The trailer for the new Martin Scorsese film
The year is 2019. John Fleck, a brilliant Scottish Mystro who was tough as nails, with drive and creativity and in the form of his life. An unstoppable force within the resurgent Sheffield United.
However, on the 29th December 2019 something happened that changed his life forever.
In the 52nd minute of a Premier League game against Manchester City, John was inexplicably tackled by the referee leading City to break away and score.
It was scandalous. It was outrageous. Poor John lay in bed at night, craving justice and craving retribution.
Then his plan dawned on him, and wry smile flickered over his wee Scottish face.
Over the next 3 years John continuously put in poorer and poorer performances for his club Sheffield United.
He even set up a separate persona in 'Jimmy Fleck' to create the guise of his impending decline as a footballer.
Despite the cries from the stands, and criticism ladled at his door on popular internet fan forums, his resolve was lazer focus. He must not improve. He must not change.
The final part of his epic plan, resulted in him putting in one of the worst performances seen by a midfielder since Dean Hammond, against a mid table Bristol City team and saw him substituted at half time.
The prologue was complete. The script was written. Avengement was at hand.
On the 22nd April 2023, John Robert Fleck eventually dropped his 3 year façade. Even Pep Guardiola never expected what was to come….
