At the time of the sale of DCL, if I remember rightly it seemed a fairish price for a kid from a league 1 Academy who had not really played any higher than League 2 (where he did ok and no more at Northampton) amd wasn't being picked. At the time we'd been in league 1 for several years. If Everton say sold him to City for £50 million, I suspect we'd get somewhere close to £8-10 million overall, which is a good bit of business for a then league 1 club.

You could argue that his development has been unique as it's highly unusual to keep playing a young player who was well short of being good enough for the top flight.

We sold all those players, at somehwhat lowers fees than we may have could have gotten, but with higher add ons. The amount we ultimately made, or will make, are all more than reasonable, for what were young players, some of whom had hardly played any professional football. If we sell Jebbo for 6 mill, an 18 year old, with 1 professional goal, with a big sell on fee and or appearance fee and invest it well...it could be more than worth it................the issue is and always has been, we dont trust the club to invest it well...

Totally right, it was a fair deal at the time especially with the sell on clause, the kid we sold is a completely different beast and Everton have done the lions work in his development. Them throwing him in in massive premier games before he was fully ready was a big gamble and huge for his development and something we would not have been able to do, at the time he wasn't even risked or barely used in Lg1

You must have been one of the few. Fair ay for recognising it.

However I still maintain the choice the club made at the time was right. What should we have done? We needed money at this time and needed to upgrade the 1st team due to the stupid signings and overspend of Clough who signed utter dross.

We were never going to get more than we allegedly did for a player who was not even starting in League 1 and had not shown anywhere near enough to be a regular.

Genuine question, who’s going to want to buy Brewster and how much of his fee are we willing to write off?

We are never going to recoup what we paid. We were the only chumps willing to pay that in the first place and his value has surely decreased given his displays. All I have seen so far is an ability to strike the ball hard. A loan spell might be the best option. Get him away from us but at least give him the chance to discover some form/pump up his value.
