If Wardy was sold for £400K I would NEVER set foot in BDTBL again until McCabe/Blackwell/Birch were gone.

And that's a promise.

400k? Even I don't think the Blades board are the mad.

I wouldn't put anything past them Robbie, besides it's about time we started flogging of the family silver to the great unwashed up the M1 again isn't it?

I wouldn't be too surprised to see him join them, however for the figure quoted, I just can't see it.

If they sell Wardy for £400,000 (and somehow I struggle to believe that figure) - that would probably push a lot of Blades over the edge. He is a £1M player at minimum. With his potential we could probably command more than that in a better financial climate. Selling him at all would be sheer lunacy!!!!

If United let him go on the cheap as well I doubt I will be buying a season ticket. Wardy is one of the only reasons I still go to the lane.

Our most promising player to Leeds for about a third of his value - that's about the going rate isn't it? Any mention of a friendly?

And so it begins...........

Get ready for all sorts of players to be linked with "massive" Leeds.

I would raise a couple of points to counter the mirror (usually decent sources at United). Firstly, and I'm pretty certain about this, it would cost a fair bit more than that to get him. Secondly Leeds aren't loaded despite what the press seem to think, I believe they made a 1-2 Million pound loss last season.

Is the headline "United Directors Attempt Suicide"?????

Monty I can believe. Wardy going to Leeds would make me finally accept that we are secretly run by the Mad-Hatter from Alice in Wonderland.

Bob - Is the Sean O Driscoll rumour dead in the water now? Surely something would have happened by now if it was going to. Wouldn't it?

:D oh the Beano err i mean Mirror......... it must be true ..... £400k as much as that

Don't forget they will be selling Beckford - or is he on a free, were they that stupid?

He's on a free, they are "that stupid"

Truth is that any club with a key player coming out of contract has a decision to make. Do you sell in January a la Kilgallon or do you keep them in the hope that they get you to where you want to be by the end of the season, and then risk losing them on a free?

More a matter of realistic choices than stupidity. You can't make any player sign a contract that he doesn't want, and management have to make the choice that they feel is best for them based on known factors and the balance of probabilities.

It's called management.

I was told they made a profit last year - only £15K, but still a profit. Think they know they need to invest - but can't see Wardy as a realistic target.

Contradiction there mate. They gambled on Beckford to get promoted so the gamble paid off even if he does leave in the summer they're in the Championship that was their aim.

If we'd kept Kilgallon and got promoted we'd have kept him. If we'd not got promoted we'd have lost him on a free and lost the gamble. Ours is a Win/Win or Lose/lose situation. Obviously Leeds wanted Championship football at all costs and if that means losing your best player for free so be it.

What's really stupid is flogging a load of defenders in August and keeping Kilgallon. Then realising in January he won't sign a new contract and selling him off cheaply. Then paying other clubs £2M to borrow their players for a few months. That's a LOSE/LOSE/LOSE situation.

Not heard anything eitherway, but I wouldn't put it down as dead in the water.

that is the period to June 2009, including Delph's sale money.

Yep, they made a large trading loss which was offset by income from player sales resulting in a £15,000 profit.

I could be argued that income from player sales is part of the normal day to day trading income of the business and should therefore be included in the trading account, but however you treat it it does show that despite thier bluster they are likely to have limited funds for team investment this summer ( I hope!!!)

No contradiction at all. Our management obviously decided that Kilgallon was unlikely to be the difference between Championship and Premiership football next year and that the money on offer was too much to merit the gamble that he might be.

Having weighed up the known factors and the balance of probabilities they decided to sell.

We will never know if it was the right decision or not and there is no certainty that he would have stayed if we had got promoted either.

so did Leeds' gamble with Beckford pay off if he signs for everton on a free? I think it did!

And I entirely agree. Their management made a judgement and it paid off.

It was an assessed decision and not an act of stupidity as Come From Away suggested.

Illustrates the exact point I was attempting to convey.

Our 'management' couldnt find its arse with both hands though. We never gamble on things like that if the odds are lower-end play offs, we sell and make do and mend. The only time I can remember in recent years are the two seasons we were vying for automatic. One paid off, one got us to the play off finals.

I HATE LEEEDS. If we sell ANY of our players to them (maybe not jordan stewart) i will never go to BL again. Surely we cant. Surely. THey're getting big for their boots already, they 'rumour' themselves with players like ward, boa morte, naughton and ishmael miller. Leeds are a joke and i hope they go straight back down with ZERO point and ZERO pence in the bank. GOd, i Hate them!!!!

P.s. this rant was courtesy of a man who has lived in Leeds all his life and has had the worst few days ever with these arogant pricks thinking theyre a quality side. Arrghh!

Quite simply and however true it may well be, the agents/wage demands stuff which was trotted out for JB, KN, KW & MK wouldn't wash with the supporters if it's used to describe why Monty/Ward left. It would be tantamount to suicide and a fucking massive kick in the teeth for all those who have renewed.

They didnt wash with me anyway... JB was on 28k+ bonuses - we signed Henderson - "his replacement is ALREADY at the club, we expected to lose James in the Summer" KB... - on god knows what wages but Greg Halford on 28k, 100% paid by us for a season kind of tips the scales of how greedy and demanding JB was and how unwilling we were to pay such a figure - comments made by a stuttering McCabe when JB had 'a cold' and definitely WASNT leaving the following Monday. If we'd kept JB, we'd have gone up automatic... or the very least if we'd had him at Wembley, he'd have been a damn sight better than those playing upfront that day.
