Hopefully the last summary was insightful! I listened to the pre-match press conference and summarised the key points with our AI overlords help:

Reflection on the Last Game

Selles expressed his disappointment, focusing more on the performance than the result itself. He identified a "lack of competitiveness in some of the moments" as a key concern. He acknowledged the number of unforced errors but framed them as part of a necessary learning process, stating, "I don't know if the word is concerned. I think those things happen." He believes these challenging matches are valuable experiences, concluding, "those games should make us better." A major positive from the game was Gustavo Hamer's goal, which Selles described as "a moment of brilliance" and a "genius moment."

Team News and Player Updates

  • Player Performances: Selles backed Dovydas Sasnauskas despite his errors, emphasizing that mistakes are part of development and that the young player needs support. He also showed understanding towards captain Jack Robinson's emotional reaction during the game, noting, "I think sometimes it's difficult also to to contain your emotions in in that moment."
  • New Players: He was pleased with the debut of Djibril Soumaré, describing him as an "athletic" player who can "cover the pitch."
  • Injuries: There are no new injury concerns. Selles confirmed that "everyone should be ready to go" besides the previously known absentees.

Transfer Situation: Incomings and Outgoings

This was a significant topic, with Selles expressing clear frustration.
  • Process and Delays: He was blunt about the club's recruitment efforts, stating, "our process has not been good enough. That is I think... obvious." He confirmed that following departures, the team needs five new players.
  • Immediate Prospects: Selles delivered the news that no new players will arrive before the weekend's deadline, saying, "There is not going to be any update for the weekend."
  • Recruitment Needs: He stressed the need for proven players, stating it is "absolutely" vital they are "Championship ready." The goal is to "replace that experience in the level with experience in the level."
  • Reasons for Delays: He confirmed that the lack of available Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) spots for overseas players is "a little part of it."

Outlook on the Next Game

Looking ahead to the match against Swansea City, Selles is preparing for a tough encounter. He expects "a very difficult match" against a team he described as "ultra-competitive, that never give up." The importance of a victory was not lost on him, as he stated the team will "fight with everything we have just to get that first win of the season."

Manager's Philosophy and Approach

Throughout the press conference, Selles spoke about his approach to the current challenges.

  • Expectations and Reality: He acknowledged the club's high expectations but noted that in football, "if you want to develop something in the long term, you need to win football matches now."
  • Personal Accountability: When asked if he felt let down by the transfer situation, he turned the focus on himself, saying, "I just feel that I have a task to do," and refused to make excuses that "he needs to be brilliant, and the team needs to be brilliant".
  • Tactical Flexibility: He confirmed that given the current squad, tactical adjustments are required. "Absolutely, we need to adjust for sure," he said, adding that his job is to give the players clear instructions to help them perform.
Thanks for taking on the mantle

Yes, Bettis always strikes me as a yes man. Willing to go along with anything the owners say in order to keep looking good. Yes I will sell Anel and Souza. We have all worked with yes man and it always is these people who are the last to be ousted, in reality they are the least effective team members.

I am sticking with my stance that Wilder was ousted because he disagreed with the USA owners (they hate that!) where as a good leader will listen to someone with vast experience. Selles is now having to shout up because the yes men at the club haven't helped his cause.
I reckon old Chris will be quite glad he got the bullet

The fact that we have taken up the full allocation of foreign players GBE’s, in the pursuit of an AI project, shows an alarming level of stupidity.
It’s almost like the owners have got all giddy about introducing the data driven recruitment that they’ve allowed themselves to be so fixated on the future, that they have totally overlooked the here and now.
Whatever the reasoning behind it, or who’s to blame, it does not bode well for the future. The huge incompetence of our whole summer transfer window business, by a supposedly intelligent and savvy group of successful entrepreneurs, is breathtaking.
Bettis, has to take responsibility too, he doesn’t have the ‘inexperience’ excuse and should have never allowed this situation to occur, without at least making his feelings known.
Bettis is one of our biggest problems

Some of that might be true, and yes Bettis is a yes man in as much as he has to do what the owners tell him to do, He doesn't ever sell players, just does the negotiations the owners (and sometimes manager sell players they don't want but evering back tracks to the owners
Whilst this is true he can offer his opinions and advice and if he were to do this with confidence and authority surely the owners would listen. The fact is he either doesn’t do this or he has no clue whatsoever so the owners do not take notice

Whilst Wilder was around his strong personality carried the day despite the wavering Bettis

He would only offer his opinion on corporate and financial matters - it footballing matters, there are other people in the club (and on here 😂) that are better qualified to offer opinion's on footballing matters, people also forget that we (sufc) have a financial director, which never gets mentioned because she's not high profile!
