Julian Winter interview

My take on it:

1. McCabe making it impossible to sell the club as hes only leaving the football side which is the part that loses money.
2. Jacob is full of shit
3. Winter talks lots of business speak but haven't heard any real substance or any actual plans to sort anything out.
4. Playing budget down
5. Club wants to be sustainable which he says we will but doesn't say how.
6. Harry going.
7. Morgan wont be manager
8. Lots of applicants but not very good ones

Nothing really new but overall I feel less hopeful having heard that

Thought it was a decent interview, given he's only been back 5 mins.

Thought lots of what said was what the fans want, such as trying to be more honest and looking at younger players and trying to follow the Southamptons and Swanseas etc methodology.

Remains to be seen whether it's just season ticket sales talk or not.

Yes I agree he came across very well but the proof will be in the pudding.
No it won't. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Not in the pudding itself, but in consuming of said culinary delight.

I reckon it will taste a bit sawdusty, and with a shitty centre. Still, the more crust we eat, the less shit we'll taste. :D

Pretty chilling listening. Certainly puts paid to my fantasies of a change of culture at the club. Like the current squad, this guy failed and has been invited back to do exactly what he was doing before. Could not have sounded more clueless about how to attract investment, other than to put a big 'Open for Business' sign up for our youngsters. Oh, and Jacob Esan was full of shit. Colour me amazed.

To hear this guff about not standing in the way of our youngsters' careers when we accept bids from higher-placed clubs from blades is one thing, to hear it from the chief exec, whose priority, you would think, should be to maximize the effectiveness of our playing squad, well it kind of sticks in my craw.

His priority is pretty clear based on that interview - run the club so it's financially self-sustaining. Investment is something that will only happen if someone on the forum wins the next Euromillions rollover.

While I'm pretty grieved we're still cutting costs (how long can it take?), what really interests me is whether the concept of running the club at cost includes the cost of repaying the owner's loans to the club. That must be an impossible ask.

I for one thought the interview very bland.......not surprising as Giddings was don't the interviewing ..about as cutting edge as an old sock!
Winter is a cheap option that fits well in McCabe's world ........and will do exactly what he did the last time ..walk away when he's failed.
He is a loser...but McCabe loves losers - he continues to surround himself with them!
Not impressed in the least!!

My overriding feeling after listening to that was that the club has a total lack of ambition - but we knew that already so nothing new. The worst thing is there seems to be no way out of this mess because McCabe is making any buy out next to impossible. I know he's the biggest bladey blade going, but the way he acts you'd think he was a closet pig.

Yep. Sounded very bland. Even his so called rallying call when asked about the shit attendence in the Play off v Yeovil sounded boring.

Politicians answers to everything. Lots of sustainable, restructure, operational, model, focus and other buzzwords, not realising most people listening wont know what the bloody hell he's going on about.

And can anyone tell me (in plain English) why he left us the first time?

He seemed to be telling it how it is. Call that bland if you like.

Much better than making unrealistic promises merely to win favour. Leave that to the politicians.

Sounds ok to me - I want honesty. I can accept smaller budgets and what comes with it. I hate bullshit. And even more, I hate the fact that McCabe is still charging interest on any loans his incredibly piss poor decisions have left us with.

Cut your losses Kev, and leave. Many will respect you for it.

Did anyone ask this clown what he will do 9-5 because I aint got a clue what he is at my beloved club for.

Aren't you all looking forward to them coming out to the fans explaining what the club "wants to be" ?

Reinvigorate the fans. Apparently we'll either buy into their vision or not.

I suggest there is a third option, what vision ?

I'm sure they, and we, all know tht the only thing that will reinvigorate the fans long term is winning football matches (75%) with exciting football (25%). The rest is fluff.

Hatchet man again, that's what he was here for last time. Listening to the interview looks like Doyle, Collins, and others that have been here a while might be on there way. If we have to reduce wage bill again can't think of anyone else as all those that signed Last year must be on reduced wages,. We still need some experience in the squad as although some of youngsters have played nothing to convince me they can do a full. Season. Have renewed season tickets but listening to his interview beginning to wonder why

10% interest as well might i add.

Having briefly listened to the Football chairman in the small amount of time he spoke at the press conference Morgan was appointed caretaker manager, and McCabe's interview around that time, I have to say I thought Winter's interview was one of the most honest and competent sounding interviews I've heard in years from the sufc top brass. Told it completely how it is and gave a good indication of how he would like to mould the club. I also thought it interesting that he isn't expecting any Jacob Egan investment - when I think McCabe gave a much blander, vague answer the other month.

I don't know who the other 2 on the manager interview panel are, but at least now I'm confident there's at least one person that seems to know what he's doing.

I admit to writing this before listening to said interview (I'll do that tomo as I'm in quite a good mood now) but didn't we dispense of JW's services? And if we did, why did we? And then, if we did why have we asked him back?

Has he got the key to the drawer of Trevor Birch's desk with the promise of investment written on a napkin?

Seriously, I've missed this very important post being filled.

Nb: in other news Hodgy's signing on fee was the promise of a suit. He still hasn't received that suit several generations later. On hearing that news Diplomat's dad shrugged, nudged me and said ' that's united all over' - sadly I think that anacdote does say quite a lot about us

I get the impression from what's said that he had to do lots of cost cutting, and as part of that process had to offer himself up as part of it.

He must have made an impression to be asked back, whatever jokes are made. And there's probaby £50K a year lless in his pay now.

He speaks very well and honestly. Many won't give him a chance either way, many won't be abe to handle the truth - but the money tree doesn't exist and it's time everyone just started being honest, and we started paying what we can afford long term, and building from a base for the first time in about 7 years.

So long as he will be here through it all to be a consistent voice I'll accept him.

Quite, I've listened to it twice and I have no idea what the vision is. He's big on corporate speak, and as others have said, uses plenty of words without saying anything very much which is meaningful.

All that really matters to fans is playing winning football, preferably attractive, anything else is peripheral.
