My concern this summer isn't having money to spend, its the time it takes to spend it due to the budget. I don't think we are in a position to get deals done really quickly which is my main concern.

Precisely, which is why it makes perfect sense. These clauses are for the benefit of players and their leeches, not the clubs.

I don't disagree. I do disagree with Pinchy saying that he - and Sharp - "should be playing very few, if any, games".

It rather depends whether you want our club to stay up or give your favourite players a sentimental swan-song. We need better than Sharp and Duffy for the Premier League I’m afraid. If they start more than a dozen games each I fear for our prospects.

Maybe give them coaching jobs? After all, the main purpose of such employment is to give old favourites a job for life, regardless of aptitude. Give the Everton player one as well. In fact, bring back Owd Muckanettles Nowt-Fancy. He was great.

And if they accept someone else's bid meantime? In the absence of any buy out clauses, under £4m for Freeman, and £7m for McBurney would be insulting, and not conducive to good relationships with other clubs.

There's no such thing as a fixed price for a footballer and no-one can measure 'value' aside from comparing the ridiculous prices doing the rounds these days. The agents and selling club will always try and get as much as they can but I don't know how any offer can be described as 'insulting' just because it falls short of some random figure an agent or selling club have put on him.
