Negative interview from him, a little bit like a grumpy child…let me play or I’m off.

He’s previously played for teams where he’s the best player I don’t think he’s used to being a squad player, which he’d be very useful as in my opinion.

It's down to him to impress the new manager now he's back at the Lane. Desire to play in the starting 11 is what we all want to see of course.

I don't mind it, it shows he's hungry, that he wants it and that he cares. If only the rest of the first team had that passion last season.

I suspect we won't be seeing anything of Luke Freeman this season then.

It seems a bit odd though that like 10 days before the season starts and no one has had a discussion with him, either way, about the future. If he's no future here then we need to get shut asap obviously. Make no sense to me.

why should we talk to him . He’s under contract if we get an offer which we deem acceptable then we’ll talk , but obviously no one’s interested in him .
It’s up to him to either prove his worth to United or to a potential buyer

It's not unreasonable, surely, to expect the manager to sit down with a player and discuss his plans/expectations for the season with that player. I'd be disappointed if that didn't happen with all the players to be honest. His contractual position is completely irrelevant.

Because a good manager or leader, in any walk of life, talks to the people who work for him/her. It's basic respect and courtesy. Management should sit down and have a chat with every player. See how they are. What their expectations are etc. Doesn't have to be Slav but someone should.

You can see how happy it is that this hasn't happened. Hardly got a player straining at the bitt to play for you there.

I would hope that at some point Slav will have individual chats with players, maybe at present he's focussing on the team ethos/tactics rather than individuals. From the brief training videos I've seen Slav was giving individual instructions, but, of course, that's the same as a more detailed one-on-one chat. I can only draw from my own experience of playing amateur team sport and most of the managers I played for only had one-on-one chats with me when I wasn't playing well - I had a few of those at one point!

At this stage of the pre-season I would imagine that Slav is still assessing players as in some positions he's got multiple options for one position, in others less so but then there's the youngsters who may well become part of the squad this season.

In Slav's position I'd be wanting to have a look at everyone and then have the individual chats in that order. It's difficult to tell someone how (and indeed whether) they fit into your plans before you've worked with them for a few weeks. Hopefully those chats are starting to happen now.

Keeping Didz and Freeman as two natural options competing for the #10 role has to be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Didz is prime for the '10' role if we go down that route and I don't see Freeman dislodging him from that anytime soon. He wouldn't fit into a front 3, certainly not ahead of our other forwards so I can certainly see him being moved on. He'll be on a few quid mind so as Carlton Blade says it'll likely come at a cost to us in that regard.
While you did not mention Didzy in your previous post, the link is obvious. Neither of them are fully fit yet, due to a very short pre season, but Didzy needs a good back up and quality replacement for the future.
It could well be a useful ‘job share’ until they are both fully fit and firing. Exactly the kind of competition that both players, and the club, need right now.
Didzy is a great player, but who knows how long he can continue without injury, or sustaining the kind of performances we are used to?
Keeping both players up to the mark is good for them, and the club could already have Didzy’s natural successor under contract.
No need to shell out on a new signing?

Not Norwood coz Slav has successful history with him
Don’t see why past history has anything to do with it. If he’s past it then Slav will move on from him. look at Wilder with Ricky Holmes they had successful history

Freeman is one of those players that I would put in the same bracket as fleck and sharp,as regards to when they play well,United usually play well.
I just get a good feeling about Freeman, that if hes in the side regularly, the goals will come aswell as results.
That to me is just as good as a new signing, the lads got form, and a fantastic Championship return.

thats the issue though isnt it i doubt freeman will be in the team on a regular basis and will just be a squad player here i think hes looking for a regular spot and that might have to be elsewhere

We've had 2 pre-season games and he has played in both. Slav only came in on 1 July and the players then had to self isolate. We have a lot of players for him to assess.

a good manager has to be given time to look at a player both in training and actual game time , then I suspect he will in time

Not sure how I feel about that interview (not that my opinion matters to him or Slav).
I've noticed he calls us 'they and them' alot rather than 'us or we' but thats besides the point.

You can class his attitude as disappointed, hungry and frustrated but he clearly doesn't want to fight for his place or come off the bench and win Slav over. Everyone wants to play 90min week in week out but he's a very specialised player that plays in a very specific role.

I like him, I think he's class and a lot more suited to the Championship than the Premiership. It just worries me that he might not be a great player to be around if he doesn't make an appearance for a couple of weeks or even months.

play 4312 with freeman in behind brewster and mcburnie but we still need 2 midfielders in to play in the 3 with berge if he stays
I would put Ozzy Left center mid and Bash/Bogle right center mid with Berge in middle. Freeman number 10 and Brewster and Mcburnie up top.

For now until we get reinforcements anyway

For me it should be:
A keeper / any keeper
Basham Egan Davies
Baldock Berge Norwood Bogle
Freeman
McBurnie Brewster
Have a point for dropping Fleck, lose 10,000 points for picking Norwood.

Too much deadwood in familiar Wilder positions in that lineup for me sorry

would agree with you there has to be freeman brewster and mcburnie as the 3 and bogle has to come in norwood and fleck have to be benched saturday

Potential swap with the Millwall player we are interested in?
