That is all.

Completely agree. Not a single goalscorer at the club. The Board appear to think relegation to League 2 is preferable to putting any meaningful investment in. As many of us thought - nothing has changed - premiership support - League 2 Board. Game changer my fkin rse.

We've made some good signings, including a player from the premier league. I'll be disappointed if we don't get another striker in, but Paynter is far more prolific than Porter.

Overall I think we've done ok. I didn't personally want a January rebuild, as it would more more desperation over planning.

Have faith my Blades brethren , It's all part of Mr Clough's master plan , he will bring in a goal a game striker in the loan window , then all you nay Sayers will have egg smashed all over your joyous faces . UTB , just in from pub there's some right shit weather heading over to you from us .

" do you have to use so many cuss words " .

I'm not sure there are that many players who's dream is to join a club in the relegation zone of the third tier. NC has to find a player that fits his plans and also wants to play for the club. We have wasted enough money in recent years just splashing the cash and hoping.

I agree. I think we have done very well, except that elusive striker. We don't need a 20 goal a season striker, as they are a hard to come by, but a 5 goal a season striker would be a great start! Anyone, surely, any champ/prem reserve player could bag 5/6 goals from now until the end of the season?? (more than Porter, Paynter or MIller will IMO)

Whilst I'd have liked a striker, I'm still reserving judgement on all our current crop until they've had a run in a side creating chances. I think theres got 10+ goals a season in all of them. I think we may have gone some way to addressing our creative problems with Scougall and Brayford.

Would have liked somebody up front - I have faith in NC though.

I personally want us to stay up, which we will not do without signing someone who can score goals.

Who would you like us to sign on a permanent basis?

Who would realistically move to us in our position?

Its disapointing.

However lets see who we can get in the loan window.

I highly doubt that anyone would like to sign for us permanently cos of were we are atm.

I think that is the main beef with players. Nobody wants to join us where we are

Equally though I don't think Clough wants to commit to any long term contracts until the end of the season when he has had a good look at what he has got and what certain players have achieved before seriously reshaping his squad. He went for Scougall based on a good bit of scouting that he did on the lad while at Derby so he knew what he was all about, the same can be said for Bob Harris and Brayford as he scouted one and tried to sign him at Derby and the other played under him so he knows what these two are about therefore knew they were safe loans.

I think he will bring in a loanee and I think this evening he will be sat watching all the movement in the Championship to see if moves have freed up on of his targets before looking to bring them in next week. Safety is very much his priority with no real pressure to do anything else and as I said at this point in the season unless Cloughy has scouted them and targetted them or knows what they are about through managing them previously, I can't see him offering more than a 1 year deal.

And ok this might be fristrating know but at the same time it is nothing but sensible. No impulse buys or panic buys without the research hopefully means no more dead wood.

Am i the only one who isn't disappointed with this window? I personally feel it's been one of the best we've had for a period of time. We were never ever going to sign anyone for comparatively major money in this league. I never expected us too at all. At times i feel that although we have the backing of the prince. This is going to be a slow and steady rebuild as opposed to a major overhaul. Clough strikes me as the type of manager to make calm assured decisions as opposed to rash panicked ones.

We are in good hands, in terms of both ownership and management. Lets knock grand allusions of 'major' investment and 'game changing' money on the head for the time being. We are in league 1 relegation fight, lets remember that and be realistic in our expectations in terms of transfers. Patience will prove successful in this partnership, of that i have no doubt.

I'm not disappointed in the slightest at our business in this transfer window, I've said multiple times that the business that we have done has been some of the best in a while. We've added much improved quality to certain areas within the squad and we've offloaded a bit of deadwood to reduce the which bill which all in all is cracking stuff.

I am still however waiting for this 2nd striker that Clough rightly says we need to add a different dimension up front. We need a striker who can play on the deck and run defenders ragged.

How could we be disappointed? There isn't one single player we have that made me go 'oh thank god we kept hold of him' at 11pm tonight! Anyone we signed would be an improvement on the worst squad of players we have had in most fans' lifetimes!!

I must admit though, when we signed Brayford I was like....

We've done some cracking work getting rid of some players, but the ones we've brought in are excellent from the first look.

I think like most the one slot that we needed to fill was the big striker, which so far we haven't done. Lets not make any bones about this. We needed one under weir, we needed one when Clough came in and we still need one now. The club were desperate to sign one.

So it's disappointing that despite having months to identify one, we haven't got the big striker we need.

That said, Wolves paid 750,000 for Leon Clarke. I'd hope we wouldn't pay anywhere near that for a 3rd tier striker. So it seems we're up against it a bit.

This isn't meant to take anything away from the lads we've brought in. I can certainly see Harris and Brayford being regulars. Scougall I expect to be an impact player for this season at least if last week was anything to go by.

Not sure about Paynter, will need to see how he slots in

I think you need to re-think the maths there Bladder. If you want 5/6 goals from now to the end of the season, you need a 10/12 goal a season striker. We're half way through it already.:)

This IMO this is the one position where we need someone resembling a brick out house. A guy to frighten the crap out of defenders, to put his head where it might hurt and really get stuck in.
This may be most people's definition of a pub/ Sunday League player. Chief or Ships, that sort of player I mean.(Not denigrating them BTW ) they were better than Sunday league of course, I wouldn't have thought the outlay would be too much. Our former Chairman used to do it for the Fowls. In of his head, elbow or arse but they all counted.
Sign them raw and polish them later. The other 9 outfielders can play the beautiful game.

You said it all in your opening sentence, you're "not disappointed in the slightest", you never are though are you? Seriously, if we dressed a troupe of underperforming performing slugs in Blades shirts and they got a right royal fucking you'd still be starting your "It's not a disaster" threads.

The transfer window hasn't been "cracking stuff", it's been overwhelmingly meh but it proves one thing, that the club can do as it pleases whether we're rock bottom or not and there'll be starry eyed 100% real Blades out there who'd not be disappointed if we went down and did fuck all about it because hey, it's an opportunity to rebuild and so on and so on.....

Everyone is crying out for a striker and yes we do lack quality up top, but have we not got the first goal in our last 6 games? Look at it that way and I'm relieved Clough has focused on the back 4 to start with. Give him time, he knows we need a stronger front line, but if we had held onto those leads in all of the last 6 games we would be in the next round of the cup without a replay and 8 points better off in the league (putting us in 14th).

Its not all about the striker!

Quick addition to the above - since Clough has come in we have only failed to score in 2 games out of 13 in the league, averaging between 1 and 2 a game, the problem is we only kept 3 clean sheets. But yeah, we're obviously going to go down because we're missing a striker, the manager and the board are idiots for going after defenders...

Danny Corker sounds a bit like Billy Porter to me. Remember? Cracking song by the late greatest Mick Robson.

Walking down an empty road I saw a man in old grey clothes a stranger
Passing by he smiled at me but when I looked I realized the danger etc. etc.

Marvellous.

dont think we will be troubling Wolves to be honest, and as you say 750k for Clarke if like half a mill for Doyle
We wanted a striker but its more theres a dearth of strikers arouind more than a will to find one, Arsenal couldnt find one with unlimited funds so we are unlikely to find one in our position , and I cant think of one who is available that can guarentee goals

Just because you don't share the same opinions as me doesn't mean you have to be a complete prick and come directly insulting me does it? I think you need to change your user name to "fucknut" as opposed to bulletnut!

I follow United home and away every single week and I am more than entitled to my own opinion whether you fucking like it or not and generally if I disagree with others I would have a bit of respect when pointing out why I disagree.

Makes me wonder if you even know anything about football and how often you watch United play because your sense of reality seems non existent. Another one of these expect the world from the club supporters who doesn't even pay for tickets? Or are you just one of these haven't got a clue supporters who doesn't go to away games and only turns up at the lane to sit and whinge for 90 minutes? Either way you haven't got a fucking clue, you know fuck all about football if you can't see the improvements made all round at the club but being the obnoxious person that you are you wouldn't be fucking happy unless Lenny Messi and Christiano Ronaldo signed for us.

I'm happy enough. We did our business at the right time and didn't panic buy and went for predefined targets rather than a washed up forward just because he was available. It's about evolution not revolution.

I can't see a single transfer of a striker that happened in the JTW that made me think we could and/or should have done that deal.

Maybe one or two that I wouldn't have grumbled at but none that would have got me excited.

Yeah but you are allowed to buy players who haven't been sold. There's no rule saying you can only buy someone that another club has bought.

I don't really get people saying who would come here etc etc, half the strikers in league two and the conference are better than Porter. Most of them would jump at the chance to come here. Not to mention hundreds of em at foreign clubs. It's up to our scouts to find players. Fans are obsessed with "names", but there's no law saying you have to sign players the fans have heard of. There must be hundreds of strikers out there in the world who would come here and get us more goals than Porter will, it's up to the scouts and manager to choose one they think is worth taking a punt on. Remember when we used to sign players like Katchuro, Marcelo, Flo, Nilsen? Why do we never do that anymore? Now when we need a player we just sign clapped out "names" like Kitson and King. Why aren't our scouts finding cheap foreign talent anymore?
