James Beattie

Spot on. Has been ..... never been.

We blow massive wages on a 30something player. Have we learnt nothing. The guy is over the hill and was nwever that good in the first place. Plus he is an individual player. We only started playing well in 08/09 after he had buggered off.

The only sollace I can take is that this is highly unlikely.

Agree and disagree here. Don't think we should be signing him don't get me wrong maybe to old with get injured easily but where disagree is your thoughts on beattie full stop. No one can argue that he was quality when here and had a great record simple fact is he shouldn't have been sold in the first place and if we hadn't we would be where we are now.

Well the argument against that is that our record in 2008-09 was actually better without Beattie than with him.

The bloke is well past it, legs have gone. Couldn't get a regular shirt at Blackpool for a reason. And we are contemplating signing him as the big name marquee signing of the summer

In fairness, the one player of particular quality we saw last year was Andy Reid, who looked excellent. Blackpool rated him so highly on their way down that he only managed 5 appearances - and I can't remember him doing much in those. Would you have been unhappy had he joined us rather than Forest?

!

Your right on somethings, I agree he maybe passed it but we won't know how past it he his till he plays at this level. The big difference between Blackpool and were we are at now, is they were playing at the highest level, the gulf in class of defender to this level makes a big difference, as he's getting older this or championship level maybe the level he's at right now.

I can substantiate the fact that Billy Sharp is very good friends with James Beattie.

I also know that any stories of him being a big timer and bad egg couldnt be further from the truth and my first hand impressions of the man is that he's actually quite a gent and was a very popular figure around Bramall Lane.

Dont believe the "Pesky Agent(C) Raul 2010" bollocks thats often spouted when McCabe flogs a player who the fans want to keep... He was signed on wages that couldnt be sustained. That wasnt Beattie's fault.

I havent heard anything specifically - but it wouldnt suprise me in the slightest if he makes a return to BDTBL.

Anybody who thinks this would be a bad thing would do well to remind themselves of this and show the man the respect he very well bloody earned....

I don't want a flash harry like Beattie back at the lane, driving around in his lambo whilst people are feeling the pinch from the recession. He should have more respect.

It's his money to do with however he pleases in my eyes. If I had that money I'd certainly flaunt it with a flash Lambo.

I saw him coming out of JE James with a pair of lime green Skyway Mags.

Obviously, he's managed his expectations down from the Prem to Division 1.

I really cannot see this happening but, if it did, I cannot think of any possible negatives other than that he might not play every game. If we managed to sign him that would satisfy me that we could afford him.

Having a player of this calibre in Division 2 (old money but post Prem formation) would be almost akin to cheating! If some fat semi-failure at Div 1 level like Mellor can do so well for the scum in D2 Beattie would have an absolute birthday.

A signing like this would also convince the fans, together with the likes of Slew that we are actually trying to achieve something and to have a player like Beatts to learn from would be an amazing experience for him. Much better than Fulham's reserves or being loaned out to a Div 1 club.

I still believe that if we'd managed to get Beattie as soon as Hulse got injured in the Prem we wouldn't have been relegated.

As I say though, I just can't see why he would want to come to us with the state we're in.

Really? We signed him last time when it was patently obvious we couldn't afford too. We're still feeling the backlash now. As for no possible negatives, how about no goals in about two years and only 9 since he left us? In fact, his career post Blades could well be described as that of a "fat semi-failure".

I can't see him coming at all, and if he did I'd hope for the performances and goals we got last time. However, I think signing him would be a bad decision.

Especially not with alloy wheels....

To be fair a friend of mine at work told me this last week. I didn't believe him so didn't fancy writing it on here to be shot at. His source wasn't really reliable, probably the OP has heard it similar to how I did.

Cannot see this ever happening.

True enough, but he's got a few more years on him now. Can we afford to spend the sort of wages he'd want, in the hope he can turn it around, again?

From a legal perspective Foxy, do you not think this thread should be pulled regarding the outing of Billy's brother as a, <redacted> ....?Not sure he would be happy at all having it plastered over a forum.

At least consider deleting the relavent posts.

I'd only be for it if he's not going to drain us of money. Would we gain enough of a boost in revenue from the signing in increased attendances to make up for this though?

At this level he would be brilliant IMO. Rather have BT/Slew up front than Shed/Slew
May also convince Slew to stay as well

I'd support that.

I'd support that.

I need to know what drugs he's using...nicotine, alcohol, cannabis (resin or grass), ketamine, cocaine, heroin, speed etc before I take sides on whether this should be public knowledge.

It's only legally problematic if it's incorrect or if the said player has two brothers; one of whom isn't a druggie.

If we're being cautious we should get rid of any text that references the other player to ensure he can't be identified through this. I've edited the text in my quoted reply here.

Yes, really. That we didn't go bust last time suggests we could afford him.

To imply that a player who has spent one full season over the whole of his career outside of the top flight (be it England or latterly Scotland, and the only season below that being spent with us and scoring plenty of goals) is on a par with Mellor is laughable.

I support the football team and don't concern myself with the financials so if we sign him, that's confirms to me that we can afford him. If we don't, which is definitely the most likely scenario, we probably can't.

As a football fan not a money man, I fail to see how any fan could not want him in our team and how having a player the calibre of Beattie playing for us in a shit division can have any detrimental affect. When fit, he would tear the division apart. In fact he probably would even if he wasn't fit!

Ive editted any posts that need to be editted.

who would you rather have up front with slew?ched=shit(on big money)cressy=past it(on good money)or bt=proven goalscorer who would be lethal at this level if we could get him fit.(also on good money if he did take a pay cut to come)
Who does he belong too anyway?is it rangers still?is his contract up?would he command a fee?

Beattie is the best striker I have ever seen at the Lane. The people who used to moan about him sat around me needed executing. If there is any hope in hell of getting him, do it, even if it means selling all players and playing a 0-0-1 formation.

Exactly. Signing Beattie, a good player who might actually want to be here, rather than having some shitbag on high wages who turns out to be a duffer, would be the better of the two options.

I wonder about some people sometimes. If we were to sign a team full of good players but on high wages would they actually enjoy it because we had a team we could be proud of and might achieve something or would they have a crap time all season worrying about the financial implications?

I pay my money for a season ticket so, for me, the better the first team is, regardless of wages, the better the product I'm getting for my money and Beattie would improve the team no end.

1. You're not old enough to remember Deane and Agana are you?
2. Executing fans for moaning... I'm not against that. ;-)

the deal is dependant on shed being moved on. So im told
