I’ve been a Lunny fan since day one! So ner ner ner ner ner
Were we wrong though?..We were mainly saying he couldn't play the Coutts role, certainly I was...anybody could see he had a long pass, good physicality,a potential goal threat from distance, and maybe something to offer further down the line.
I'll take my slice though,i didn't think he'd nail down a regular place in the Prem...fair play to the lad.
ricky (?) nearly wasLet's be honest, if anyone had suggested, this time last season, that Lundstram would replace Duffy, and in the Premier league, they'd have been hounded out of town and committed, wearing a straight jacket.
I've said similar before so not quite ready to take my dose yet. Lundstram isn't a replacement for Coutts or Duffy, he's suited to playing in a flat 3 which has served us well in establishing ourselves so far this season. 10/10 so far. However, our limitations in midfield are patently obvious as we are unable to hold possession for more than 2 passes at a time, which in turn puts undue pressure on the back. There has to be a point though when Wilder decides to assert ourselves on a match and he'll be looking for a bit more quality in midfield than what we have now.
So far then, its about right with Lundstram but we have to move forward with our midfield options at some stage if we are to progress.
I'm disappointed we sold him for the fee we did, and am not remotely surprised he is so well thought of at Everton - he was outstanding at academy level. If the fee allows Wilder to strengthen substantially in January - and we get promotion as a result,- it'll have been worth it: I think he is still a year or two from being ready to mix it consistently in the senior game, and we already have good options at this level.
Plays a bit like Michael Carrick. Excellent passer of the ball.
Let's hope so. However the top clubs don't miss anything or anyone. They didn't need to watch today's game to learn about David Brooks.
Our best player since he became a permanent fixture in the side. It has been obvious for anyone who watches and analyses the games - with no prejudices.
Agree with your assessment apart from your view of Lundstram. He's been the best midfielder we've added this season by some distance - has done far more than Evans thus far. Still all toplay for though, Preston and Boro have to come to the Lane, and we have to go to Bristol City. We also have players to return from injury to bolster us.
Been excellent seen he came to the club. There's only three Blades players with more technical ability than him, and none with the passing range. This was apparent to the naked eye after his first couple of games.I agree that he needs to get fitter, and that he is is somewhat hampered by his mobility. It's frightening how good he could be next season.
Two great goals, and a fine through ball for Clarke represents an excellent night's work. Overall I find myself wanting more from Evans though. He lacks consistency in his performances: excellent one game and pretty poor the next; to the extent I can't believe it's the same player. To be fair, we were warned by Wolves fans that this was the case. I think he has the technical ability, and regular Championship games under an excellent management team should only help him. He's a young 23 in terms of regular games played - it's easy to forget that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Evans_(footballer)
Not sure what people are watching, when they think he's been better than Lundstram in his Blades career so far though...
Paul Coutts was a busted flush before Wilder's first pre season.John Fleck was seen as lazy by Coventry fans. Jack O'Connell was too slow and top heavy for the Championship - according to Brentford fans. Leon Clarke arrived at United needing a minor operation, and didn't really get going properly until his second season and first full pre season. He's never been as energic and hard working anywhere, and he's in the twilight years of his career.Mark Duffy was completely revolutionised into a high pressing, hard working pivot in the Wilder team. The man who wins the ball high up the pitch.John Lundstram looks heavy and visibly tires after an hour of every game. It's likely that he was managing himself through games last season, conserving energy. They are not used to playing at the intensity required in a Blades set up.I'm also looking forward to seeing Baldock with a full, uninterrupted pre season behind him.Wilder was full of praise for Holmes in his interview the other day after, I think, slagging off his fitness, work rate and effort in training last year ("not doing enough").United haven't had as good an off field fitness setup since Tony Daley in the Warnock era.It can make all the difference in turning a good player into an excellent one at this level. It's also another reason to get signings in as early as possible.
Technically he's extremely proficient. His passing range is superb, although he's more likely to give away a short one than a long one.Mobility is the issue. This can only be compensated by superb reading of the game which will come through experience.
We lost the midfield when Lundstram went off, after controlling it for the majority of the game.
No chance, best passing range at the club with the exception of Norwood. It's the rest of his game that lets him down.
Our lass slagged Lunny off at first but doesn't like humble pie, so she did a banana instead. Is that ok?View attachment 61639
Couldn't agree more - wow its not often Iam wrong BUT I am totally wrong on this one. I was very impressed when Coutts fought his way into CW's team whilst on the transfer list - hard work and a great attitude pays off! But Coutts did it in L1 which was ace ..... Lundstram has done it in the PL .... he is now a £15m player and he is only 6 games inFirmly scoffed with lashings of Hendoes from this poster.
Whereas at the beginning of the season (and last to be honest) I couldn't see the logic, CWAK have and his performances this season have been pretty fucking ace TBH. That ball yesterday for the Mousse - had Eriksen or De Bruyne played in Son or Aguero, Shearer and Linekar would have been sat naked in a hot tub last night on MotD.
Well done Lunny. Keep it up. He might be our new 'enforcer' and even 'playmaker'. The new Michael Brown?
pommpey
Honestly watch the game back in its entirety and tell everyone you feel the same. Bar the through ball he gave it away something like 6 out of 7 times he had it, 4 under no pressure and 2 completely out of play with 2 sliced.
I really am happy he's doing a good job defensively but we can do so much better.
Me eitherI don't need any![]()
I think we should all stand in the carpark with our shoes off around a big steak and kidney pie, jump in and punch each other silly, last one standing can then eat the pie.
Just a thought...![]()
Excellent explanation of the Lundstram conundrum, also known on here as the Lundstram conundram or the Lundstrum conunundrum. I wouldn't fancy trying to make that phrase plural...I still think he poses us with a real conundrum. Lundtram has been our best midfielder this year, and I also am eating humble pie.
He is undoubtedly benefiting from the flat 3 midfield however I worry that this is to the detriment of Norwood and Fleck.
I think most of us also acknowledge we need to play with a number 10 at home. Which would mean dropping one of the 3. The conundrum then being that Lundstram has been our best midfielder, but I would argue the other 2 are more suited to the 2 man midfield. It's a really difficult one for home games. I think we have found our away set up, but we do need to change things up at home, meaning something has to give. Might seem harsh, but I'd be tempted to try (in the game after Liverpool, which doesn't count!) a 3-4-1-2 at home but with Freeman in for Lundstram. He has certainly given us an extra option we never knew we had though!
I do think the flat 3 really restricts Norwood's ability to orchestrate our play though.
He’s a good solid player but I still think Freeman should play instead of him but what the fuck do I know?![]()
