doing the 92

I’m on 86 actually. Missing Wimbledon, Salford, Bromley, Barrow, Newport & Accrington.

I’ve possibly missed the opportunity to tick 1 or 2 of them off with u23 games or whatever.

I’ve done 9 in the National League.
We played @ Barrow pre -season 2019-20 (?) - essentially bairns with Jake Wright & Lester in charge.
I also travelled to Accrington for a mid week game v Chengdu Blades which was cancelled
following a Tsunami (in Lancashire)
I did a ‘pitch inspection’ by climbing over the (very low) wall of the alehouse car park adjoining the ground :- do I get a(ny) ✅ ?
(apart from for stupidity ?)

Our U23s played away at Barrow on 27 July 2019 in a pre season friendly.

Our Women played London City Lionesses at Bromley on 23 March 2025.

Our reserves played Rochdale Reserves at Accrington Stanley on 28 November 2001, in the Avon Insurance League Cup.

(Incidentally, that XI included Phil Jagielka & Michael Tongue).

As I surmise - AFC Wimbledon, Newport County, Salford City are the "never played there".

.

Looking at my grounds app I’ve got 49 of the 92 and 69 grounds all in all (that’s including a handful as a neutral, friendlies, play off finals and grounds that have been knocked down).

3 grounds not on the app that I’m unsure if they should count as they were more like park pitches - Baslow, Tideswell and Frecheville.

Also got stadium tours at Nou Camp and Estadio de Luz but don’t think I can count them in good conscience.

I don’t count it even if watching United unless it’s a competitive fixture.
Agreed, I only count competitive matches, but each to their own. I’m on somewhere in the mid 140’s I think. That includes the same club twice or three times where that club has moved grounds, Brighton for example would register as three.

Genuine question (not to any specific poster)

There's a team playing out there, called Sheffield United, the players are wearing a Sheffield United badge, 11 v 11, referee has got a whistle, an' all that...

And you're watching it.

Yet somehow ... "you're not" ... because somehow "I'm not counting it".

What's the thought process there?
How does that work?
What are you denying?

There’s no real logic to my method, it’s just the way I’ve always done it, first team competitive games only. But as I said above, each to their own, that’s my way and I’m not going to argue with anyone else’s count list. Also, I’m too old and obstinate to change it now.
P.S. I have a different logic for some unknown reason when counting cricket grounds. 🤷‍♂️

As expected ... inconsistent weirdo

It's that time of year again folks.

Are people counting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rebuild on the same site as two different grounds?

Are people counting the Wembley Stadium rebuild on the same site as two different grounds?

Are people counting the Bournemouth Stadium rebuild on the same site as two different grounds?

Just how I started and I don’t really “get” the achievement of doing the 92 without it being your team.

Tbf, I’ve a separate list including 21s, reserves, 18s, dev, friendlies etc

Can you assign a CBF member to inform me of any future games at said venues. 👌🏽

I'm very, very happy to clarify that each and every fan has the right to count grounds and games and ticks in any way they like. There is no right way. There is no wrong way. There is no Inconsistent Weirdo way. There are no rules. The #GroundTick Police are redundant.

Foxy 's component and categorised lists are a superb way of handling it all.

#239 different grounds watching a Sheffield United XI.
Infinity minus 239 to go.

Don't forget. It's the U18s at Wheatsheaf Park on Saturday. That's a Tick surely. See you there...

I've done 59 different grounds watching United. 2 of them are currently outside the 92 (Oldham and Rochdale). One of them is long gone (Bury). One club I've been to 2 different grounds for (Coventry). Outside "Club" stadiums I've also done old and new Wembley, and the Prinicpality Stadium in Cardiff. Oh, and Worksop town for a pre-season game years ago.

9 Of the stadiums I watched United in are no longer used or don't exist anymore. Highbury, The Withdean, Maine Road, White Hart Lane, The Boleyn Ground, Highfield Road, Ninian Park, Millmoor and Gay Meadow.

Going down the league tables as they are now, I've watched the Blades at:

Liverpool
Arsenal (Highbury)
Nottingham Forest
Man City
Newcastle
Brighton (Withdean)
Fulham
Aston Villa
Crystal Palace
Man Utd
Spurs (White Hart Lane)
West Ham (Boleyn Ground)
Wolves
Ipswich
Leicester
Southampton
Sheffield United
Leeds
Burnley
Sunderland
Coventry (Highfield Road and whatever the current one is called this week)
West Brom
Bristol City
Norwich
Watford
That shithole in S6
Millwall
Preston
QPR
Swansea
Stoke
Hull
Cardiff (Ninian Park)
Derby
Luton
Plymouth
Birmingham
Wrexham
Stockport
Reading
Bolton
Barnsley
Peterborough
Rotherham United (Millmoor)
Wigan
Shrewsbury (Gay Meadow)
Walsall
Bradford
Port Vale
Swindon
Gillingham
Oldham
Rochdale
Bury
Old Wembley
New Wembley
Principality Stadium
Worksop Town

Only one I'm really gutted about never getting to is Goodison Park, as I like old-fashioned grounds.

Favourites (except the lane) probably Anfield, Stadium of Light, Boleyn Ground. Biggest shitholes (apart from Hillsborough) Millmoor and The Priestfield.

Amongst my 86 I’ve got Cheltenham via the early 00’s friendly. Harrogate via the friendly last summer. And Morecambe via the 2012 friendly (we played them in the cup in 2015 but I’ve no idea if I went). I saw the reserves play Man U at Altrincham (National League) in what I think was a youth cup game circa 2003.

I’ll count ones like that. But I’m not sure where I sit with ticking them off watching the women’s team. No real reason other than it’s of no interest to me. If I’d known about the game at Bromley last week I suppose I’d have had a decision to make. I doubt I’d have gone.

Are we, generally, counting the Anglo Italian Cup as "competitive fixtures"?

Non-league grounds I either don’t think I’ve done or am unsure about for various reasons:

Halifax - do they play at the same ground they did last time we played them? I definitely watched United away at Halifax once. 00’s I think.
Buxton - feels like somewhere I must have seen us in a friendly?
Alfreton - as above.

I’ve done 84 of the current grounds. The ones I’ve not got are either relative newcomers to the league or teams we’ve not played in donkeys years.

I’ve got plenty of the ex league grounds and even more defunct grounds, as well as quite a few non league grounds from friendly games.

If I was to go a proper calculation I’d guess I’d be up to about 140-150 and around 1,000+ games.

I’d imagine there are plenty like me who got dragged along as a kid and have spent a lifetime as a regular match going Blade

I’m gonna stop now before I tot up how much it will have all cost me

Halifax. At The Shay. There was a Fourth Division game on 12 April 1982. Definitely a friendly on 19 July 2016. And a Youth Cup tie on 16 November 2016. That is still the ground Halifax use now.

Buxton at Silverlands. There was definitely an U21 friendly on 5 August 2015.

Alfreton at North Street. I have never been to a First Team friendly there. But the U18s have used it as a HOME ground for Youth Cup games.

I’m still amazed you got there and back after your exciting motoring adventure with Azeem

Yes, doing a 500 mile round trip driven by someone who'd only had 2 driving lessons, leaving the M25 for "a fucking kebab" for one of the travelling party and aforementioned driver falling asleep at the wheel on the last leg of the M1 wasn't my finest idea.

We won 4-2 though and Asaba got an hat trick.

And before his motoring adventure didn’t he stay up all night so he didn’t overlay and spend the day eating Pro Plus like they was smarties.

Yes and stopping at every service station for coffee. I knew things could go awry when he drove over a traffic island he "hadn't seen" and didn't get into 2nd gear until 10 mins in

And. It's also that time of year again. Remember, you could have seen Sheffield United play Bristol Rovers on FOUR different away grounds.

I went to the one @ Clevedon's stadium and I remember asking Shaun Murphy in the bar afterwards whether he thought Clevedon's stadium was on a par with the one he'd played in Montevideo for Australia in the WC qualifier the week before! He laughed he knew I was taking the piss.
