He signed a new 'long term' contract a year ago.

Don't know if he's the level we need now but he'd be a useful cover player for CB and LCB.

Probably too expensive given that he wouldn't displace either Egan or JOC though.

Absolute beast (6ft 7) so not sure he’d be mobile enough for Jack’s role. Might be better for the middle of the defensive three.

Seems to have been no interest from any club for him.

Maybe someone we could sign?

He’d be pricey I reckon you’d be looking around 8-12 million for him

This was the first player that came to my mind when JOC got his injury. He's a big imposing centre half, a presence in both boxes, left footed, can definitely defend, my only doubts would be on his ability to get up and down the pitch and whip balls in - I've never seen him do it.

The other problem is he signed a new deal with Millwall in the Summer so he's not one we'd sneak in for £5m. When there was interest before lockdown their manager was saying they wouldn't pay attention until an offer of £10m came in..

Would they take Lunny in part exchange?

We're light in midfield. There's no way we're letting Lunny out without another coming in. Also, I doubt he'd drop down to the PL. If he thinks he's worth more than we're offering then I can't see Millwall being attractive to him.

The problem we have is that any left footed centre back coming in knows full well that as soon as fit they will lose their place to JOC.

True but look how many CB'S have got theye probably got the best group of centrebacks in the league

True, but they've got a free run at starting week in week out at the highest level. Do OK & it's game changing for their career prospects. I'd take my chances. There's also a possibility JOC might not come back the same player. Knee injuries can be career enders.

IMO the perfect replacement for JOC. Wall playing with a 3 at the back now and Cooper is bombing forward ala JOC style down the left. 6 foot 6 inches an aerial threat to rival VVD in the EPL and someone who would have cut off half the goals we have already conceded in the air this season. Also capable of providing cover for Egan.

Tuftyball relies on two wing backs and two overlapping centre backs causing problems. We haven't seen it this season due to a combination of injuries and loss of form. For us to be successful we needed to find quality cover in all these positions. CW started the ball rolling with the two lads from Derby but we have not got that at centre back. When JOC is fit he would have genuine competition for his place with a like for like replacement, the same goes for Basham we haven't found that perfect stand in yet.

If we had £10m down the back of a settee then I would say spend it on Cooper rather than pursue Davies from Preston.

Cooper could potentially challenge for Egan's role as well.

I've not seen him enough. Would he cope with the quick and tricky feet of Salah and Greenwood?

He always seemed to have a good game against us but I thought he was just a big lump. Then watched him last season when Rowett got them playing 3-5-2 and he has nimble feet and some pace about him and a good passer of the ball. Obviously its a step up to be competing with top six forwards but he is used to playing the same way as JOC and provides much needed height as well as a good goal scoring ratio as the attached clip highlights. The one he scored against us was a peach.

I hope we've all got some cash left! Loan to buy would be great (ideally with Bryan heading in the opposite direction), but I'd imagine all the teams we're dealing with are after a cash sale to get the reddies in at the moment.

Jeeeez!! Jake Cooper is 2nd in the top ratings for every Championship player this year. We have to go all out for this lad in January. Could give JOC a run for his money

Yeah the beauty of Jake Cooper is that he could comfortably cover for John Egan also.

He wouldn't be cheap mind. And if you were him, you might look at it as a move North to a club that is probably getting relegated & where you might end up as cover next season.

I think we'll struggle to replace JOC in January with a player of that sort of calibre.

Let’s be honest if we get relegated we’ll potentially loose 1 or both Egan and O’Connell

I don’t think cooper would end up as cover to anyone if he came like you day he could play two roles in the 3 and as much as I rate Egan he has one glaring weakness which is the long ball over the top when playing a high line he misjudges it catastrophically 3 or 4 times a year which normally leads to a 1 on 1. So cooper could potentially beat him out he’d have to be a damn good player to do it but that’s exactly what he looks like atm. It will come down to cost he’s going to cost 10 maybe even 15 million plus.

O'connell being injured for a full season will probably mean there won't be much interest in him. Egan will be 28/29? Again I wouldn't see many being that interested, he's comparable with Steve Cook at Bournemouth, good solid player but when they went down nobody was interested.
