Your point no. 3 that he had a good Euro 2022 was the only thing that got him the massive money move to Man City. The facts show
1: A few year ago he was one of the best players in the Championship.
2: He was so good that Man City agreed to pay £42 million for him and offer him a 6 year contract on £150K a week.
3: He’s played 31 times for England and during Euro 22 was man of the match in a few games.
4: He’s still only 30…..so not exactly past it.
The downsides are he’s hardly ever played for Man City, only played in 16 premier league matches.
He’s been on loan at Premier league West Ham and Ipswich and been poor.
It’s a real fall from grace because now…..it’s possible he’s (at worse) average Championship standard.
It depends on the contract but signing anyone with such a background would be a sign of ambition However as mentioned he might now only be average championship standard……however he might also return to his previous form and become 1 of the best players in the Championship.
It’s a risk but most signings are risks. However I think if the signing fails….at his very worse Philips is still an average hardworking CC midfielder.
He was decent for Leeds but wasn’t anything special.
