Before that, he was good. A lot better than I expected.

After that, he was blowing out of his arse.

I didn't think it was possible, but we have signed someone who lowers the squad's average fitness levels.

Everyone who shows up to our club is unable to do more than 60 minutes for some reason.

There are so many examples of this, I’m afraid.

And it was entirely in keeping with Wilder’s character for Ayew to be thrust into action virtually straight away after arrival. He’s like a kid with a new toy whenever he signs anyone.

Donovan should have been brought on instead of Ayew to make use of his superior pace, energy, fitness, enthusiasm and ability. It’s not even up for debate. But Wilder knows best.

At least, having missed out on a “Wilder pre-season”, Ayew can now be given a “Wilder international break”.
