Injuries

Anyone got tabs on potential return dates for those not with a red X marked on their doors?
Hemingway’s piece today addressed all of the injured players. It read as if the 2 week break will make no difference and none of the injured will be back for Man U, though Baldock, Osborn and Osula will be close.

Davies and Egan are said to be months away, and Lowe’s layoff is going to be a long one. RND not coming back any time soon (my money’s on never).

The news re Jebbison and Coulibaly was vague, though I was told we likely won’t see Jebbison in 2023.

Basham is of course out for the season.

I think realistically we will see Baldock, Osula and Osborn in a few weeks, but none of the others this calendar year.

Very naive of me.

I thought when there was some comparisons around Rodwell etc I just assumed he a one year deal and that if he does well we could extend.

This is arguably our worst but of business.
In the BBC article Hecky said he brings good physicality 🤣.

Not much difference with other clubs when you look at the stats.
The modern game exerts pressures on players beyond those in the past and knees and hamstrings take the brunt. Add in normal contact injuries like Basham and most clubs will have a large part of their squads missing at any one time in the season.

Okay, whatever you say Tom.

We agree to differ unless we are looking at two different versions of stats.

Yes there is.

We were near the top of the Championship injury table all last season, and it's the same story in the PL.

The table I linked hasn't been updated yet to include our latest three injuries. That will put us joint top - again.

We've potentially got the smallest/weakest squad in the league and 30-50% of it is out injured at any one time. As that injury table shows, it's not normal.

No idea who Tom is, but my info came direct from a physio with a professional team and very recent article in the press
Just looking at our staff list and comparing it to other smaller but more ambitious and better run clubs (Ipswich/Luton etc). Looks like we concentrate on 'strength and fitness' maybe at the expense of 'sport science' on the coaching side, although that might just be differences in job titles. Others have more keeper coaches. We seem to have a lot of physios.
One thing you do notice is the lack of any directorial oversight by named staff of footballing and coaching which is staggering. Quite a lot of other clubs at championship have 2-3 people in those DoF style roles. Properly run elite clubs will have teams of staff at that level. Presume this is why the long injury list is not being questioned or the manager/staff not performing well (they have no proper line management or support from senior staff).
We also look exceptionally light on scouts and fairly light on analysis.
We have about a third of the football staff of Leicester City. The only other similarish club with less staff than us is Preston, maybe Toytown.
In summary there is a glaring lack of investment in the direction of the football/coaching and staff expertise.
It looks an overly lean way to run an 'elite' football club with a £80M playing staff, penny wise, pound foolish - Thanks Prince.

Last week’s stats indicated that there were officially 112 injured players in PL squads, let alone others that were kept quiet. United were not at the top of that list.
As to the reason for injuries then I am no expert, but just repeating what I have been told but someone who probably does know.
