Injuries

Agreed, but I don’t think it’s the cost of doing the analysis that’s the issue. It’s the cost of doing something about it - Nicky Janskys’ contact’s description of success on this challenge for a Premier League team included a head count of 100 people...can you see that at Shirecliffe? 😂
In other words, if the cost of dealing with it meant not buying one or two players each season which should we do?

I'm sure I've seen on twitter that mcburnie and club doctor on train to London this afternoon, is it possible 🤔

That’s the question, and it’s a tough choice.
Personally, if we can gain confidence that investment in specific areas would help, then I would do it, at a cost of new player recruitment. Based on what Heckingbottom said in his interview with the Examiner, I think he would do the same. We cannot carry on with such a drag on our on-field resources. We are losing as many players to injury as we are recruiting.

I’ve long been of the opinion that much of our problem has been our hand to mouth existence in terms of fielding a best quality starting eleven. We push existing players to the limit because we have no alternatives of equivalent quality, and introduce new recruits, who have no Premier League experience, too quickly into the toughest of physical environments even when we know that they are not properly match fit ( Slimane, Souza, Davies, etc). Contrast this with what your contact was saying in terms of the step up to the Premier League, even for players that start that journey ‘ fully fit’. It’s no wonder we run into problems with muscular injuries, on top of which we’ve had some freakish events.

Spending money on back room staff and facilities has to be the way to go IF we can be confident that it will yield improvement. It won’t be a staff of 100, but if we can muster sufficient critical mass to effect change, then we need to do it. This might well be at the cost of future recruitment, but at the moment our recruitment feels like sending folk to the front line to replace the fallen, rather than incremental gain.

I’m pleased that we’ve triggered an independent review of what we can change , and I hope that Hecky gets the opportunity to act on it.

(Not like it matters)

Im starting to suspect that the club just uses the NHS to save in costs and Bettis is having a problem trying to get through on the phone to book an appointment for each of them. He's now been on hold for 18 months.

Looking like Brewdog / Archer going forward next few games.

The injuries to Anel and Egan had PH rethink the back line, let’s hope this prompts a change and approach to utilise their strengths.

Enda Stevens doing ok at Stoke,he's captain and has played 7 games out of 14 he was missing for 6 weeks due to a calf injury he picked up play for Ireland.

His manager says he is fine and capable doing Sat to Sat games its when he has to do midweek games he gets the injury .

Should have kept him,the Prem fixtures would have suited his body.

Not a chance. Bloke fell off a cliff several seasons ago and hasnt ever looked like regaining his form. On his day he were quality. He’d get absolutely ruined in the premier league.

Republic still think he has it to play against elite european players.
Aye, wilder did too. Look what happened there. He was terrorised by premier league opposition, never fit, always one second behind tactically and ran like he were in custard. Legendary on his day for us, those are sadly behind him imo.

How many games did he play last 3 seasons for us? How many were good games?

He's done just like Basham, Norwood and Fleck.

You dont get the point i am making the thread is about "injuries".........he moved away from us and suddenly he is playing regularly bar for the injury picked up while playing for Ireland.

But still picking up injuries every season, bet he gets injured again before 2024.

I didn't go into reading the article with an agenda of "Ooo, let's see what I can find to criticise Hecky." I read like it like I would any other article. It's just that as I read that bit alarm bells went off and that bit stood out to me. If you read an article by dissecting it with the intention of looking for something to suit your agenda then

A) You're mental
B) You need a hobby
Or C) You are looking for confirmation bias?
On the same subject, there are no independent studies regarding Heckinbottom’s previous management of clubs and their injury record, so does that make the clubs concerned foolish, or reaching for confirmation bias too?

In truth, until the current study, any evidence is anecdotal, or inconclusive!

What I get from this is that Enda Stevens has missed half of Stoke’s games due to injury, which is not remotely surprising and the reason why we didn’t renew his deal.

You clearly don’t read my posts. I’ve been complaining about that decision since those contracts were signed.
As I have already posted, these are players that Heckinbottom wanted as back up. Occasional bench replacements for one off injuries and an increase in suspensions due to yellow/red cards.

I’m sure he did not envisage such players being required full time. How prescient of him?

Without the back up of fading talent, more academy players would need to be blooded. Maybe he is hoping for another Ndiaye scenario?
