The only League 2 side left in the competition......

When is the draw for the next round?

The title of this thread is the saddest thing I have read in a long time. Still if we were to win it setting it along side our fourth div championship (the only thing we have won in the 44 years I have supported the Blades) would definitely underscore the depth of ambition at this club.

If we got to Wembley, It would be a day that we should take at least 25,000 to Wembley, possibly 30,000. It would also be an excellent opportunity to win a competition for the first time in my living memory, and could have a strong galvanising effect on the club, and go along way to removing the losing mentality that pervades the club.

Don't see it. I think it would be more in the 15-20k bracket. Can't see us drawing in many of the non-regulars like we did for the FA Cup semi. I'm a season ticket holder and I can't see myself going. In some ways, I'd be embarrassed to win the JPT. To win a competition we shouldn't even be competing in (for the 4th time) wouldn't exactly be the proudest club moment. Who cares? Let's f****** get promotion. Balls to the Johnstone's pisspot trophy.

Why not both blader?
I remember well winning the old 4th div title, hardly champions league but it felt great to win something and I think the JPT would also feel good, increasing the confidence, giving the young players a chance some players never get, the chance to play at wembley.
I personally think we have the squad to allow clough to compete in all four competitions, unlikely to win FA cup or league cup but make a bit of Money from decent cup runs, but the JPT is a very real possibility.
I'm not saying concentrate on it, promotion has got to be our main goal, but as proved last year cup runs can help with confidence and galvanising players in a team.
So I say onward young man, play to win every game no matter how unfashionable or perceived comical and a waste of time.

Totally agree, blader. I've been to every 'major' game since the 60s and will definitely not bother with this one. Probably won't even bother listening on the radio. It just shows the shocking depths we've sunk to. The only fans who could possible get giddy about a day at Wembley for the JPT/Watney Cup are fans of clubs such as York, Rochdale etc.

It's got as much credibility as the Texaco Cup or Anglo-Italian. Or Rumbelows.

I was sat in the Carlisle end at Wembley when Southampton thrashed them in the final. Great day out, Southampton came in impressive numbers and were well up for it. It was the start of what's been a steady rise since.

The only thing we've won in my lifetime is the Steel City Trophy, invented simply because of the sad fact that we were relegated and missed the derby games. I would like us to win something at least vaguely competitive, even if it is admittedly something we qualify for because we've fallen on rough times.

Nah. It's the League Cup now. When Wendy won it, it was a joke.

I am happy to say that I did not watch the 1991 final. to this day, I have never seen the goal.

I also didn't watch the 1993 league cup final, though that ended happily. I did watch the FA cup final, and the last 10 minutes of the replay. Thank you, Andy Linighan.

What about your dead memory? No joy there also..?

Like it. JPT win and promotion from league 1 this season. League cup win and Championship promotion next. Premiership title and FA cup double after, then Champions league title and win the World Cup in 2018:D Whoops, carried away again.

Nowt compared to massive Luton who took 40,000 down to Wembley for the JPT or Southampton for that matter who took a staggering 45,000

Fuck that, as if you two wouldn't be going mental and hugging other grown men you've never met if we won that trophy. I would. I'd love it. There'd be Champagne on Wembley way and Clough would confirm his status as a Blades legend. The last thing they won was a good 4 years before I was born. I've never seen them win anything.

Understand what you're saying, but i think we would take quite a few our selves if 1.It was a one off occasion like the two teams you mention,i.e.don't play at wembley as often as us, 2.If it was next door, and 3.It was cheap like on the occasions the two teams mentioned played.

I've been going to the Lane for over 35 years now, and seen a few promotions, more disappointment and heartache than I care to mention, and one, just one thing actually won outright. So if we get to Wembley of course I'll be there, with my boy. hopefully he won't have to wait as long as I have to see some good times

I feel in love with Wembley again after the Hull game. First game at the big stadium that I have actually come away proud of the team. Might have lost but it did me the world of good that game and i'm sure everyone felt the same way.
