This is in no way defeatest attitude or an overreaction to one game, but I genuinely think we will miss out now, our form is too patchy. Also even if we do make it, I’d say any of Fulham, Villa, Cardiff (possibly Boro) would beat us tbh. They have that extra quality that we werent able to bring in Jan for whatever reason.

My thoughts are to next season. Do people think we will be stronger or is this season our big chance off the back of last years momentum?

For me, you’ve got to say there’s a strong chance we will lose Brooks in the Summer.

I’d also be very concerned about the possibility of someone coming after John Fleck, love the guy and think he’s the best midfielder we’ve had in a long time. Certainly wouldn’t be able to replace.

However that’s obviously not a guarantee and we’d have Coutts back too.

Will we get some genuine serious money backing in transfers if all this boardroom conflict gets resolved?

Players I’d certainly look to move on.

Lafferty - Not getting a game
Lunny - Can’t fault his attitude and nothing against the guy but simply don’t think he’s good enough at this level and is behind Fleck, Coutts and Evans id say.

Carruthers - Doesn’t even make the squad, not shown anything in his cameos, shame because I thought he looked useful last year.

Leonard - Jury is still out, needs time to settle and could end up even in CB type role reading between lines on some of Wilder’s comments.

Donaldson - Scored some great and vital goals, but not shown enough consistently for me and age against him.

Wilson - Wouldn’t bother with another loan, havent been impressed in the slightest.

Therefore we need:

A keeper if we don’t get Blackman back

Maybe a real attacking high quality midfielder (thinking about brooksy possbily leaving and Duffy/Holmes both getting on).

Up top (Leaves us with an ageing front 2 of Leon and Billy who are never gonna blaze past defences and a yet to be decided verdict on the return of Ched).

Most important acquisition I think is a pacey striker who can finish. Hard to come by and expensive I know but that’s what we are crying out for the most I think. Get those sorted and we could be stronger to go again next year?

You've basically summed up my thoughts on the matter entirely.

I'd worry about Brooks and Fleck and I think today was a set back. Now, even if we win our game in hand, it doesn't put us in the playoff places and I just can't see the current four slipping up.

I said it was over before Reading, in the hope they'd prove me wrong, unfortunately I don't think I was.....

Still to play Boro though.

It could be all but over by then though.

Not yet but looking more likely with every dropped point, without substantial investment in the summer we will really struggle all up front are the wrong side of 30 and too many league one players in the squad. I suppose until the boardroom is settled once more all we can hope for is avoiding a relegation fight. Brooks is sure to be sold this summer one of our co owner's which ever one wins will not be able to fend off any large bid for him. A huge chance missed this season I'm afraid.

Well, there’s a cheerful note, many thanks, I’ll shall go to bed seriously depressed tonight

Sorry, but Ched has to leave in the summer....was never good enough....something we don’t know about, as to why he came back....Lafferty - not good enough..Carruthers - league 1...Wilson - how was he the next best thing??....Leonard is a long term signing, he will be good for us...I would keep Donaldson, gives us something different.....Wright, great servant, no longer needed....Enda Stevens, don’t think he is good enough, so should let go....the rest are fine and with strong additions we will be good again next season....we need a couple of stars...which means money Mcabe / Prince!

I think, at a guess, we'll be a lot quieter next year. Like a current Ipswich basically.

We started with fizzy jizz in our balls. Next year, after we've acclimatised to the dizzy heights it will be concrete custard. You never know, Wilder might be worth his weight in gold and be able to motivate em, but I'm not hopeful.

Sorry, I'm bored out of my box at a Belle and Sebastian gig, hence the florid bollocks.

Can't beleave all this negativity ,yes !! If we don't put a few wins together it's lost but it's still there for the taking,2. places up for grabs 2 home games coming up Boro to come to the lane more games against teams around us.We have already shown we can compete with most teams in this division, yes !! we have fallen away somewhat and probably lost too many games but it's there if we can find that bit of consistency.
Wilder will be expecting the team to have a real go and if any throw the towel in he will mark there card.
Could still be an exciting finish to the season , it could be a damp squib ,what do we and the players want ? we havnt long to wait.

I don't think the playoffs are gone just yet?. It's gonna be difficult though!. I'm not convinced that brooks will be sold in the summer as he's not played much recently(back spasms ect). It'd be a hell of a risk by either spurs or Liverpool to spunk 15 million quid on a youngster who we all know isn't the finished article?. ( I know they can afford it). I M H O. Feel free to disagree!. UTB

Agree with your assessment apart from your view of Lundstram. He's been the best midfielder we've added this season by some distance - has done far more than Evans thus far. Still all toplay for though, Preston and Boro have to come to the Lane, and we have to go to Bristol City. We also have players to return from injury to bolster us.

Yeah gone, I don’t see the energy in the side to put an unbeaten (or near as damn it) run together over the next 10 games. It’s ok winning the next 2 but what about the 2 after that and the 2 after that.

It's a bit early to chuck the towel in but I tend to feel we'll just miss out on them. Since Boxing Day we've took 18 points out of 13, carry that on until the end of the season then yeah we'll miss out. We've got a few of our closest rivals to play Preston and Boro at home and Bristol City away, we win them then we're obviously in a good position.

We need to up our game for the last couple of months of the season if we want to make the play offs.

Look at the top six tonight - they are the big-budget teams all neatly in a row at the business end of the season. It will take a miracle to shift any of them. They have recruited well and they look strong.
I should think any team with intentions of displacing one if them would need 7 wins from their remaining games.
Putting it another way , we could only afford 3 more games to end as a draw or defeat - how does that fit in with our current form ?

So you think we need 77 to reach play offs
56 as now + 21 ,seven wins ,think your wrong there 74 is more realistic to reach play offs ,we shall soon see

whole team not good enough. board not good enough.. Chris not good enough.. some of you people need to get a fucking grip.. it's as though some of you are actually pleased our form has dropped off.. 'i told you it would'.. it's pathetic

You are wrong....the truth hurts...man up!

bollocks.. we still have games to play and you've thrown in the towel and you are telling me to fucking man up.. clown.
We were talking about next season and who should stay / go...so relax yourself....if we got to the play offs and actually won...the leavers would be twice those I’ve mentioned...I like your optimism...just open your eyes fella

Play offs are over and have been for weeks regardless of position. We are like Usain Bolt in a marathon.

optimism has nothing to do with it. there are ten games left. we are five points off the playoffs with a home game in hand.. Millwall fans think they're getting to the playoffs and they're behind us ffs! it's all in the head.

Sheffield United 3 Burton 1
Sheffield United 1 Nottm Forest 0
Brentford 2 Middlesbrough 1

That doesn't look ridiculous, does it? It would all feel very different next week if that happens. Definitely too early to give up.

I know United fans are generally a defeatist lot but I'm surprised how many are writing us off given what this squad has done so far under this manager.
