Not as poor in value and wrong as the fookin council tax!
Aye
Maybe Chuck & his firm could ‘earn’ their 2 quid by emptying the bins
Or staffing libraries ( now called ‘warm banks)
Or looking after & protecting vulnerable folk
Or educating bairns - afore they get too stupid & end up posting on social media
Or organising elections - probably beyond their ‘ken’ mind
🤔

One of the most grotesque things about the 12 days of mourning over Elizabeth's death is the sickening insincerity of it.
Britain's ludicrous new Prime Minister Liz Truss described the deceased monarch as "one of the greatest leaders the world has known", while Labour's Silent Knight heaped praise on her, and pledged to honour her and keep her legacy alive.
These fawning statements clash horribly with what these two used to believe in.
As a Lib-Dem activist Liz Truss called for the abolition of the monarchy, and Keir Starmer openly joked that he was surprised that he was made Queen's Council after having regularly proposed scrapping the royal family.

This post touches on something I don't understand. As far as most of us could see the Queen didn't do much more than sign a few papers and open a few sports events - yet she's had all these glowing references from around the world. Canada, New Zealand, France, the Yanks are flying their flag at half mast across the US for 10 days - even Putin ffs!! She was clearly doing something quite special behind the scenes that was highly valued by world leaders.

When people say she was "great or special", not to my life she wasn't. Just a face on the bank notes and someone I had to learn a song about as a kid - but she clearly made a difference on a national and global level that leaders of all stripes valued. I have no idea what it was - but their reaction suggests that she really did do something "special".

Secondly - the missing games. Any game held before the funeral will be expected to have a two min silence and it only takes one person to wreck that tribute. You only need to read this thread, or the comparative thread on any clubs forum, and you'll soon realise that a two min silence at any ground ain't gonna go well. I can understand why the football authorities across all four nations have decided to keep their heads down, and perhaps come back afterwards without the silence.

Well, just to keep everyone happy, this is what happened at 3 pm Saturday September 10th at BDTBL.
The crowd observed a 1 minutes silence impeccably, followed by the first verse of God Save the King lead by Gary Sinclair.
The match is underway in glorious sunshine with the Blades defending the Kop, United started on the front foot and immediately created a early chance for Mcburnie which The Rotherham keeper did well turn round the post for a corner, from the Norwood corner a unmarked Egan headed just over the bar.
The first 15 minutes all belong to the Blades as the Rotherham defenders and midfield where run ragged , but apart from the early Mcburnie chance the Millers keeper had little to save.
On 18 minutes we saw great work from Doyle who beat two men only to be dragged down by a Rotherham defender just yards outside the box, this resulted in the first yellow card for the game for the Millers full back.
Norwood and Berge contrived a clever routine which resulted in a thunderous shot from Baldock which the keeper could only parry straight into the path of Mcburnie , who from 3 yards out buried it in the top corner giving the Blades stricker 4 from 4.
The capacity crowd by now where cheering the Blades on after wave after wave attacks where launched at Rotherham , if the Blades could get another it looked like been a long afternoon for the Millers.
Then on 38 minutes a strong mazey run from Illy down the right saw him burst into the box and again a Millers defender had no option but to take his feet from under him which gave the Ref no option but to point to the penalty spot and a straight red card for the Millers number 6.
Norwood took charge and placed the ball on the spot, which took bottle after missing his last couple, but not this time , bottom right corner sending the keeper the wrong way. 2 nil to the Blades .
Half time whistle came a which surely must have been a relief to the Rotherham management team , who now have to face 45 minutes of the high flying Blades.
Warne made his changes at half time bringing on 2 defenders in place of one of his strikers and a midfield player, looks like they are playing for damage limitation .
Second half started with the Millers dropping deep and getting everybody behind the ball and frustrating United with a much better defensive performance.
In return the Blades where moving the ball at pace across the pitch using both wings as the main points of attack but where hitting poor crosses into the box which the keeper was more than comfortable at collecting. The Millers by now where using the slowing down tactic and going down at the slightest touch.
On 70 minutes Heckingbottom made a double substitution bringing on Kedra and Brewster for Illy and Mcburnie.
Immediately Kedra with his tight ball control and tricky feet was causing the Millers defence trouble. it came on 76 minutes , he ghosted past the tiring Millers defenders and drilled the ball past a helpless keeper to make it 3- 0 Blades, the home crowd went wild. The players celebrating in front of the Kop.
By now the hard working 10 men Millers who had hardly mustered an attack all afternoon looked dejected and out on their feet and it was only going to get worse as the MoM Sander Berge on 84 minutes, glided yet again down the right and put a delicious ball across the 6 yard box for Rhian Brewster to slide in and make it 4 nil Blades, a score which was getting common at the Lane.
By now the Lane was rocking as a chant of “ We want 5 “ e choed around the stands with 6 minutes plus added time to go could the Blades deliver the fifth. Fourth official raises the board 8 minutes added time, this must seem a lifetime for the now weary and woeful looking Millers 10 men.
Into the added time and still the Blades where storming forward with some very intricate football but it was the very impressive Anal Ah...... who picked the ball up 30 yards out and unleashed a venomous shot which thundered into the back of the net via the back of a Millers defender. 5-0.
On 98 minutes the ref blew his whistle on yet another 5 star performance from the classy Blades who remain top of the Championship , teams will find it very difficult to move them.
Hope this fills a void for anyone missing their footy.

Berge played well but still felt he needed to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

And that header from Egan in the first few minutes !!!

I’m no fan of the Royal Family and a republican but would concede she was good to wheel out for difficult diplomatic situations.

She also did “work” quite hard at what she did. Not real work as we would know it but she had a fairly unrelenting schedule up until death which most people wouldn’t fancy.

That said everything she did was in service of “The Crown” I.e maintaining her family’s position in the world and enforcing the idea of a social heirachy where everybody knows their place. Any benefits which may have been conferred on the average person as a result were entirely incidental.

The idea that she was the “glue that held the country together”, as the BBC keep saying, baffles me. Anything achieved in this country has been done so by normal working men and women, the Royals just provide the window dressing and are rewarded handsomely for it.

I do sympathetise with people who are genuinely upset. I’ve been affected by the death’s of well known people I had never met (take Gary Speed as an example) but let’s have a bit of perspective.

Swansea and Preston games likely to happen then if National League games going ahead.

I'll have what you're having...

You just don't get it

He's not the only one. Nor, for that matter, has anyone who agrees with the cancellation been able to explain why it is a mark of respect, especially when the cricket and other sporting events weren't cancelled?

Why football? Is it because us loutish fans can't be trusted?

How are Celtic a stain on the UK?
Celtic and Liverpool have got the blame for the football cancellation even though they haven’t done anything. Would the teams have booed? Quite possibly, so would plenty of other teams I reckon, think some Blades would have booed going by this forum. Hearts booed and plenty of fuck the queen chants but no one is bothered about that, Wrexham FC had to turn off reply’s to their Queen tweets because of the abuse, no one’s bothered though. The pitch forks are only for Celtic.

Thanks. Just an assumption by Davalon built on existing prejudices in social media etc.

Well they’re not really British or even Scottish are they 😳😉

Unlike in Spain then.

The conservation group WWF in Spain has removed King Juan Carlos as its honorary president for going on an elephant hunting trip in Botswana.

But yes our royal family are a disgrace.

"In actual fact if you look at the way some of our PMs have acted they believe that are presidents anyway"

Would that be Tony Blair perchance ?
That is one of them.

That is most likely the reason.
Can’t have all those English scruffs not thanking the royals for all they have bestowed on us.

They're a football club in the UK which has a huge anti-UK theme amongst it's fanbase which the club pander to.

Please can you expand further on this anti-UK theme and how the club's hierarchy pander to the fans. Also what percentage of Celtic support is anti-UK?

I'm not sure if you're being serious considering it's pretty obvious to most football fans but assuming you are....

....Celtic aren't just pro Ireland, they've been pro IRA, and anti-monarchy because of Irish history.

I'm not a fan of Auld Firm shenanigans and that includes Rangers. However, Celtic (and I admit I'm generalising not knowing every Celtic fan) but you only have to look at the huge banners regularly on show, even this season, to see where their allegiances lie.

Look at what happens around Armistice there each year, read their forums and gauge the general reaction to the Queens death. Look at how the club reacted on social media compared to other clubs. Might be little things in the grand scheme for the latter, but it tells you their approach.

You may well be fine with their approach but many aren't from these shores, and more importantly them playing these weekend, especially at home, will have made the football bodies nervous.

You and others clearly don't have any time for the monarchy, which is fine. I'm no royalist myself and the Queen was the only one I really had any time for. Maybe William too.

The bottom line though is that many people, probably the majority, didn't want to see her death taken the piss out of this weekend. I'm pretty sure the reaction at Parkhead would have embarrassed a lot of people.
