Not had chance to get on here since the match on Sunday, and even though we lost, I wasn’t completely disheartened

I thought we played really well and matched Wolves for long periods of the game. It was only when they brought on Trippier and Raul Jiminez, and we brought on Jordan Ayew that the different squad strength came in to play.

I really enjoyed us switching tactically to 3 at the back with 2 wing backs and playing more compactly with a low block, I think it suits Wilder, suits United and suits the squad we have at the minute.

I also think it is less demanding on the players which in turn will help us avoid injuries. We aren’t a fit enough team to press higher up the pitch and we get a lot more stretched and vulnerable to teams playing on the break

It also helps us out going forward as opponents are more likely to push players further up the pitch, which in turn creates more space for us to exploit in translation, especially with two fast, athletic wing backs

This is pretty much the style we played under Wilder Mk1, and to great success, and I think it suits us as a team and as a club too.

I don’t think we are going to be pushing for promotion this season. We sold our best three players and haven’t adequately replaced them, so it’s important we get the players we do have in a system that works, can get results and builds a platform to take forward

I also think so far this season Tanganga and McGuinness haven’t looked great in a 2 but look a lot more comfortable in a 3, looking back I remember Basham as centre half in a 2 at various points in League One and he was a completely different player in a 3, and I think it will really bring out the best in Tanganga and McGuinness and Kitching looks well suited to the LCB role.

Chris Wilder is a tough point in his managerial career, boardroom shenanigans have hampered him, we didn’t look great in the 24/25 season with the 4–2-3-1 formation and variations that even though we accumulated 90 points and I think keeping the current formation really is his best option
