He's there to fill in, help us keep the ball and get up the pitch.

He hasn't been signed to be our main man. I think he'll be fine for what we need him for.

He could not do what we need him for last season.

The idea we have signed a striker with no expectation whatsoever that he will score any goals is nuts. It's bad business

Lets not over react on this signing. He has been brought in as an extra attacking option to fill in for the odd 20 minutes here and there. We saw the lack of options on the bench on Saturday. My worry is that the fact we have signed him at all may mean One and Chong are going to be out for longer than we first thought. Similar with Sereiki with the Choudhry signing

I have low expectations of him and I'm not expecting him to score many goals. I see him being the player you bring on to see out the game, pressing from the front, and being the outball that gets us up the pitch. We absolutely could have done with a player like that on Tuesday.

Whether he plays that way is another matter but I'm not expecting him to be the player we rely on to score the goals. Which was my original point.

I thought Wayne was a good pro. Ok he wasn't a world beater but he was worth the shirt.
From what reviews I read about Ayew , he is shocking.

Allison scored 7 league goals in 73 games (29 starts, 44 sub). He scored 4 times in his first 7 games, and then 3 times in the remaining 66 games. He scored once in his last 53 league games.

In his final season, 2003-4, Allison featured in 39 of our 46 league games. 14 starts, 25 sub appearances.

He scored once, in the 3rd game at Palace. He failed to score in his last 36 league games. Of all our forwards, only Saint Oli McBurnie of Hull has a longer league scoring drought to his name this century (and perhaps ever).

He did score twice in the FA Cup during this span, to be fair.

As for bringing others into play, I remember his excellent performance at Gillingham when he assisted Pesc when he got his hattrick, so there was certainly some of that.

But as much as I liked Allison, and I realise it's about more than goals, I do wonder whether we would have been better off with someone who could actually score once in a while, especially as we missed the playoffs by 2 points. I certainly think this will be the case with Ayew.

and hated the waste of the Derby bound lad whose name I can never remember as I never rated him
Difference was every Monday on TV the local news used to include Soton games
and the young McGoldrich always looked brilliant
I could never understand why they sold him and for only 1.25mill

I think you're letting the initial shock of it all run over you a bit too quickly. He's not even played a minute yet. He's an awful player

It will be interesting to see if he gets on tomorrow, or whether he is a good or bad signing, the thing I don't like about signing all these 30yr old + players is they are without a doubt coming to the end of their careers, more likely to be out injured for longer, have no resale value to us, yes we are saving on transfer fees but still paying rather high wages. It is an investment with no return, next summer we have to rebuild the squad all over again.

Wow good stat work. I didn’t realise he bagged 4 in 7. I did realise the drought although wouldn’t have put it as being as bad as it was but an awful lot of those sub appearances were for about two minutes weren’t they? Allegedly there was something about him being on minimum wage and Warnock bringing him on so he could keep the lights on at home (I think there was also a rumour that Warnock might have ‘shared’ his appearance bonus).

I would think Ayew is on considerably more to play a big part though. My main gripe is that we seem to be happy to overpay on expensive loans and not to consider paying our prospects properly, like Brooks, allegedly. (I have no idea what he was on or what his contract trajectory was but would wager diverting more towards him, Seriki, Peck, and any other prospect type signing - I always liked Twine at Bristol and they picked up a couple of significant players in Scott and Semenyo - rather than god knows what we spent on Phillips and Godfrey not playing for us or Holding/Mee types)
