth to us. That performance yesterday was rounded and professional, not just from Madine but front to back and on the bench.

On a day where Norwich and WBA both got decent wins, that level of performance against a poor side was important. Freeman coming back in after being on the sidelines and Madine and Hogan stepping up and every player leaving it out there on the pitch was what we needed after a recent run of tough games.

Clean sheet as important as 4 goals and the reaction from Wilder in his post match interview really made me smile.

In just a couple of games he’s proved himself a class above Darius bastard Henderson. Intelligence, touch, temperament, work rate.

I honestly couldn't care less about the things he's said about us. It's nothing fans wouldn't say about other clubs and none of it was so bad it couldn't pass for typical stupid drunken banter. His criminal record, on the other hand, I have a problem with. And I'm not against people changing, it's just it takes a long time to undo the reputation he built for himself. First sign he's still got his old ways and I'm all for giving up on him here.

I do, however, owe him a small apology because I've definitely underestimated his footballing ability. That performance on Saturday was that of a complete striker. Good in the air, good with his feet, far more than Reading could handle.

I hold my hands up & admit I was against him coming here, based mainly on his off field antics, bad press & being ex pig. I am certainly not now thinking he has suddenly turned into the Archangel Gabriel, but if the players & staff can accept him then I guess so can I. He certainly looks better than I thought he was & scoring 2 yesterday will have done wonders for his confidence, & if him being in the team improves our chances of promotion then I am happy to get behind him.
