By the time the window shuts I’d be surprised if we have any players you’d class as fringe or downgrade.

It will be swapping Doherty for Seriki, Arblaster for Peck, Campbell for Bamford.

Good or bad, we at least have a squad that can be described as much of a muchness. I don’t see a big margin between those that have the shirt and those that don’t.

Now that might also be endemic of not having any outstanding players but it also means we should expect a level of consistency even if it isn’t stellar or eye catching on a weekly basis.

In a strange way, the squad feels quite deep now, despite what will be lower numbers than before.
Yeah there’s an opportunity there.

If we get lucky we might progress quite far. The third round draw is already quite favourable.

Seen club website ?

10 of the 16 ties involve EFL teams so with the exception of - Bournemouth/Lincoln, Palace/Boro and Man City/Norwich - as they are all playing in Europe the week of 14th, the rest will be 15th-17th sept.

The 6 all PL ties the will all play week before.... its just where do they fit in the European PL v EFL ties ?!?

Fleetwood v United can only fall on Weds 16th as we play Sunday 13th and Saturday 19th

Teams in UCL play EFL cup on 2nd week.
Teams in Europa play EFL cup 1st week.
Non European teams play 2nd week.

Because top level professional football players want to win major trophies.

Yeah, but not this one.

Does it get you into Europe?

£187k is possibly enough to cover the snacks and drinks bill and a corporate package for VIPs and guests at a match for us at the Lane.

Carabao Cup is a total waste of time and resources. If we fluked every round and won it I'd feel soiled.

I mean didn't that Div One team that plays on Concord Park win it once?

Pep Guardiola won it five times.

Do you think he was doing it for the prize money?

😅😅

Possibly because his B team reserves are better than everyone else's TBH?

SCENE:

Pep Guardiola stood watching his first team being put through their paces at the training ground.

Sancho Fray Bentos (Development Squad Assistant Secretary): "Boss?"

Pep Guardiola (turning): "Yeah? Who are you?"

SFB: "Sancho Fray Bentos. I work for Gunduman Runduman, the Development Team Coach. I've just dropped his kids off at school and he asked me to swing by here just to inform you ..."

PG (turning back to the training): "Foden! FODEN! Fucking RUN! Pass ... and run! Tikki-fucking-takki! (turning to SFB) "He's fucking rubbish! You lot can have him ..."

SFB: "Erm, thanks ... Mr Runduman sent me to tell you ... "

PG: "Who's he?"

SFB: "The Development Coach."

PG: "?"

SFB: "We are through to the next round of the Carabao Cup. The semi-finals!"

PG: "?"

SFB: "It's the big, ugly looking, three handled cup that nobody wants!"

PG: "And so ... sounds like not my problem ...?"

SFB: "We have Liverpool in the semis."

PG: "Sounds like not my problem."

SFB: "Mr Runduman asked if we can have some good players for the semi finals and a full squad of firsts for the finals."

PG: "Do I get to be on the telly? In a thin sweater? Stubble? Charismatic interview? Loads of chicks swooning? And we win?"

SFB: "Si."

PG: Consider it done. You can have Foden for the semi and this lot for the final. Not Haaland though. Or Dias. And only half a game for Gvardiol. Rodri ... last ten ... Semenyo ... he can start but he gets subbed on 50. Foden ... full game plus extras but no pens. Now, fuck off ... "

So City needed to win the League Cup to qualify for Europe?

Where did I say that?

He made an effort to win it because he's a serial winner who wants to win as much silverware as possible.

If he wasn't interested in winning it then he wouldn't have won it five times.

See Arsene Wenger who bombed Arsenal out of it pretty much every season for his entire career in England.

Thank you for explaining what you meant.

Should we be successful against Fleetwood on Wednesday

Bradford away would be a great one

Bradford away would be a great one
They would be well up for that though, it's a difficult one in this competition as to which Premier League sides would be beatable, Fulham, Palace or Everton (if they get through) possibly will go fairly strong as they would like to try and guarantee to get the European spot for next season if they win it. The downside to them is the likes of Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, turn up at the semi-final stage and it turns into the similar sides as it's another trophy (money doesn't matter) Man United, Arsenal or Liverpool away at this stage wouldn't be the worse case scenario, yes we probably wouldn't progress but we would cash in on the plastic fans going on a 50/50 gate receipt money. They probably would sell out or wouldn't be far off it.
