Long needs to go

I wonder how many who blame george on saturday would have saved it
Im guessing a very round figure
surprised wednesday kept their keeper after letting in hulls hit and hope in the play off final made their season worthless
getting beaten from further out too

The event itself and the game it happened in are different things though, I'm sure you didn't need me to tell you that.
And I'm sure that you don't need me to tell you that I can remember who the opposition was for all the "unforgettable" moments in my Blades life.

By definition it can't be unforgettable if you have forgotten parts of it.

The event itself was unforgettable, who says anything about who the opposition was?

The event itself only. The action of the ball bobbling over Long's foot and into the net.

Are you really incapable of comprehending this?

Whatever, I'm guessing that if this event you describe did actually happen, the probability is that you weren't there to see it anyway.

I'm certainly not going to waste any more time debating the minutia of every statement you make.

Probably a good idea.

Agree with the overall sentiment of your post (re this being the place for opinions, positive or negative) but not that he doesn’t get abuse at games. I’ve heard plenty of people giving him all sorts of stick at games for the slightest of errors. It seems like some just have to have 1 figure of hate in the team at all times. Not necessarily you, but some of our support.

Otherwise, yes, I agree that if people have concerns re George this is the place to vent them. What I Don’t get though is why people are citing Saturday as an example of his incompetence? He was beaten by a very good strike. Made 1 superb save. He hasn’t cost us points on Saturday and frankly, I can’t remember the last time he did.
Agree with you and also SBT,but some people can't differentiate between criticism on here and at games, and no doubt some will be slagging him off from the first minute..the new Scapegoat..for me i can't think of a keeper who stands out in L1..they all have mistakes in them...wasn't at Bolton but great save from Pratley's header, and no chance with the goal.

It'll not hurt the lad to have some proper competition for the no.1 jersey...make him stronger and all that...

Doesn't this just feel like a year ago after Gillingham? Long being the scapegoat for a defeat.

He didn't have a stinker but he isn't yet the commencing GK I want bollocking the back four.

I hope Wilder has a back up keeper in mind at least before the season starts.

See you on Saturday at the Lane.

Any suggestions then.

Yes.....soon, hopefully....

I'm not a Long knocker btw, just think it best to have some competition for George..maybe older....the younger lads might be a way off still...

The more george plays the better he will get! Starting tonight in the cup!!!

Can you just remind me when this unforgettable event occurred?

I can't remember it at all, but I do accept that it may well have been in a game that I didn't go to.

Think it was Hartlepool at home when they were bottom and we were top yet we lost 2-3 to them just after xmas 2012. To be fair to the lad, he was only 18/19 at the time and had a good run of clean sheets a bit before that.

Or was it Yeovil shortly after when we lost 2-0 at home?

Pretty sure it was one of those 2 games.

If we're doing history what about that stupid mistake Tracey made? Some game he did something.
And that useless cunt Kelly getting lobbed by a brum player when we lost 4-4 at the Lane.
And that fat bastard Kenny against Everton.

Let's not forget the time Kelly tried to skin 2 West Brom players, fell over and let them have a tap in. Wanker.

A big factor in goalkeeping is coming off your line to narrow the angle.
Hence why gk's always try to rush off their line when facing a penalty.

I remember Kenny used to often be off his line which enabled him to save long range shots etc.
Where as Simmonsen and Long always stay near their goal line.

I admit that many of the long range shots in the top corners can't be saved by Long, so it doesn't look like its his fault.

However if he came a little more off his line then he'd be able to save long range shots even he placed in the top corner. The only concern is he could then be chipped but that's a harder skill for forwards.

Narrow the angle down.
It takes a special strike to beat the keeper if he's five yards off his line makes the goal looks small

Narrowing tje angle is ok for a striker at, say, 12 - 18 yds but 25 - 30 yds, no use at all. A chip, a bend or a cahnge of direction by the striker amd the keeper is stranded.

Long is not a disaster, he is a capable shot stopper who meeds to work on commanding his area.....Oh, and concentration.

So stay anchored on your line ? No way
It would take a special strike to beat you 3 Yds off your line
No Messi in L1

Can't believe he didn't throw his cap on that, hodgy would have :(
We all want long to prosper but he keeps messing up.
Team look lacklustre to me, I would have mixed it up cos of the extra time tother neet.
