What type of midfielder is Peck?

Why do people have this absurd need to try to pigeonhole all footballers into some kind of narrow box? Why can't we just say that he's a footballer and trust the coaching staff (ok second part is a stretch) to best use what he is good at?

He’s just not as dynamic as he was before. But if he’s going to play at a decent level for the rest of his career he needs to be improving.

He clearly has some talent but in the same way Vini never really contributed assists or goals in his time with us either.

I get the feeling he wants to be a bit further forward than he currently is, seem to remember some lovely forward passes last season, which if not assists, were assists of assists!

assists of assists. In Dutch football, they are called ‘fore-assists’ so it says in a weekend article about Robin Van Persie at Feynoord.

In the modern world of tracking stats it would make sense. I wonder what Sydie's stats are?

I wonder if there is also "aft-assists" which is when someone scores and someone else runs up and boots the ball back into the net!
 
It's very unfair to write him off as a Championship or possible Premier League player, he did enough last season to show he has a lot of virtues.

But he should still be benched now, for the same reason that Burrows has been.

It's pretty clear, and not just from his lack of goal contributions, that his best position is as a DM/ Numbet 6/ Pivote, call it what you will, but it's not how he's being used. If he's allowed to keep it simple; get it from a defender or the keeper and, to paraphrase Clough Senior "give it to someone who can play", then he has a good career ahead of him.
 
There was a moment against Derby in the 1st half, where he got the ball in the final 3rd towards the right, and he pivotted away and passed it straight back to the center back on the half way line.

These are the times where I want him to gamble either via dribbling or a forward pass to try and make something happen.

I think 50% of it is the coaching, about how we need to 'move the team from side to side' and 50% a confidence thing. He clearly has ability to pass and control the ball.
 
Needs dropping from the starting eleven, get Tom Davis in for now, if fit enough.
Don't get why he's undroppable has he's been poor all season, I guess it's either there is no other option or he's bloody good in training.
Still baffled how he ended up with the captain's arm band under Selles.

correct peck's head must be spinning he turns that many circles when he gets the ball in midfield and the main reason our build up play is so slow mind wilders fault he should have been dropped 5 games ago
 
He's the type that is a 6/10 midfielder when the team is winning, that's his ceiling on the evidence to date.
 
John Gannon the primary central midfielder in a side that won promotion and spent four seasons in the top flight. If he was available now, I would take him back any day. On Peck, I think he will end up in a defensive midfield role eventually, but that takes time, experience and his ability to read the game

Absolutely! I would have preffered to have sold Peck than O'Hare or Hamer! He would have brought in a lot more money and i really dont think he is that good! We have been really blessed in the cm positions since i started watching us! If OA didnt get his injury he would have got his chance and to give him his due he grabbed it with both hands and because of his age we all brought into his energy.

But he struggles to find a forward pass. He's not that athletic (I know I shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses), and he can't tackle Personally I think his tactical and reading of the game is poor.

He produces a 8/10 game every 6-7 games. Apart from this he is really a 4-5/10 every game! I can't remember a game where hes really took it by the scruff of the neck and carried the team and won it for us.

If he was that good, the likes of West ham/Crystal Palace/Fulham would have made an offer!

I don't disagree at all with your review of him as a player, I personally think the West Ham rumours were just paper talk as with their large outgoings they had cash to spend and with him being a London lad, it was either West Ham or Brentford. But on the flip side, they could have easily been scouting our 1st set of fixtures, especially West Ham knowing he is going to be in the same league as them, is it worth bidding now or when another year of his deal has being wound down. Depending on the type of season he has this season, this is the one to make it, if he chooses too. I imagine his agent will try and get us to give him improved terms next summer or we might find a lower half/promoted team come in with a bid.
 
He was very good last night. He'll do better alongside someone like Jairo or Phillips that gives him a bit more freedom to get up the pitch.
 
This is what i love about football is the difference in opinions as I think he has hit his ceiling and won't get any better!
 
I think his ceiling was hit a good while ago now and he's not showing any sign of recovering that form. He is a Wilder favourite, probably the only thing keeping him in the starting 11 at this moment in time
