I think Tudor scored against us during his time at Newcastle. I could be wrong about that.
Newcastle probably had their eye on him ever since he scored an excellent headed goal for us against them in the League Cup in September 1969.

Earlier that year Newcastle had won the Fairs Cup, their last proper trophy. They were a very good top Division side whilst we were in the Division below.

They brought a full strength side to Bramall Lane with mighty Wyn Davies leading their forward line and the prolific Bryan "Pop" Robson alongside him.

Their central defence was sound. Welsh centre back Olly Burton and Bob Moncur alongside.

Almost as soon as the game kicked off Woody scored at the Kop End, direct from a corner on the left with one of his vicious in swingers.

Around half an hour later the ball was crossed from rhe right and John Tudor soared above his markers to power home a header.

A great header, a great night, a great win, a great Blade RIP.

I had Tudor emblazoned all over my school satchel. It was a haversack bag, in truth, bought from the army and navy stores.I was too cool for a satchel, or at least I thought so.
My history teacher thought I was a fan of the Tudor period in history, until he asked me one day why I was so interested in that historical time. When I told him it was in honour of John Tudor the United centre forward, he was less impressed.True story!
He was one of my first heroes in a long line of them, from those glory days.Gave me such happy times watching and singing, his name on the kop.
Thanks for the memories John, and rest in peace.Tudor is our King, and always will be!

yes tudor was our 'denis law' the king

As a young lad I remember John Tudor playing for Newcastle and forming a lethal partnership with Malcolm McDonald.

Seem to remember he was good at diving headers, which are not easy to execute.

Top player.

RIP John.
